1. Hi As Nev and Ray have advised ..... you need something like this. click here One is plugged in by your router .....the other in the "shed" It uses the mains cable to transmit data. I have one that is both wireless and ethernet cable compatible.
2. No problem ....let us know how you get on. :)
3. Hi and welcome to ExTS Try this: 1 : open the file properties by right clicking on it > Properties 2: Then open the Security option and click on your user name. 3. now click on Edit. 4.: Then select "allow" by ticking the boxes to Full Control and all other options. Then click on OK. Now try deleting the file from the Desktop.
4. Hi Win 8 does have an auto defrag setting ....and this is usually "On" by default. However - 2 weeks is hardly any time at all so this would not kill your drive I don't think. I would return it for a refund / exchange. If asked you can always say that "Auto-Defrag" was turned off. I doubt that this is the cause of your drive failing anyway. I am sure that the software is intelligent enough to realise that the drive is SSD and not defrag it anyway. I would need to check this.
5. Eventually ?? This doesn't sound good. What happens before the crash? Does the laptop restart or just freeze ? If the SSD is causing this there could be a short in it's circuitry.

7. Hi Try disconnecting the other drives [ data cables from the m/board ] .... and move the SSD connection on the Motherboard to one where the other drives were connected. At least you know that works. Try booting up again. I assume this is the SSD you are referring to ?
8. Hi, They are Molex connections ...as I thought. Yes ... you would need a Molex to pci 6 pin adapter. This would do it - click here You would need to make sure that the adapter would reach the Video Card. Are those cables tied in place ? Can they extend further into the case ? Yes - you need both.
9. Found this ... click here .... any help ? You may find this of interest - click here
10. Hi Ray I don't use Yahoo so this is a shot in the dark. Is there an option to click on Tools > View .....then select toolbars ? There should be a toolbar ( I think ) that allows you to use Bold etc I found this ....but can't check it out.
11. Sorry we couldn't be of more help - but I think you had a good idea what the problem may be. It isn't certain that the problem is as I described ....but it is a common fault. A decent tech should look at it for nothing and give you the benefit of an opinion.
12. I don't think there is a quick solution to this. If you could see feint graphics then I would suggest the backlight or inverter. This appears not to be the case. As you say ... I don't think it is a video card problem - I tend to agree with you ..... I suspect a connection problem. You say that you used to get small lines on screen .... then nothing. The cable that runs from the motherboard to the screen usually goes through the hinge. Sometimes this can wear and fray. The lines could be the result of some data getting through .... now he cable has gone worse .... so no data at all. I suggest that you ask a local tech to take a look at it .... and ask how much he is going to charge to a. say what he thinks is wrong b. repair the problem A small business normally gives better service than the pc Worlds etc
13. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) This should be running quite quickly. I am using a Chrome-based browser and this is running at 42MB Memory use - your 500 MB is high. Take a look here and post the logs - click here If anything shows up I will ask one of our security team to advise further. ======================= ALSO .... how much free disk space do you have ? [ also size of hard disk please ] Start > Computer > right click on C: > Properties
14. Hi and welcome to ExTS :) The video helps - thanks. If you move the screen backwards and forwards [ half closed to open beyond vertical ] quite a few times ...do you get any change on the screen at all ? If you look closely at the screen .... can you see any feint graphics in the background ?
15. Hi Win 8 is awkward to get into Safe Mode ....which is what I would like to try. The problem is it boots up far quicker than Win 7 and other OS. Try this: If you can get as far as the Login screen .... hold SHIFT down and click on Restart If you can't get this far try holding the SHIFT key down and tapping F8 about once per second --- you have to be quick doing this. It depends on the BIOS if this will work or not. You may have to try this a few times. If you can get into the Advanced Startup options try Last Known Good Configuration ...... or Safe Mode [ in that order ] Let me know how you get on.
16. Hi Please confirm that this is Win 8 Do you have a Win 8 full installation CD ? [ not recovery disks ] I assume from your info that this is a desktop machine ?
17. You win a brand new copy of ....................................................................................... SP1 for Win 7
18. Hi Hoggie, You need something like this if you don't have a PCI 6 pin connection. It uses 2 SATA connections from your PSU. There is a Molex version too if you have Molex connections. They cost around £5 If your OS is still XP you probably have Molex connections from your PSU. They look like this: Google ....pci 6 pin adapter Add SATA / Molex depending on what you need. You will need 2 spare connections for the adapter.
19. Hi Ray - does this help? ......click here There are a few "10 second videos" to watch. Make sure that you select the time scale that you want using the down arrow ...default "Last hour"
20. I think you may hold the record for the longest thread Bob :)
21. R45 or R40 ? I still think this may be a driver issue. I had another look .... nothing to download. Just links to HP and a reminder that the driver is embedded.
22. Hi Ray I wonder if this is your problem. Vista installs wrong drivers ... printer compatible but scanner isn't. We need to try to find R45 drivers to download Is your Vista 32 or 64 bit ? EDIT: another option ..... try Paper Scan FREE click here This will obviously be different from what you are used to ... but it may be a work-around for your problem. I have just installed this to test. It downloads OK - installs without additional junkware. It looks as if you will get a pop-up asking you if you wish to upgrade and a nag screen that may make you wait for progressively longer periods ..... but I can live with this :)
