  1. Nice photos Nev. This is the Ffestiniog Mountain Railway - we were there last month :)
  2. Hi Some Toshiba machines still have a (serial ) RS232 connection. Take a look here: http://www.ebuyer.com/341777-toshiba-tecra-a11-1hp-laptop-ptse0e-0mj052en If you want more options then Nev's idea should not be discounted.
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS I think we can discount the Video Card if you have had it tested. Do you have a spare PSU to try ? Sometimes they are "buggy" and can cause similar problems.
  4. Is there a possibility that the connections to this switch are being shorted out ? I think your best course of action would be to go inside and check the switch - if any part of the joining wires is touching any other part of the circuit it will short the switch. If you have a meter check both sides of the switch for a voltage. In the off position there will be a voltage on one side only. In the on position there will be the same voltage on both sides of the switch. Is this the case ?
  5. If it is still dropping the connection the only other thing that I can think of is to change the channel ( frequency ) that the router broadcasts on. There may be something interfering with the present frequency. Click on the Internet Browser At the address bar at the top ( where http//www. etc is ) highlight this and type ........192.168.1.1 ............ENTER You should be taken to the Router Access Screen. This will ask for a login name and password. If you have not set these then the standard ones are usually Admin for both. Once into the router software have a look around for the page that allows you to change the channel. This is normally a number between 1 and 13 Channels 1 - 6 - 11 are commonly used. Select a different channel then save the changes. Try the connection again.
  6. Disconnect EVERY phone connection other than the router. Phones / answerphone / Sky etc etc. Make sure that the router has a filter inline before the phone-point. Try the connection again. ( I had a similar problem once and it was the Sky connection causing the dropping of the internet )
  7. If you mean the mouse pad - you can always plug in a USB mouse and use that. You said in the other thread that the wireless is switched on. There is a physical switch on most laptops ( not Fn + F8 ) Does this give an LED indication that it is on ?
  8. Please confirm that you pinged 192.168.1.1 and 127.0.0.1 with no problems. Thanks.
  9. Please answer all of the following: Start > type in ....devmgmt.msc .....ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters What is listed ? Are there any yelow exclamation marks or red Xs ? ============ Start > type in ....cmd then right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen Click on "Run as Administrator" At the prompt type in .......ping 127.0.0.1 .......ENTER ( space after ping ) You should get 4 packets sent / received and no losses If you do ..... Then type ping 192.168.1.1 ......ENTER Again you should get 4 packets sent and no losses. =============== Try the above ( ping ) when the connection is down too and let me know the results of both :)
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS I assume that you have a router ( hence the filter replacements ) ? What is the make and model number please ? I suspect that this may be a router problem - I had a similar problem a while back and a replacement router fixed the continual dropped connection. Are you connected wirelessly with both machines ? Does it drop the connection if you connect direct to the router by ethernet cable ?
  11. I read your thread on the other forum. This guy wasn't very helpful at all !! If you own the notebook and want to pull it apart - then nobody can stop you :) Is the wireless device showing in Device Manager? Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters. What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  12. Hi and welcome to ExTS Which laptop ( make and model ) do you have ?
  13. Hi and welcome to ExTS This sounds like it could be a memory issue. Take the RAM out - give the contacts a clean with a pencil eraser and put just one module back. Try the machine again If you get the same problem then swap the RAM for another module. If this is OK add the remaining module ( assuming 3 x 2GB ) If it is a module gone bad this process will identify it.
  14. One of our Security Experts should pick this up soon - please be patient :)
  15. I asked this earlier - and apparently it is. I assume that the trial period is over ? Download Open Office and see if you can open the template with that. This is free. http://download.openoffice.fm/free/?pk=10305
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS Download MBAM from here: ( click on Products - you want the free version ) http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro You may get redirected to a mirror site - this is OK. Run it and on completion it will produce a log. Copy this and post it with your next reply. If you cannot run MBAM in normal mode try running it in Safe Mode. Switch on and constantly tap F8 about once per second. Select S-M from the list. Starbuck or Etavares will pick this one up.
  17. Hi yayowulf and welcome to ExTS Good to hear that you found the thread useful :)
  18. Hi Try this: Right click on the document > Properties > Advanced If "File is Ready for Archiving" is checked .....uncheck it. If "Allow this document to have file indexed in addition to ....." is there check this. I assume that your version of 2010 is not a trial version and is a full installation ?
  19. Hi RachieA If you right click on the file > Properties ...........is "Read Only" checked ? Word 2010 is totally compatible with 2007 and you should be able to edit it. Word 2010 default is to save as .docx extension which some of your customers may not be able to read if they have Word 2007 or earlier. You can, however, alter this in Save As to Word97 - 2003 which is .doc extension.
  20. take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283807
  21. Please wait for Starbuck to advise before you do anything more. There is a piece of malware linked to ipconfig.exe that needs investigating further.
  22. Hi Martin Some desktops use non-standard PSUs. It may be prudent to take yours out first and take it with you. If the Wattage is more on the new one this doesn't matter and if it is a little less - you would probably get away with this too :)
  23. Good to hear that you were able to fix it yourself. Thanks for the feedback :)
  24. You can have them tested. Try phoning a local tech and ask about cost etc. As you suggest though - they are cheap enough and a spare is always useful.
