  1. Hi Roy, Do the following please: Go back to the Command Prompt [ post #8 where you tried Bootrec ] Type in .... diskpart .... click Enter You will get a prompt which you need to accept. At the new screen type in ....... list volume ...... click Enter You will get a list of the partitions on your disk. I am only interested in the partitions that have been allocated a drive letter [ A; B; C; D etc ] Let me know the Volume number > the Letter > the Label name. I am wondering if the Main Drive has, somehow, been allocated a different drive letter [ usually C: ] Once you have the information type in ......exit ......click Enter ================================= This will often give you the option of formatting. Did you follow directions from a link? If so can you post it here please ?
  2. Hi Roy, Did you type in the command exactly as shown - attrib c:\boot\bcd -h -r -s Space after attrib and space after bcd and -h -r -s The - is a minus If you did try step 7 [ renaming the BCD ] ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old [ space after ren and the first bcd ] ============================ When you re-installed Win-10 did you format the drive before reinstalling ?
  3. This result probably means that Windows installation data exists in the BCD but no additional installations can be found by Bootrec to add to BCD [ Boot Configuration Data ] I think you may have to go into a little more detail to rebuild the BCD. Take a look here: click here
  4. No problem J-B .......let's see what further info Roy can give us
  5. Hi Roy, A question or two: 1. Do you get a blue screen when you switch on? 2. Assume you can't boot up - is this the case? 3. If you get a blue screen - what is the rest of the error message ? Below is a common result Error 0XC0000142 -This error is often associated with software installations which is confusing me. Please give us some more information :) [ J-B ....I got your PM ]
  6. Not happened yet Charlie :)
  7. Hi and welcome Not really my area of expertise but I did find this video that may help - click here
  8. Hi and welcome to ExTS This could be that there is an "Indexing" problem. Take a look here - click here There are a few ways of repairing this - scroll down the page. Let me know how you get on.
  9. I asked for Admin privileges for both of us Pete :)
  10. I posted asking for Admin privileges Pete - waiting for a reply :)
  11. I had forgotten that we had a F-B page :( Off to check it now.
  12. Hi and welcome:) To add to what J-B has said : 4GB may be the limit for this system [even if you have spare slots ] The reason is - 32 Bit systems have a 4GB limit for RAM. Adding more than that makes no difference. 64 Bit systems are more accommodating and, depending upon the mother-board, you could possibly add RAM up to 16 or 32 GB. The details J-B is asking for should confirm what you have.
  13. You are welcome Ray
  14. Hi Ray, "True Key" is a "legitimate" piece of software from Intel Security. It was probably piggy-backed onto something else that you installed. It is a password manager and the free version allows up to 15 passwords to be stored. After that - you have to pay. If you have uninstalled it - that should be the last you see of it. :)
  15. Hi and welcome To change the password your cousin must have had admin privileges. To change the password on a computer that does not belong to you is, frankly, irresponsible. As we have no way of confirming that the computer is actually yours - the policy here is that we do not provide assistance with bypassing passwords. I am sorry that we cannot help. Your cousin will need to try to remember what they changed it to. Remember - passwords are case sensitive. By the way - does the forum name "phnu" mean anything to you ? It shows up in a spammer's database along with your email address.
  16. Hi Firstly I must apologise for the slow response - I have been tied up [ not literally :) ] over the last few days. As you have tried 2 cards unsuccessfully I am tempted to look at the additional power connections. Your original card did not need supplementary power - the two failed cards do. Do you have a volt meter / multimeter to test the voltage supplied to the cards by the connections? I know you say that the fans are spinning but this is not real test as they will spin with a much reduced power supply. Can you try the GTX560 in another machine to see if you get the same results? I am a bit confused as you state 1 x 6 pin connection for the GTX560 - the specs I found suggest that there are two ?
  17. You are welcome Neill - just happy it was that simple :)
  18. Hi J-B Good to see you posting here again. I have changed your OS to "Windows 10" Needed to use the blank option instead of "Vista" and write in "Win-10" in the space below :)
  19. Hi, Ah - I had it the other way around. Assuming this is a desktop ........ Try taking the CMOS battery out for 1 minute then replace [ note the + is usually on top ] - this will reset the BIOS to defaults. Hopefully this will do it for you.
  20. Hi Neill, Does the system work if you tap F8 constantly after switching on. At the Advanced Options screen select Safe Mode. Screen will look odd due to only basic drivers being loaded.
  21. Hi Ray, "Beta" indicates that the software is still under test and could have bugs in it. The developers have tested it as far as they can and have released it for general use so that people like you and me can give them feedback if we find any bugs or hitches in the software. When they are happy that the software works as it should they will remove the "Beta" tag. I have just installed this and I can't open it from the desktop icon. I can, however, open it from the Task Bar. If this is a common occurrence then the developers would need to take a look at it. EDIT: I can now open it from the desktop as long as I right click and "Run as Administrator" :) Not the usual way of doing things.
  22. Hi, This implied that you had installed it. Did you install after downloading ? If you did there should be an icon [ logo ] on your desktop. If you didn't - go to Downloads - it will be there. Click on the download file and it should install from there.
  23. I can't explain this - sorry :( You should have an Open Office logo on your desktop. If you click on this it will take you to a box with options in it. http://cdn.portableapps.com/OpenOfficePortable.png Double left click [mouse] or tap the laptop mousepad on "Text Document" which will be top left. You will then see this: The pulsing curser - top left - is where the typing takes place. Try pressing some keys. The Back Space key will delete when you are ready to. If you want capital letters - hold the Shift key down and type. If you hit the Enter / Return key it takes you to a new line. To save what you have typed click on "File" [ top left ] http://static.commentcamarche.net/ccm.net/pictures/7Tm5fPs5-preb1-s-.png Click on "Save As" Give the file a name. Select where you want to save it to [ Desktop may be the best option ] This is where it says "Save In" - click on the down arrow to find "Desktop" or "Documents" or wherever you want to save it to. To save in Microsoft format - Click on the down-arrow [ shown above] Then click on the Microsoft 97 / 2000 option [ if you want the file to be able to be read by somebody with MS Word ] Then click on Save. If you leave it without selecting MS 97/2000 there is no problem you will still be able to open it again later. This is basically all you need.
