  1. I will ask him to take a look :)
  2. Hi, Try the "Restore CMD File Associations" from Kelly's Korner. http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Scroll down to the 325 ( right side ) This is for XP. Kelly is an MVP and I have used her fixes many times. EDIT Snap :)
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS Which email provider are you using ?
  4. I have replied to this here: http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/11741-sage-windows-xp-i-think-i-ve-lost-everything?p=76111&highlight=#post76111
  5. Hi Emma and welcome to ExTS. This is not surprising. When you install a program it fragments throughout the drive. It will expect to be on C:\ drive and if you now have it on an external USB connection the drive letter will be incorrect. So launching the program looks for it in C:\. If you buy a USB extension hub you need to install Sage on your new drive. You should then be able to open files on the old drive. We don't do that - you have a problem and need answers. I don't see any reason why it will not. If your data on the original drive is needed then do not add Sage or other software to the drive. Make any changes to the new drive. Leave the old drive until you can access the files properly. Get back to us if you need more explanation :)
  6. One other thought ... If you are accessing your bank accounts DO NOT use this computer. Change the password from a different computer. They may have put key-logger software on your system and may be able to monitor key strokes. Do NOT use this computer for accessing your accounts until Starbuck gives the system the all clear.
  7. Hi Katy and welcome to ExTS. Starbuck will be able to give you further information but for the time being .... 1. If you store information like passwords etc to bank accounts on your computer change them IMMEDIATELY then contact your bank(s) and let them know what has happened. You should be able to block any unusual withdrawalls. 2. If you keep credit card details then you need to contact your card provider too. Unlikely. If you have a router with a firewall ( most do ) and a software firewall then you should be OK. This is one for Starbuck. Unlikely. They are interested in your money not damaging your system. However, Starbuck will be able to check out your system for you. The main thing is stopping access to your accounts. Unless you keep these details on your system they should be OK - but as a precaution I would change passwords and inform card providers and take their advice.
  8. If this was a file(s) it/they may be in the Recycle Bin. Take a look there - you can restore it from there if you find anything. I assume that you only have recovery disks and not a full installation disk ?
  9. If you read my post again it says " My Computer > C:\ .............. You say that "local disc c" is showing. C:\ is the same as "local disc c". Click on this. You should see Program Files there.
  10. The path is correct. If you click on My Computer > C:\ > Program Files > Internet Explorer Does iexplore show there? You should be able to click on this to launch IE.
  11. If you right click on the icon > Properties What does it say in "Target" under the shortcut tab ? It should say something like: "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" What is showing in "Start in" ?
  12. Hi and welcome to ExTS Did you uninstall the old drivers before adding the new card? Suggest that you uninstall all sound drivers from Device Manager > shut down > switch off at the wall > install the new card Windows should find the new hardware and you should then be given the option of installing the drivers from the CD.
  13. Hi and welcome to ExTS Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945402 Click on the "Fix It" button.
  14. Hi Paul, Is the drive showing in "My Computer" ? If it is - if you right click on the folder in question > Properties What does it say regarding the size of the folder?
  15. Hi again, I found this: Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amps) Two available 6-pin PCI-E power dongles The 6-pin connector looks like this: http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/pcie6index.jpg If you don't have them - but you doo have spare molex connections - you can get an adapter. Molex connector: http://image.made-in-china.com/2f0j00SBkaZjtMfWbV/Molex-Connectors.jpg
  16. Take a look here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-graphics-card-geforce-gtx-590-radeon-hd-6990,2879.html You may not need to upgrade the PSU - it depends what you have already. The wattage is usually shown on a sticker on the PSU itself. Also depends on the Video Card you choose.
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS Your m/board specs http://www.gigabyte.lv/products/page/mb/ga-g31m-es2l_1x/ Your card specs: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product-geforce-gtx-465-us.html Your m/board has 1 PCIe x 16 slot which will take your new card. Your new card is PCIe 2.0 compatible and from what I can tell from a quick search, your m/board supports PCIe 1.0 ( Perhaps others can confirm this ? ) If the m/board was produced pre 2007 then It will not support PCIe 2.0 If this is the case - your new card is backwards compatible. In other words, it will work in your m/board but you may not get the full benefit of the card's features as PCIe 2.0 transfers data at twice the rate. You don't say what PSU ( wattage ) you have. If you do decide to go for this card then you may need to upgrade the PSU too.
  18. Hi and welcome to ExTS Does this machine pick up at network at the college? If so - it may be set to use a proxy server. Using 2 ethernet cables: Presumably you can get access to the router. Move closer and try the ethernet cables one at a time to ensure that it is not a fault with one of the cables.
  19. Right click on My Computer > Properties How much RAM do you have ?
  20. Hi, I am not a Win7 user so hope this works: Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc ......Enter Click the > next to "Network Adapters" What is listed? Are there any yellow exclamation marks?
  21. Hi and welcome to ExTS I suggest that you try an ethernet cable direct from the laptop to the router. If this gives you a constant connection we can take it from there.
  22. I believe Frank suggested this some time back :) Good to hear that you got there in the end.
  23. Hi, If this is Vista you should be able to right click on the Unallocated space ( in diskmanagement ) and select "Format" You should then be able to right click and allocate a drive letter. You may find this useful: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Change-add-or-remove-a-drive-letter
  24. You can get an adapter. Assuming the floppy drive is a molex connection: http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/3516123/PCI-E-PCI-Express-Graphics-Molex-Power-Cable/Product.html?_$ja=tsid:11518|cat:3516123|prd:3516123
