  1. If you have updated the BIOS then your settings would have been reverted to factory defaults [ I am pretty sure ] Try one thing at a time. Let's hope that you have sorted it :)
  2. Glad that you got it sorted :) I am sure that others will benefit from your solution.
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS Is this a new build or has the system been working previously? Do you only have the one HDD connected? Have you tried moving the SATA cable to a different port on the M-Board Have you tried a different SATA cable ?
  4. Although this looks like the cause, according to the BSOD Expert in this thread, [ click here ] it is seldom the case. Simplest thing to do is to re-set the Bios to factory defaults. You could also update the BIOS - but this should be a last resort. You say you are going to remove the Video card. Uninstall the drivers too. The error you describe could be due to drivers - if you have removed the card then delete the drivers from Device Manager.
  5. Go for it :) :)
  6. Removing the Graphics Card Do you propose to use onboard Graphics? Personally I would use the Graphics Card - unless you suspect it may be causing a problem.
  7. Try uninstalling the mouse drivers first. Accessing the mini-dump files may prove a little more difficult :)
  8. Hi and welcome to ExTS. Your MBoard specs state DDR4 RAM as you state. The QVL only lists DDR4 RAM. click here You should not have DDR2 RAM in DDR4 slots.
  9. Hi - Can you access the mini-dump files ? Have you tried updating the mouse drivers from Device Manager ? Try uninstalling the mouse drivers from there if there is no improvement. The drivers will be re-installed when you re-boot.
  10. Keep us informed :) :)
  11. Let's hope that did it for you :) I would install system and chipset drivers first. Then I would install WiFi drivers and sort out security. I don't really think there is a definitive sequence after this.
  12. In addition to what Rustys has suggested ...... Unplug the power lead from the wall socket. When you take the display card out clean the copper contacts with a pencil eraser - then reseat it. Some systems do not have an actual video [ display] card - these systems have an onboard chip which cannot be taken out. When you are inside the case - take out the RAM module too. Clean the contacts with the pencil eraser and replace. Locate the CMOS battery. [ round silver battery ] Take this out for 30 seconds then replace. The + should be showing on top. If your date and time were incorrect before the problem started - replace this battery. Put the side panel back in place - plug in and switch on.
  13. Hi, Could the error message be "Driver Power State Failure" ? If so - this can be caused by Video Card drivers needing updating [ you say you have done this :) ] It could also be WiFi card drivers. Try updating these too. If that doesn't work for you try this: Take a look in Device Manager. If there are any yellow exclamation marks right click on the device and update the driver. If that doesn't do it .... Take a look here - click here I followed the power options at the bottom and I don't have the PCI option :( Hopefully you will. ================== Let me have a detailed account of your results please :)
  14. I assume, from your other thread, that your desktop icons are still not working. Is this correct ?
  15. Hi Jim As your "System Restore" wasn't turned on - you will have no restore points to revert your system to an earlier date if you turn it on now. [ This is what I was referring to in another thread ] Turning System Restore ON could be beneficial to future problems but will not make any difference to your desktop icon problem. It should be turned on by default. Restoring the OS, as Starbuck states, is NOT the same thing.
  16. I don't recall the downloading of Irfanview being part of the solution - but if your desktop is back to normal that is great :)
  17. We seem to be getting side-tracked Jim. Let's stick to one problem at a time. :) Have you followed the video instructions on the machine with the desktop icons problem ?
  18. No - you are not tasking me too much at all :) The process described in the video should correct this ..... if we are talking about desktop icons.
  19. If this is the case you cannot have the Restore Points switched on. :( [ remind me to explain how to turn Restore Points on ] This video explains far better that I can using just words what I suggest ..... Suggest that you watch it a few times and make notes. Especially at the end where you are shutting down explorer.exe - the screen will go black. In other words - make sure you know how to re-start explorer Let me know how you get on.
  20. Hi Jim Back to the original problem .... your desktop icons. [ we can look at other related problems later ] I think the simplest thing to try here would be a System Restore. This will revert your machine back to the date selected. [ i.e. prior to the start of your problems ] You will not lose any files / photos etc BUT you will lose any installed software after the chosen date. You will probably find that DuckDuckGo will no longer be on your system. Take a look here - click here [ you may want to copy the instructions ] Do not switch your machine off during the process. If you are using a laptop plug in the charging lead. Let me know how you get on.
  21. Hi Jim It should show in Control Panel. Click Start button. Then go to Control Panel. Click Uninstall a Program. Find DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials and click Uninstall. [ it could be there as DuckDuckGo.com ] If no joy .......... Try downloading "Revo Uninstaller" [ free version] - click here Install this and run it. It should locate DuckDuckGo Highlight it and click on "Uninstall" If you are given options ...... go with the default. EDIT: I have DuckDuckGo and I ran the Revo software and guess what ...... it doesn't show up. Give it a go [ I have Win10 ] and see if it shows up for you. If not we can try another method.
  22. Hi Jim Did the problem with the Desktop icons start after you installed Brave and DuckDuckGo ? If so - uninstall them and see if this resolves the problem.
  23. Hi Ray, Silly question - when you changed the boot option in the bios did you "Save and Exit" ....usually F10 ?
