  1. The Novatech GeForce 210 will cope well with every day graphics requirements. It is not suitable for gaming. If you want a card that will support gaming you are going to have to multiply the price by at least 5x :) See here for further info: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-121-MS
  2. Hi, take a look here: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireL3600/AspireL3600sp2.shtml It suggests 500GB ( not sure if this is a m/board max or the max that they will fit with this model ) [TABLE=width: 99%] [TR] [TD]Storage[/TD] [TD]Slot-load optical drive options: DVD Dual, DVD SuperMulti (varies by model) up to 500GB Hard Disk Drive SATA (varies by model) 3 in 1 Card Reader (selected models)[/TD] [/TR] [/TABLE] What you could do is make an image of the drive. ( I can provide a link if necessary ) You can then transfer the image to your new HDD - this will then transfer exactly what is on your present drive to the new one. No need to reinstall software etc. and all of your files and folders will be as they are at the moment.
  3. I have already given you a partial explanation for this. 32 bit systems are limited to the amount of RAM that they can utilise. This is 4GB. The system will only use about 3.5 GB. 64 bit systems transmit data faster. They can also make use of much more RAM - typically 32 GB. The fact that it is 64 bit compatible means that you could, if you wanted to, put a 64 bit OS on your hard drive and the motherboard and Processor would cope.
  4. We have had this before with USB devices. ( Work on one system but not another ) Have you tried all of the USB ports on the problem machine ? It could be the 5v side of the PSU that is not supplying enough power to run the drive. Things like memory sticks require very little power but a DVD drive would require more. It could be a lack of current on the USB ports that explains why it works on one but not the other system. Do you have an external hard drive ( or can you borrow one ) ? Plug this into your system. If this doesn't work as well it is a power issue with the USB ports. Do the USB ports work with other devices ( memory stick for instance ) ?
  5. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have removed the attempt at BBCode and links from your post as it looked untidy and difficult to read. We are not a gaming forum and I would not like to guess at what your system will be capable of when gaming. I note that the m/board is a micro-ATX. If the case is small too you may ( I stress may ) get overheating due to poor airflow when playing games. I assume that you intend to install a 64 bit OS - otherwise your 8GB RAM is wasted. ( 4GB limit on 32 bit systems ) There doesn't seem to be an option for Crossfire with that m/board. As I say - I am not a gamer so this is really general observations.
  6. It really depends on what you want to do ? By the way - you didn't post back here: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/13467-Weak-wireless-signal?p=87258#post87258
  7. You have bought this as "used" from a dealer on EBay. For £179 you do seem to have value for money - provided everything is as it should be when you start using it. I have already explained where I see the limitations - but for this price you cannot expect to have a high-end gaming machine. What you have bought is a decent general purpose machine that will be capable of playing some games. If you got it to play the games that you listed - it should be capable of that.
  8. I would be interested to hear how it goes :)
  9. You must be aware that the Win8 version that you have is a BETA version and, as such, may not run particularly smoothly. It should, however, install. Please be aware that if you do manage to install it the only way back to Win7 is to use the DVD. If there was a recovery partition installing Win8 BETA will delete this. The release date for the commercial version of Win 8 is suggested as October this year. Personally, I wouldn't use a BETA version of any Operating System on my main machine. How old is your machine? I suspect that it may not be Win8 compatible ..............could this be a possibility ?
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS This could be a number of things - but it does sound like hardware to me. Switch off at the wall but leave the plug in. This maintains the earth connection to the motherboard. Try taking the RAM out. Switch on with the RAM out of the system. You should get POST beeps - if you do this is good :) If you do get beeps then put just one RAM module back and try booting again. If the problem returns - swap the RAM over. Don't forget to switch off at the wall if you are going inside the case again. Let me know the results in a little detail please.
  11. Wanting help with drivers is one thing - shouting at a forum admin is another !! Installing illegal operating systems is something that we explained to you - as pleasantly as possible - was something we were not prepared to assist with. Your first post implied that we had somehow slighted you. Not so. However if you wish to remain on these forums you will reply respectfully ( as we do ) otherwise I am afraid we will part company.
  12. Your last thread was closed because you were asking for advice on an illegal installation.
  13. I have answered this as best I can. I gave you links to system specs to the games you said you played. I suggested options for upgrading. I suggested limitations that you may experience. I don't know what else to add ?????? I will say this - If you are only paying £179 for a "gaming" machine you cannot expect to play high end games. This is only a basic system - it is not designed for gaming. If you want a gaming machine you are going to have to at least triple your outlay.
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have looked on the P-B site and manuals for keyboards are not an option. What are you having problems with ?
  15. Thanks for that information GRANDAD ( congratulations on 100 posts :) ) Vuescan is here: http://www.hamrick.com/ It looks as if you will get a "nag screen" until you pay for it - but if it works it is certainly cheaper than a new scanner.
  16. Please do not post the same question twice. You will not get answered any quicker. I have not deleted this as it has a little more information than your other post ( which I replied to ). This thread, however, is locked. Other thread is here: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/13544-Is-my-computer-good-enough-for-gaming
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS We are not a gaming forum so advice may be a little limited :) System Specs for "The Hunter" http://www.thehunterwiki.com/index.php?title=System_Requirements System Specs "APB Reloaded" http://www.apbrwiki.com/wiki/System_Requirements Perfect World http://wiki.ggftw.com/perfectworld/Perfect_World:Requirements Presumably this is a second-hand machine ( XP ? ) If you are upgrading in the future you may want to consider another Video Card. If you do - then there is every possibility that you will need to upgrade the PSU too. 32 bit systems have a 4GB RAM max. You would need to check what you have before spending on more RAM. Newer games require Direct-X 10 / 11 XP is limited to Direct-X 9 Depending on the Socket Type on your motherboard you may be limited to what you can upgrade the CPU to.
  18. Hi osprey, many thanks for the update. Good to hear that you were able to solve your own problem :)
  19. Hi and welcome to ExTS When you click on Is your Rosewill showing in the list? If so - what is with it and which IRQ number. Just because there is a long list of "Conflicts / Sharing " most, if not all, of them will be OK as it is usual to share IRQs
  20. It is likely that your "internal" DVD Drive has died - they don't last forever. Can you try the USB one in another computer to see if that actually does work ?
  21. Hi Try this link click here
  22. If you have the caddy - put the drive in and attach to USB port. The drive should be recognised as such. Start ........type in .....diskmgmt.msc ...........ENTER Your drive should show up here. You should be able to right click on the drive and select format. I would format it NTFS.
  23. Hi Wirelessly ...... Start > Run ............type in ....cmd ......ENTER At the prompt type ......ping 127.0.0.1 It should send and receive 4 packets ...............does it ? What is the make and model number of your router please ?
  24. Graphics intensive = playing games for instance.
