  1. You should get USB 3 speeds. The info relating to USB 3 says that it is capable of transfer speeds of [uP TO ] 5 Gbit/s - which is 10 times faster than the older USB 2. They cannot guarantee the maximum speed due to a number of factors but the transfer rate will be considerably faster than USB 2 There is a newer USB 3.1 that was released in 2013 This has a theoretical transfer rate of 10 Gbit/s I suspect that the cards that you are looking at will be USB 3.0 [ 5 Gbit/s ]
  2. Hi, Have I answered your questions - or is there something that needs further explanation ?
  3. I still don't see a need for a dual bay - unless you want it permanently attached. ? Those links don't take me to ebay - I get re-directed. I also get re-directed when I post a link to the ORICO item on ebay ????? I also get re-directed if I click on the blue ebay above - it must be the forum software !! You can add a PCI card if you wish - they are relatively cheap. Normally you would get 2 USB 3.0 connections and these would be at the rear of your pc tower. I assume that you have checked that there is space for one ?
  4. Hi, If you are simply wanting to use an external hard drive(s) to store / backup files etc I have to ask why you are considering a RAID configurable Dual Hard-drive box ? RAID can be viewed simply as storing data across both drives [ i.e. treating both drives as one ] It does have one or two advantages - the main one being faster read / write capability. However, if you are using it for back-up this will not be important to you. For back-up purposes I use an external hard-drive(s) connected directly to a USB port on my computers. No dual box needed. USB3 is backwards compatible. What this means is - yes you can use any device that is USB 3 on any computer with a USB Port. If your computer has USB 2.0 then a USB 3.0 device will work BUT it will work slower - i.e it will run at the speed of your USB 2.0. Molex connections are usually internal 12v connections from the Power Supply Unit on a Desktop Computer. [ a tower type - not a laptop ] Are you considering a permanent internal arrangement ? I can't see why an external Dual HDD Box would need a Molex connection. 1. Would an external Hard Drive serve your purpose.? 2. Do you need RAID ? 3. Can you provide a link to the device you are considering please ?
  5. At least you know what is is now Bob :)
  6. These are correct. At least "Run as Admin" is a work around for the moment. Please do as Starbuck asks in post #7
  7. Hi Bob If he doesn't want it [ it used to be totally free - I now see that you get a free trial and then it is paid for ] you can remove it. I found this regarding removing LogMe-In Open Command Prompt (If in Windows Vista or newer, make sure you run Command Prompt as an Administrator) To do this Open Search - type in ....command prompt ......in the left panel right click on "Command Prompt" and click on "Run as Administrator" Type cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn\x86" .........(x64 if using a 64-bit OS) and hit Enter. Type logmein uninstall and hit Enter. Once the uninstall is complete, reboot the computer. It may be worth taking a look in Add / Remove to see if it is listed there. If it is try removing it from there. There is always a possibility that it is not on his system at all. I would have thought that he would be aware of it if it is.
  8. Hi Bob LogMe-In is a piece of software that you can have on your computer which allows you to access the computer from anywhere - assuming the computer is switched on. Once logged in you have full access to the files etc. and can even open Word and type. The words will appear on the screen of the remote computer [ the one with LogMe-In on. In other words - complete control. I have used this in the past. I assume your friend doesn't have LogMe-In on his system? What was the email suggesting ?
  9. I don't want to confuse things by having two sets of advice running but this will only take one reply. Right click on the Chrome icon in the taskbar. Then right click on "Google Chrome" Now left click "Properties" What does it say in "Target" What does it say in "Start in" Does "Run as Administrator" work ?
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS I will ask one of our security experts to take a look at your problem. Please be patient.
  11. I suggested this earlier and the OP ignored my post ..... so I deleted it. If the OP doesn't re-boot he should be able to see if the new mouse is giving the same problem.
  12. Let us know how you get on. I had a Canon printer one time and the nozzles were always drying up. I ended up dumping the printer and was given a really old Epson - which is still working fine :)
  13. Hi, Have you tried removing the driver software and re-installing them ?
  14. Good to hear that your problem is solved :)
  15. You disabled it in Device Manager and it is still working ? Let us know how it goes :)
  16. Hi joddle, Go to Device Manager [ Search > type in ....device manager ... hit Return ] Click on the > next to Network Adapters Is there a yellow exclamation mark next to the WiFi software ? Suggest you make a note of what is listed against WiFi [ the wireless drivers will have "wireless" or "wifi" against what is listed ] Then Right click on the wireless driver You can try "Update Driver" and let it do this automatically If no success select "Uninstall" You will need to reboot. Windows should reinstall the drivers. If not [ unlikely ] then you have a note of what was listed to identify suitable drivers. You could also try [ if we have no luck with the above ] a USB-wireless-adapter. These can be bought quite cheaply. If trying this I would Disable the onboard WiFi-adapter from Device Manager.
  17. Hi joddle I had a similar problem a while back - but mine kept dropping out. If I switched the wireless-adapter off - then back on again this seemed to fix it .....until t dropped out again. When you say was this using a different router ? Or were you using the same router to connect to the second network ? The reason I ask is - my problem seemed to be with the routers [ I tried two !! ] I have since gone to fibre and a new router and the problem is now resolved. Do you have a different router to try - especially if the router was the common factor when you tried a different network. You could also try updating the WiFi-Adapter software. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
  18. Your old forum name and account has not been altered you should still be able to log in with it. Let me know if you can't. Re emails - I will take a look at your settings. Good to hear that you managed to sort your DVD :)
  19. I have just checked - there is nothing wrong with the "Dopey" account. The email showing is tony etc I have removed the second half of the email address. I will remove the above after you reply - just to be on the safe side.
  20. Hi Bob I will ask Pete to take a look :)
  21. Keep us up to date if there are any more developments Bob :)
  22. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) It is a long time since I used CCleaner. Certainly do not use the Registry option - on this or any other so-called Registry Tuneup / Clean / Tweek etc etc software. Invariably they do more harm than good. This may help - click here You could use Windows own Disk Cleanup. I have added a link to this and a bit more. - click here
  23. Let's know how you get on Bob :)
  24. Hi Bob Have you tried re-installing Chrome ?
