  1. Thanks for the update Jim :)
  2. Sorry for the slow response - I have only just found your post :( This is not my area of expertise at all - so my input will be minimal .....sorry. If you are still having problems ......... Have you tried this: click here
  3. The split screen did have me puzzled. Let us know how you get on.
  4. I think what you are experiencing is "Image Persistence". It is similar to Image Burn with older CRT monitors. It is caused by leaving the image - in your case the Bookmarks /Desktop- static on screen for a period of time. The image is "burned" into the pixels of the screen. This is why you can see the "Ghosting" on Start-up. You can sometimes fix this by leaving the monitor switched off for a long period of time - possibly up to a couple of days. Try it over night initially. You could also try typing .....about:blank .....[there is a colon after the t ] into the address bar of your browser and hit "Enter". This will flood the screen with pure white. Then press F11 to adjust the density to max Leave this white screen for some hours. To prevent this in future put a screen saver on to kick in after a few minutes of inaction.
  5. Hi, Do you have a different monitor that you can try ? Just to identify the cause. Have you tried re-installing the graphics card driver software ?
  6. Hi HBE, Glad that it all went well for you. I will chalk this up as "Solved" :)
  7. Let us know how you get on. Before you start - in the search box [ bottom left of screen ] type ..... devmgmt.msc .... hit Enter. In Device Manager click the > next to "network Adapters" Make an exact copy of what is listed. You may need this later after Resetting the laptop.
  8. Hi HBE Thank you for your kind comments :) Question: You refer to your Acer Laptop. Originally you say that this had Vista on it. You then say that the old Acer has Win10 on it. Have you upgraded the OS from Vista to Win 10 ? Or am I reading your post wrong? =========================== You certainly can wipe everything off the hard disk leaving Win 10. If you upgraded to Win 10 from Vista or Win 8 you may see a third option. “Restore Factory Settings” DO NOT select this as it will revert your laptop to the original OS and NOT Win 10. If you are removing "everything" then photos, files etc. would need to be copied to another drive if you wish to keep these. This process is "Resetting The PC" Take a look here - click here If you want to have internet access after removing everything you would probably need to reinstall the drivers of the wireless adapter if Windows doesn't do it automatically. =========================== Your intention to use Win 10 antivirus is fine. Win 10 comes with "Defender" installed and this AV is perfectly fine.
  9. Hi Jim That is an LCD monitor. It could have had a knock at that point - either way there wouldn't seem to be a way back from where it is now. It will be a case of "living with it" as you say. Is there anything else that we could help with ?
  10. Hi, Glad it worked for you. Mine drops out regularly - not sure why - but the solution is simple enough :)
  11. Thanks for the photo Jim. That certainly is odd. If this is an LCD screen then it could be caused by dropping or ill-treatment. I suspect that it is a result of you spilling coffee although hard to say exactly. I doubt that it will grow any bigger - but obviously keep an eye on it. [ you have to anyway as it is a monitor :) :) ] ============================ You have mentioned a couple of other problems. Do you want to explain the most annoying in a little more detail ?
  12. Hi Jim Did this problem occur immediately after the coffee incident or was it before ? Can you post a photo ?
  13. Hi I have a similar problem with mine. I unplug the master unit for 10 to 20 seconds and plug it in again. It re-connects to the other units after a couple of minutes.
  14. We were trying to avoid a re-install but it seems that was the way to go in the end. There must have been a remnant of the "click to run" extension hiding somewhere. Glad you have Office 16 installed now.
  15. I did read a "solution" that involved a "Re-set" of your Operating System. This basically re-installs Windows but keeps your files and data. You did, earlier, suggest that you may "start over" - this may be an option to try before you take that step. Click here If you decide to try this I would suggest that you backup anything you don't want to lose - just in case :) We are happy to try to find a solution still - but we are running out of options. :)
  16. Hi, Photoshop requirements are here - click here Hard Drive You have two choices with hard drives. 1. SATA drive - this is probably the most common. 2. SSD - solid state drive [ no moving parts] The SSD is a much faster drive BUT it will be a case of compromise if you opt for this. It processes data much faster than a SATA drive. 1. They are relatively expensive - the larger the capacity the more expensive 2. Because of this you would probably have to opt for a smaller capacity drive than you would get with a SATA machine for the same price. If you don't want to store masses of data then consider the SSD. [ you can always store data on an external drive ] Most machines come with 64 bit Windows installed. There is a 32 bit option. This limits your processing capability - opt for a 64 bit system. RAM If you can get a machine with 8GB RAM or more then this is ample. 32 bit systems are limited to 4GB. Graphics Card If you are using Photo Shop then you will probably need something better than standard on-board graphics. Take a look at the specs from the link I posted. The machine you get is obviously limited by the price that you want to pay. We are not gamers here - but I am sure that the above information holds true for "light gaming". I hope that this helps :)
  17. Hi, Install Revo Uninstaller [ FREE ] from here - click here Run the software. Any Office entries please delete. Use the "Moderate" [default] option then after the software has been removed immediately "Scan" for left-over files.
  18. Hi, There could be leftover traces in the Registry that the installation is picking up. Please try the following: In the SEARCH box [ bottom left of screen ] type ..... regedit ...then hit ENTER Click the > next to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT Scroll down and click the > next to "Installer" Scroll down and look for "Products" Click the > next to "Products" Now press CTRL + F [ together ] In the "Find what" box type ....... Office 16 click-to-run Extensibility Component If any entries are found for click-to-run extensibility right click and delete. [ just that entry - nothing else ] If nothing is found try just Office 16 or click-to-run Please DO NOT delete anything you are unsure of. Please DO NOT make any other adjustments to the Registry.
  19. Can you provide a screen shot of the message relating to the "32 bit component" please ? If not - what does it say exactly ? Also - CTRL + SHIFT + ESC pressed all together will give you the running processes. If any are 32 bit they will show here with ( 32 bit ) showing along side. It is ok to have 32 bit processes running. Does this identify anything that is indicated in the error message ?
  20. Hi and welcome to ExTS Have you removed any older versions of Office before trying to install Office 16 ? Apparently they can conflict.
  21. Hi again, Take a look here - click here Hopefully one of these suggestions will fix it.
  22. Hi, When you clicked on "View" did you check "Auto Arrange Icons" AND " Align Icons to Grid" ? This should have locked all icons on the Desktop.
