  1. rep20 - planetocean7 posted the link as an example. They have a new build ( so presumably no dust ) and it is a desktop. ================= planetocean7 Sorry for the late reply - I missed this one ! That screen ( YouTube ) looks like a problem with the Video. As you are using on-board video this utilises the RAM too. Try taking one of the 4GB modules out ( it will run fine on the other ) If you get the same problem - swap the modules over and run on the other one. If the problem is not re-produced then the RAM module that is out at that time is causing the problem. If it proves NOT to be the RAM then when your new Video Card arrives this will confirm if it is the on-board video or not. If it is the on-board video that is the problem you need to return the m/board for a replacement.
  2. You could always zip the file. Browse to find the file you wish to compress Right click on the file Select "Send To" from the menu which appears Select Compressed (zipped) Folder from the list of options This will create a compressed folder with the same name as your file and in the same location. The folder will contain your compressed file. You should then be able to attach the zipped file to your email.
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS The only sure way is to replace like with like. In other words - another E5500. An email to Dell Support may give you other alternatives.
  4. The drivers are here: http://support.gateway.com/us/en/emac/product/default.aspx?tab=1&modelId=1503 The problem with XP ( unlike Vista and Win7 ) is that the drivers are not embedded in the software and you have to install them separately after installing the OS. Let us know how you get on :)
  5. So ...... This is not your computer. You have restricted use of it and you want us to help you deceive the real owner ( parents ? ) If this is NOT your machine we are not prepared to assist any further - sorry.
  6. Hi This will be 5v DC Not aware that the power is dropped - but then again ...............I don't have an encrypted drive :) Seriously - I cannot see any reason why the power to the USB ports would drop and then re-establish itself. It isn't logical. I would be interested to see if the external power source does the job.
  7. Your link is what I visualised. How are you going to power it? Just a thought ............ You could take the hard drive out of a laptop ( so no confusion re. C:\ ) and try using the USB port to maintain the 5v.
  8. What have you ordered ? Can you provide a link ?
  9. You said this earlier .... This should have installed the video drivers needed to give you more options. 2 and 16 is the default - ie. no drivers installed. Do you have a video card or is it on-board ( i.e. a chip on the motherboard ) ? If you run AIDA it will tell you.
  10. We aim to please :)
  11. Sorry about the Everest link. I have just tried the AIDA64 ( trial for 30 days ) It does a similar job to Everest. Just be aware - Make sure you uncheck the AVG Toolbar option ( you don't want that ! ) Read the boxes as they appear. All you want is the software - nothing else. AIDA32 would do just as well.
  12. Hi Nev I take your point re PE. and it is worth a try. davevont, If you read through Nev's suggestion re. the PE option then try using the PE disk and let us know the result.
  13. Try this: http://everest-home-edition.software.informer.com/ You could install the games now if you wish :)
  14. Hi Can you confirm that "Boot from USB Device / HDD" is an option. Try taking the CMOS battery out - leave for 1 minute and replace. This will re-set the BIOS to defaults. If you have altered the Boot Order you will probably have to go back and change it again. Do you key in the password before it "Logs off" ? I assume at this point you are trying to boot up from the external drive itself ? EDIT Please Note: If you read my comment re. using another laptop for the 5v connection please ignore this. It seemed logical at the time - but effectively you would be linked to 2 systems - both with a C:/ drive.
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS :)
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS We are not a gaming forum so advice may be limited. Take a look here and see what this says about your system and that specific game: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/intro.aspx
  17. Hi, Take a look here: http://www.squidoo.com/best-low-profile-video-graphics-cards-for-gaming-2011-pci-express 220 Watts will probably not be suitable for most of these. No prices are given so you will need to Google the cards for price and specs.
  18. The card is not linked to Intel or AMD processors. As long as the motherboard has a PCIe x 16 slot it will function. The card specs: http://www.amd.com/uk/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7750/Pages/radeon-7750.aspx#2 As I have already stated - I am not a gamer. The 7750 is a far better choice that what you had originally. High end games would probably run better on the other card - but you get what you pay for and £70 for a gaming Video Card is really at the bottom end.
  19. Yes - this is the sound card. It is being identified as a PCI card - in other words an addition to the motherboard. If you can find out ( take the side panel off ) what it is I may be able to locate older drivers for it. Your problem, as stated before, is that you have moved backwards with your OS so drivers are not readily available.
  20. Hi again just to add a bit of confusion :) http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=motherboards&x=0&y=0 http://www.dabs.com/ Your choice of Video Card will do nothing for your gaming (I am not a gamer by the way) I think you will find some games jerky. CPU Basically the choice is yours. There is a constant debate re AMD and Intel but the thing that will decide if games run better is the Video Card. If you can afford it ............ AMD Radeon 6870 ( about £180 ) Needs 500Watt min PSU AMD Radeon 7750 ( about £70 ) Needs 400 Watts min PSU These would be be a better bet.
  21. I only guessed at the PSU wattage - you will need to let me know what this is :)
  22. I would be inclined to remove the old drivers first. You should be able to do this from Add / Remove
  23. Hi, I have been away for a few day and have not been able to get internet access readily. I am unsure if your system has an internal wireless adapter ( I doubt it ) so you will need the LAN driver although installing both would do no harm. The LAN driver - if successful - will allow you to connect to the router with a cable. Did you have a wireless connection previously ?
  24. Hi and welcome to ExTS The specs for your machine suggest that your motherboard is a microATX ( small form factor ) This will limit the choice of Video Card. from the Acer Site: PCI Express® 2.0 x16 graphics card support (low-profile) It looks as if you will need to select a low profile ( smaller build ) Video Card. If you are upgrading the Video Card ( depending on your choice ) you may well need to upgrade the PSU also in order to cope with the new power requirements. I suspect that, at the moment, you will have something like 300Watts. 32 bit systems only support up to 4GB RAM of which about 3.5 GB is used by the system. If this system wasn't built for gaming generally there is little you can do to bring it up to gaming spec.
