  1. Not that I am aware of. The motherboard architecture is designed for the 775 socket configuration. The only CPUs that will be compatible will need to be Socket 775 I found the following: Socket type: 775 Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades: Core 2 Duo E6x00 Core 2 Duo E4x00 Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core Pentium D 8xx Dual Core Pentium 4 6x1 series Celeron D 3xx series see here
  2. Hi Kate and welcome to ExTS I have deleted your other post - nothing gained in duplicating it :) Download MBAM from here: ( Click on Products > you want the free version ) http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_pro You may get re-directed to a mirror site - don't worry about this it is a security thing. Install > Update > Run it. A log will be created - copy this entirely and post it here. If there is anything there that needs attention one of our security experts will advise you further. Just a note: Spybot is a bit dated - in future I suggest you use MBAM for your regular scans.
  3. Good thinking Nev. The 5v side of the PSU may well be the underlying problem.
  4. Hi, and welcome to ExTS I deleted your other post :) Is this your machine? click here If so - the socket configuration is 775. The Intel - Core i5-2500 has an LGA1155 socket. The two are not compatible.
  5. I think we have located your problem. The USB ports are providing some power - but obviously not the 500mA that they should be. This may be so - but they will not have the same high current requirement that an external drive needs. Again pointing to lack of power from the USB port. Possibly. It is possible that the voltage is correct ( 5v ) but the output current is not enough. This should be 500mA. If both of these are correct the port should supply 2.5 Watts - obviously it isn't. You could take a look at something like this: click here This is a USB expansion card. It plugs into a PCIe slot on your motherboard ( assuming you have PCIe slots ....modern boards do ) It would give you 2 USB slots that are independent of the rest. The advantage of this adapter is it will provide you with USB 3.0 speed if you plug in a molex power connector from the PSU. It will be positioned at the back of your machine. You can get a USB extension cable quite cheaply if you wish.
  6. Hi ronald Can you let us know what you have listed here please? Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc .......ENTER Click the + next to "Display Adapters" What is listed ? Vr5fx please continue with your train of thought.
  7. Hi Wizard Welcome to ExTS Is this specifically for PC repair or is it part of a general IT course ? That's what we are here for - if you are able please jump in :)
  8. Aldaz108 Please stay with the original topic. If you ask a range of different questions in the same thread it gets confusing. Feel free to ask other questions but keep it to one question - one thread ( unless they are related of course :) )
  9. I am out of suggestions. The drive works on other machines. You have tried other cables. You have tried a cable with 2 USB connections. This is what concerns me. Just because there are 2 connections this does not mean that there will be 1 Amp ( 2 x 500mA ) flowing through the drive. It will draw what current it needs. You say, however, that with this set-up the drive makes extremely loud noises. This is not normal. It does sound like there could be a problem with the enclosure - but the fact that it functions on other systems is puzzling. I suggest that you contact Seagate direct and ask them if they have any suggestions.
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS The important factors are: 1. Does your motherboard support PCIe x 16 cards. Looking at the specs of your old card - this is PCIe x 16 2. Will your Power Supply Unit cope with the increased load it is going to be asked to supply. The System Specs for your new card suggest 400Watt minimum PSU. I suspect that your present PSU is 300 - 350 Watt so you need to check this to see if it needs up-grading. The Specs also suggests a minimum of 1GB RAM - you have this. The new card is also DirectX® 11 compatible. If you are still using version 10 then it may be worth upgrading this too. So - Yes it is compatible but check the PSU. NOTE: You don't say which HP machine you have. If you have a standard ATX case then there is no problem. Problems do arise if the case is designed for the smaller form factor motherboards.
  11. Spec sheet here: click here This is from the spec sheet for your RAM Kingston’s KHX1333C7AD3K2/4G is a kit of two 256M x 64-bit (2GB) DDR3-1333MHz CL7 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) memory modules, based on sixteen 128M x 8-bit DDR3 FBGA components per module. Total kit capacity is 4GB. Each module has been tested to run at DDR3-1333MHz at a low latency timing of 7-7-7-20 at 1.65V. The SPDs are programmed to JEDEC standard latency DDR3-1333MHz timing of 9-9-9 at 1.5V. This 240-pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers and requires +1.5V. The JEDEC standard electrical and mechanical specifications are as follows:
  12. I did a quick search for PCI hdmi video card click here There must be others out there.
  13. Not necessarily - but it certainly could be. I would be inclined to take the drive out of the enclosure and put it in a different one. See here This would eliminate the enclosure as the problem. Seagate have an external drive troubleshooter. click here
  14. This is unfortunate - and frustrating for you. I don't know what more I can say.
  15. Hi, I suspect it may be the quality of the 3D. I am not a fan of 3D so have only seen small bits - but what I have seen is as you describe. Some effects are far better than others and this does vary throughout a film. This is the problem of everybody being different; we all see, hear, taste etc things differently. You are probably getting the benefits of the better 3D effects but the others you are seeing "normally" which is an individual thing. As I said before, a quick chat with your optician will explain things far better than I can.
  16. Hi, Sorry for missing your last post. Wltcore.dll is linked with Windows Live Toolbar Does Windows Live Toolbar show in Control Panel or Control Panel > Add / Remove From Add / Remove ............which version of IE are you using?
  17. From what I have read ........... The external Seagate drive has an Initio logic board. I have also read many posts that suggest that it is a power issue - where the USB port is not supplying enough power to the drive. If you are getting abnormal noises when using 2 USB connections then there is a problem with the drive. My external drive uses 2 power connections with no issues.
  18. I would be inclined to suspect the motherboard has a problem. Your friend's m/b will confirm this. Be prepared for the system not to boot - all you need is for the video to be working to confirm that the m/b is at fault.
  19. You are welcome Bob - anytime :)
  20. I assume you have tried the monitor on another PC ?
  21. Hi and welcome to ExTS Can you get it to boot to the Advanced Startup Options ? Switch on and tap F8 about once per second If you can get to the options screen try "Last Known Good Configuration" If that is no go .... Using F8 again there should be an option to "Repair Your Computer" If this is available you will need to select the Keyboard Layout ( this can be changed later anyway ) You will be asked to select user name and password if you have one. There may be options - if there are select "Startup Repair"
  22. Hi, I have adapted your link so that the pic is visible in the post. :) I assume that you have tried uninstalling the "Initio Default Controller" from Device Manager and re-booting with the external drive in place ? How is this powered? If there are 2 USB connections - are you using both ? Try this FixIt from here: click here
  23. If you used a different motherboard I am surprised that the system booted if you just inserted the old hard drive. Unless you re-installed Windows ? (and you wouldn't be able to do that with no visible graphics :) ) Do you have on-board Video or just the Radeon card? If you have the 2 options try taking the card out and using the on-board connection.
  24. Hi, If you Google "3d with astigmatism" there is a lot of information out there. From what I read, the eyes have to work together in order to view 3D. So those unfortunate people who have just one eye cannot appreciate the effect. I also read that it is about 5% of people who have eye problems who cannot view 3d. Somebody suggested contact lenses may help. This is really a question for your optician. They will be able to explain far better than I why you are not able to see the effect. Good luck.
  25. That is good to hear :)
