Hi and welcome to ExTS
Are the lines there immediately you boot up or do they develop after a time?
I am thinking that if it is after a time - it could be heat related and a blast from a can of compressed air may shift some accumulated dust.
If you are running memtest - the longer you let it run the better. Certainly for a few hours.
The manual for your board is here:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/870A-G54.html#?div=Manual
It may be of use if you don't have one.
The manual states that supported RAM = DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600*(OC)
The (OC) refers to Over Clocked. You will not get this speed unless your system is Over Clocked.
If you are using DDR3 XMS3, PC3-12800 (1600) it will not run at 1600MHz.
This could possibly be the problem. The 1600 should run at 1333 but there may still be a compatibility issue.
Run the Crucial Scan from here:
http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/?click=true
It will suggest compatible RAM plus other info.
Hi,
This is a full installation version of Win7 Pro or an upgrade ?
Have you had it working before on this system ?
Is it a legal version or a downloaded copy ?
Hi and welcome to ExTS.
We are neighbours - I live in Irby :)
I am wondering if this is a compatability issue.
Is this new RAM or is it the original ?
For reference - m/board specs here:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/870A-G54.html#Spec
Hi and welcome to ExTS
As you have re-installed I assume that you have no data that you wish to retreive ?
Try taking the RAM out.
Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and put just one module back in.
Try booting with this.
If no go - swap the modules over and try booting with just the other one.
===================
Do you get any POST beeps ?
Hi and welcome to ExTS
I am not the most qualified here to comment - but I cannot see anything that would be incompatible with your choices - with one reservation.
If you look at the case pictures ( there are some internal ones ) the PSU is mounted at the bottom.
Looking at your choise of PSU it does not look compatible.
I suggest that you check this out to be sure.
The Video Card requires 500Watt so your PSU will be fine.
Hi,
As a precaution download ERUNT - install it and backup the registry.
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html
Download CCleaner from here:
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
DO NOT use the Registry option.
Install it and run it using the default settings.
Delete what it finds.
Thanks for the extra information Starbuck - I have Office 2003 on my XP machine ( Open Office on this one ) and I found nothing relating to .ODT for later versions.
This is a quote from the parent site ( see original link ).
Odd that they should suggest installing if office 2007 is compatible with .ODT anyway.
Hi,
Sorry about the link - you naturally assume that the parent site will have a working link. :)
This one is another option:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Office-tools/Other-Office-Tools/Sun-ODF-Plugin-for-Microsoft-Office.shtml
From what I can discover - the answer is "no".
You can, however, open them if you d/l and install Sun ODF Plugin from here:
http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin/index.jsp
The more you use the machine with the lost files on - the less chance you have of retreiving them.
If you have a second machine I suggest that you use that until you get further advice.
We are all guilty of not backing up important files - but yours is an example of why files that are needed should be backed up off the original hard drive.
Stable door syndrome. :)
Hi Dougie / MissVG
I think you have bought the Priority Support £19-95.
This was not necessary.
You could try contacting them - explain that you were directed to their site and explain your situation.
See if they will give you a refund.
Alternatively, you could make use of the support that you have bought and ask if there is a way around the "corrupt" problem.
Hi and welcome to ExTS
Take a look here:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-graphics-card-game-performance-radeon-hd-6670,review-32183.html
It really depends on what you want to spend.
Depending on the card you select you may need to upgrade your PSU. ( You only have 250Watt)
Or ......if you want the complete set of instructions .....visit the original author's site here:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-replace-a-Laptop-Screen/
You can't run MBAM or access Safe Mode.
I think I will ask Starbuck to have a look at this thread and see if it is worthwhile having a security expert advise you further.
Hi,
I cannot say for sure.
Bare in mind that your old card would not be using the full bandwidth. Your new card should, therefore, perform better ( being 2.0 ).
If Dalo Harkin is about he will be able to advise further.
Hi and welcome to ExTS
I think this is the spec for your machine:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/inspd531/en/om/appendix.htm
It shows that you have one PCIe 1.0 x16 slot.
The new card is PCIe 2.0 x16.
The card is backwards compatible with 1.0 ( according to the additional details on your card specs ) but you will not get the full 2.0 bandwidth.
The card will operate at 1.0 speeds.
You may also find that you need to upgrade the PSU - depending upon what you have at the moment.
Hi,
If your dad's laptop connects and yous doesn't - as I said .....it looks like a problem with your laptop .....unless the router is blocking your MAC Address.
Did you use the restore DVDs or was it a System Restore.
When you uninstalled the drivers and re-booted - did Windows identify new hardware ?
It may have asked for you to insert the drivers CD or point it at the location. This is normal.
Still renew your IP Address and post the IPconfig details please.
I have heard of RAM causing some problems - but not that particular one :)
Congratulations on finding the cause.
Thanks for the feedback - I am sure somebody else will find this useful.
