  1. Hi EMVEE and welcome to ExTS Take a look here - click here It explains the process quite well.
  2. Hi Bringe Take a look here - click here If you want to browse without your history being recorded take a look at DuckDuckGo.com This is a browser that states that they do not track your activity.
  3. No problem Jim - if you need us you know where we are :)
  4. Hi Colin, When you initially switch on Microsoft takes you through a "set-up" sequence. Take a look here - "Two Factor Authentication" is mentioned - This can be ignored if you don't have it set up already. If you want to change any of the options later this is always possible. Just make sure that you select the correct location [ UK ? ] and UK Keyboard. If you select US keyboard some of the keys [ @ for instance ] are incorrect :)
  5. Hi Colin, It is so much easier if you have an ISP at the moment - do you ? I assume that you have as you have posted here :) Most Windows 10 laptops come with wi-fi installed. It is convenient to have an Ethernet connection too [ this is a socket where you can plug the cable into ] Many laptops don't have this option but if you are having internet connection problems it is useful to be able to try a cable instead of wi-fi There is lots of information on-line re: the Win 10 Operating System. YouTube has lots of videos. Regarding updating the system: Windows 10 updates automatically - unless you turn off this setting. We never recommend buying an Anti-Virus. - there are quite a few good ones available for free. Windows 10 comes with "Defender" already installed - [ a good Anti-Virus ] so no problems here. Sometimes a new laptop comes with another A-V installed - like McAfee - for a trial period. This is a nuisance !! It is relatively easy to remove this and turn "Defender" back on. [ we don't recommend having 2 A-Vs running at the same time. ] I assume that you will have more questions after reading this :)
  6. Hi Colin and welcome to ExTS Sorry to have to disappoint you - I'm from the UK too :)
  7. Hi Ian and welcome to ExTS Are you using a mobile phone? If so, and if you know that you have an internet connection, it could be the Messenger App itself that has a problem.
  8. Hi, Not sure if you have access to the manual for your router - click here I am not familiar with D-Link routers but will help if I can.
  9. You are complicating things Jim - no need for an Open Office file. Simply use PrtScr as advised - then use "Reply" here - then CTRL + V after clicking in the "Reply" box.
  10. Hi Jim and Happy New Year to you and yours. Is "Google Meeting" part of Gmail ? A screen shot would help. On the top row of the keyboard is "PrtScr" - Print Screen. If it is by itself simply press the key - this takes an impression of your screen and stores it in memory Come here - click on "Reply" to this post and then hold down CTRL and press V If, like mine, you have two items on the same key If PrtScr is on top you will need to hold down the "Shift" key then press PrtScr. CTRL + V is still the same.
  11. Thanks for the update Phil. It seems M$ messed up ......again !! Glad to hear that you got it sorted. Happy New Year to you :)
  12. Hi MrFixit and Happy New Year to you too. Take a look here - click here It seems that you are not alone.
  13. Re password Did you use the "netplwiz" instruction from the top of my post? Did you confirm the change with the existing password ? This needs a re-boot to confirm changes.
  14. Hi Jimmy, Password In the Search box [ bottom left of screen ] type .... netplwiz .... hit Enter You will see this: Uncheck the box "Users must enter a username etc " You will probably need to use the password to confirm. ========================== Computer Name In the Search box type ..... control panel .... hit Enter Click on "System and Security .........then "System" you will see this: Click on "See the name of this computer" You will see the computer name here and on the far right side "Change Settings" Click on this and type in the new name. [ Spaces are not allowed or commas etc ] Restart the machine for changes to take effect.
  15. You should be able to plug the USB keyboard and the USB mouse into the laptop's USB ports and connect to the monitor if you wish via the HDMI sockets with an appropriate cable.
  16. Hi I am a little confused. The keyboard and mouse are usually connected to your computer and this would connect to the monitor via the HDMI socket. What is the make and model number of the monitor please.
  17. Hi, Take a look here. Instead of the "Wired Ethernet Device" as shown - select your WiFi. Uncheck the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device ....... " I am hoping that you have this option. My version of Win 10 does not. Let me know how you get on.
  18. Generally, on-board video cannot cope with manipulating graphics intensive software as well as a dedicated Video Card. A Video Card has its own GPU [ Graphics Processing Unit ] and RAM. On-board video has to make use of the system's RAM and CPU. This can cause the system to "bottle-neck" and slow down depending upon what processes it is doing. Just another note about SSDs. These are expensive and for the same money you would be able to get a much bigger [ but slower ] SATA hard drive. If you want a lot of storage then you may have to compromise on this option. I have just had a quick "Google" and you should be able to get a reasonable machine for your £400. Be aware that if you come across "Renewed" in the description the system has been used and is refurbished.
  19. Hi and welcome to ExTS We don't recomment specific hardware or machines as, if you are unhappy with your buy, you will automatically blame us :) What I can do is point you in the right direction. 1. Make sure that the version of Windows is 64bit and Win 10 2. A Solid State Drive [ SSD ] is a lot faster than a standard Hard Drive. 3. 4GB or more RAM 4. Intel Xeon/Core 2 Duo or Quad /Core i7 or AMD Opteron/Phenom processor 5. Stay away from onboard Video Card. Having said all of this you will be hard-pressed to find these specs on a machine for £400 You could compromise on the Hard Drive. To manipulate graphics you need the best specs that you can afford. DAZ Studio does not require a machine with particularly high specs [ look this up ] I did, however, read a few reviews that certainly didn't recommend it :( You may find this useful reading - click here
  20. Thanks for updating us. Re IP Address - as Admin I get an option to see the IP Address of members who post. The software also gives us a country and ISP. Hope you have a great Christmas :)
  21. Thanks for the feedbck. It sounds as if your son did a great job. :)
  22. Let's hope that the replacement works for you. Keep us updated.
  23. Hi, Doesn't sound good :( You don't list the motherboard. Let me know the Make and model number please. You could always contact the supplier and request a replacement. I wouldn't mention flashing the BIOS though.
