  1. Hi and welcome to ExTS Are the lines there immediately you boot up or do they develop after a time? I am thinking that if it is after a time - it could be heat related and a blast from a can of compressed air may shift some accumulated dust.
  2. If you are running memtest - the longer you let it run the better. Certainly for a few hours. The manual for your board is here: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/870A-G54.html#?div=Manual It may be of use if you don't have one. The manual states that supported RAM = DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*(OC) The (OC) refers to Over Clocked. You will not get this speed unless your system is Over Clocked. If you are using DDR3 XMS3, PC3-12800 (1600) it will not run at 1600MHz. This could possibly be the problem. The 1600 should run at 1333 but there may still be a compatibility issue. Run the Crucial Scan from here: http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/?click=true It will suggest compatible RAM plus other info.
  3. Hi, This is a full installation version of Win7 Pro or an upgrade ? Have you had it working before on this system ? Is it a legal version or a downloaded copy ?
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS. We are neighbours - I live in Irby :) I am wondering if this is a compatability issue. Is this new RAM or is it the original ? For reference - m/board specs here: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/870A-G54.html#Spec
  5. You are welcome :) I don't think you can - Your first post will need editing by a moderator. Good Luck.
  6. Hi and welcome to ExTS As you have re-installed I assume that you have no data that you wish to retreive ? Try taking the RAM out. Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and put just one module back in. Try booting with this. If no go - swap the modules over and try booting with just the other one. =================== Do you get any POST beeps ?
  7. On second thoughts - it does look as if the PSU is compatible with the case. It may be worthwhile double checking.
  8. Hi and welcome to ExTS I am not the most qualified here to comment - but I cannot see anything that would be incompatible with your choices - with one reservation. If you look at the case pictures ( there are some internal ones ) the PSU is mounted at the bottom. Looking at your choise of PSU it does not look compatible. I suggest that you check this out to be sure. The Video Card requires 500Watt so your PSU will be fine.
  9. Hi, As a precaution download ERUNT - install it and backup the registry. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html Download CCleaner from here: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner DO NOT use the Registry option. Install it and run it using the default settings. Delete what it finds.
  10. Thanks for the extra information Starbuck - I have Office 2003 on my XP machine ( Open Office on this one ) and I found nothing relating to .ODT for later versions. This is a quote from the parent site ( see original link ). Odd that they should suggest installing if office 2007 is compatible with .ODT anyway.
  11. Hi, Sorry about the link - you naturally assume that the parent site will have a working link. :) This one is another option: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Other-Office-Tools/Sun-ODF-Plugin-for-Microsoft-Office.shtml
  12. From what I can discover - the answer is "no". You can, however, open them if you d/l and install Sun ODF Plugin from here: http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin/index.jsp
  13. The more you use the machine with the lost files on - the less chance you have of retreiving them. If you have a second machine I suggest that you use that until you get further advice. We are all guilty of not backing up important files - but yours is an example of why files that are needed should be backed up off the original hard drive. Stable door syndrome. :)
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS. I hope we can help with your problem.
  15. Hi Dougie / MissVG I think you have bought the Priority Support £19-95. This was not necessary. You could try contacting them - explain that you were directed to their site and explain your situation. See if they will give you a refund. Alternatively, you could make use of the support that you have bought and ask if there is a way around the "corrupt" problem.
  16. Hi and welcome to ExTS Take a look here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-graphics-card-game-performance-radeon-hd-6670,review-32183.html It really depends on what you want to spend. Depending on the card you select you may need to upgrade your PSU. ( You only have 250Watt)
  17. Or ......if you want the complete set of instructions .....visit the original author's site here: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-replace-a-Laptop-Screen/
  18. I have sent a PM to Starbuck. He is usually away at weekends so please have a little patience until he gets to you :)
  19. Hi Rose and welcome to ExTS Good to hear that you fixed the problem :)
  20. You can't run MBAM or access Safe Mode. I think I will ask Starbuck to have a look at this thread and see if it is worthwhile having a security expert advise you further.
  21. Hi, I cannot say for sure. Bare in mind that your old card would not be using the full bandwidth. Your new card should, therefore, perform better ( being 2.0 ). If Dalo Harkin is about he will be able to advise further.
  22. Hi and welcome to ExTS I think this is the spec for your machine: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/inspd531/en/om/appendix.htm It shows that you have one PCIe 1.0 x16 slot. The new card is PCIe 2.0 x16. The card is backwards compatible with 1.0 ( according to the additional details on your card specs ) but you will not get the full 2.0 bandwidth. The card will operate at 1.0 speeds. You may also find that you need to upgrade the PSU - depending upon what you have at the moment.
  23. Hi, If your dad's laptop connects and yous doesn't - as I said .....it looks like a problem with your laptop .....unless the router is blocking your MAC Address. Did you use the restore DVDs or was it a System Restore. When you uninstalled the drivers and re-booted - did Windows identify new hardware ? It may have asked for you to insert the drivers CD or point it at the location. This is normal. Still renew your IP Address and post the IPconfig details please.
  24. I have heard of RAM causing some problems - but not that particular one :) Congratulations on finding the cause. Thanks for the feedback - I am sure somebody else will find this useful.
