  1. You have the OS installed ? Can you boot up in Safe Mode and stay stable ?
  2. I am now unsure why you are getting that message. You should be using SP3. It is available from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=5b33b5a8-5e76-401f-be08-1e1555d4f3d4&displaylang=en Cany you ping the router? Start > Run .....type in cmd ......ENTER At the prompt type .....ping 192.168.1.1 You should get packets sent and packets received.
  3. Which Service Pack do you have ? Start > Run ....type in ......winver .......ENTER
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS If this is the case then the problem would seem to lie with your laptop. I am not a Win7 user so I hope all of this works for you. Wireless Connection ( not cable ) Start > in the Run box type cmd then CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER (should put you into elevated Admin mode ) At the prompt type ........ipconfig /release ( there is a space after ipconfig ) Then type......... ipconfig / renew ========================= At the prompt type ......ipconfig / all Top left there should be a small black icon - right click on this > Edit > Select All > CTRL + C ( this will copy the text ) Open Notepad and CTRL + V ( this will paste the text ) Save it to a USB flash drive so that you can post it here. ========================= How did you reset the router? ========================= I am around for most of the evening ...... :)
  5. I have already answered this ! Please keep related questions to the same thread.
  6. I answered this above: The fact that it is 850 Watts is not going to cause any extra heat build-up. The rating is the maximum that it can supply - not the constant output. The system will draw what it needs. For example: An LED typically requires 25mA. It will need a current limiting resister but the calculation involves only the voltage and current requirements of the LED. The maximum current a battery can supply does not come into the equation. Yes
  7. This is a cause for concern as it should run with no problems. Try it in Safe Mode. Switch on - constantly tap F8 about once per second. Select Safe Mode from the list of options.
  8. Hi, The SSID is the name broadcast by your router to identify your network. Right click on the monitor icon ( bottom right ) and the available networks are listed there. Your SSID is shown in this list.
  9. I am a firm believer in ----if it ain't broke .......don't fix it. If you are not having any problems at the moment I would leave the system as it is. You may find this of interest: http://www.wikihow.com/Boost-a-Router-Signal
  10. Hi, Try connecting to one of your neighbours' networks. Even if it is security enabled you should get as far as being asked for the security key without error. EDIT: Take a look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884787
  11. Hi and welcome to ExTS You don't say which motherboard you have. Your present Video Card is PCIe 2 x 16 You suggested replacement is the same. It will be compatible. The PSU, if it is a direct replacement, will be fine. The fact that it is 850 Watts is not going to cause any extra heat build-up. The rating is the maximum that it can supply - not the constant output. The system will draw what it needs. For example: An LED typically requires 25mA. It will need a current limiting resister but the calculation involves only the voltage and current requirements of the LED. The maximum current a battery can supply does not come into the equation.
  12. Hi, The manual for your m/board is here: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-880gm-ud2h(us2h)_v1.4_e.pdf Have a look at page 77 On Chip Sata Controller must be enabled.
  13. Hi, Can you take the drive out and slave it to another system? If so you should be able to format it from there and run a manufacturers diagnostic on the drive to check it out.
  14. When you get this message - does the program run properly anyway? Do you get a Virtual Memory / Page File error message at any other time ? For continuity it would help if you could reply a little quicker :)
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS Start > Run ....type in ......devmgmt.msc .......ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters Are there any yellow exclamation marks ? What is listed exactly?
  16. Hi, Download MBAM from here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html Remember to let it update before you run it. If it finds any malware copy the log and post it here. A removal expert may need to advise further.
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS Try "Last Known Good Configuration" from the Advanced Startup options ( where you selected Safe Mode fom ). If this doesn't solve it.... Boot up. Start > type in ....msconfig .....ENTER Click on the Startup tab. Uncheck everything EXCEPT the AntiVirus and Firewall entries, OK the changes. Reboot. Let us know the result. If this is recent you could tr System Restore to a date just prior to the start of your problem. Also ... Registry Cleaners - NOT a good idea. The Registry is far to complex to entrust to a piece of software. If it deletes the wrong keys your system can be rendered inoperable.
  18. Hi, All BIOS systems are different. You are looking for "Auto Detect" with reference to drives. This needs to be enabled. Also look for Enable SATA or Use Serial ATA or similar. http://www.support-pcs.co.uk/tutorials/images/tut_bios/tut_bios.tweak1.jpg You should also be able to see the drive listed. http://219.142.122.173/userfiles/image/2_EN-Phoenix%20BIOS.jpg
  19. Hi and welcome to ExTS Have you managed to install the O/S ? You have a new build with a floppy drive ? Does the drive show up in the BIOS ?
  20. Hi and welcome to ExTS Take a look at the articles here: http://www.onguardonline.gov/topics/online-shopping.aspx http://www.safeshopping.org/tips.shtml
  21. You are welcome. Don't forget - look for reviews of the drive you are interested in.
  22. Hi and welcome to ExTS. You need to be aware that all hard drives are not the same. Laptops use 2.5 inch hard drives. ( Desktops are 3.5 inch ). Also, there are two basic standards - SATA and PATA. PATA is commonly called IDE and has a broad cable compared to the SATA drives. I found a Specification that identified the TX86 as having a SATA drive. There are different speeds available too. 5400 r/m and 7200 r/m/ The 7200 r/m will transfer data faster. You can positively identify the type of drive by the connections. see here: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=76 Be aware that if you replace the drive you will need to install the Operating System onto the new drive.
  23. You are welcome. The extra expense just doesn't make sense :)
  24. The easiest way forward is to find a case that fits your motherboard. BTX. There are very few about. Be aware that if the case comes without a PSU you need a BTX PSU too. 305Watt - depends what you are running. If you are thinking of upgrading your Video Card then you would probably need a new PSU too. If you do buy an ATX case - you will need a new motherboard. If you don't have the original Operating Installation Disk you will need to buy a new OS too. Seems to me a big expense to see no improvement in performance. Have you thought of asking an artist friend to customise the original case for you?
  25. Hi, I have been doing a bit of reading and your Dell has a BTX form factor board. Most cases are ATX and they are not compatible. There are BTX cases about and you may be able to find a dual BTX / ATX case. Remeber your old PSU may not be compatible with the new case. If you find a case that is compatible you should not need a new motherboard.
