1. No problem Ray - between us we got there :)
2. Hi Ray The manual for your device is here - click here - it may be useful Confirm please: Normally .... you see 2 devices 1. Control Panel > Scanners and Cameras. 2. Control-Panel > printers ......................or whatever it is in Vista :) Your printer software is working OK The scanner software isn't ............... is this correct ? I have looked for drivers to download and all I get is that they are embedded in Windows - I would have liked to try a different option.

4. Hi Ray I don't know if you tried this ... Right-click a text field - say the reply box here Select Spell-checker options Uncheck "Check the spelling text fields" - OR if it isn't checked ...put a check in the box. If you unchecked it shut Chrome down - then open it again. If the "Check the spelling text fields" is not checked ...change this. > Shut down Chrome and Open it up again.
5. Does this help - click here
6. I asked in the other thread ...which browser are you using Ray ? If we know - we may be able to find out if there is an option to enable spell check. For instance - Firefox ....click here
7. Hi Ray I don't use Sky or Yahoo Mail so I will be of little or no help with that. With Gmail you can import contacts. This is from the "Import" box that pops up : You need to save or export your address book [ Yahoo ] and save as CSV file format. Then open the Gmail account. On the left hand side ( top ) there is a red Gmail .........click the down arrow next to this. Click on Contacts > Import contacts Browse to the CSV file that you created and import. Hopefully this will, at least, answer this part of your question
8. Hi Bob Before we finish ... Just check that you have your A-V and Firewall turned on. [ I know we had these on and off a few times ] I suggest that you create a Restore Point - assuming that the system is running normally. Start > right click "Computer" > Properties Left side ......click on "System protection" > Create Give it a name > Click "Create" Now that you have Bob2 as a user ..... I suggest that you log on as Bob2 and backup the registry onto the Desktop as you did with your main account. Start > type in .....regedit .....ENTER Click on File > Export In the "Save In" box ...select the Desktop as the location Give it a name [ regbackup ] and click "Save" You will now have a backup on the Desktop of both accounts ............. just in case :)
9. Bob You are very welcome :) I am only sorry that we had to call it a day. I don't like being beaten by a machine !!
10. Hi Ray This sounds as if you had Automatic Updates enabled still. Did you get the option of selecting them for download after "Choose your Windows Update Setting" was changed ?
11. Hi again Randy Thanks for the additional info. Bob is reluctant to re-install as he has software on his system that he needs - but no way of re-installing that. This is why we have persevered for so long. It looks as if we have come to a dead end - and nowhere to go :)
12. As Randy says - this could be malware. Something to try : Open IE click Tools>Internet options>Connections>LAN settings If "Use a Proxy Server .." is checked ......uncheck it. Click OK If it is already checked .... and "Automatically Detect Settings" is checked .....uncheck this .....click OK If no change - go back and put a check against "Automatically Detect Settings" If it is still a problem download Malwarebytes from here - click here You want the FREE version Read each page as you install - there may be some additional stuff that you will not want. [ I have not installed MBAM for some time now - so not sure :) ] Please read this from Starbuck - click here Just the bit related to MBAM for the moment. A log will be produced. Copy this and post it here please.
13. Hi Randy We have tried that. Bob has this on his desktop already. This thread is 275 posts and I think we have tried everything that I could think of and some that I got off the net. :) I have run out of ideas now. :(
14. Hi Bob No - no snow here on Wirral :) If all is OK you could try installing SP1 one last time from the Desktop. The .bat registry reset was a last resort - which I said earlier that I was reluctant to try. If the SP1 install does not work this time ( and I will not hold my breath ) then I cannot think of anything else to try. The only other way to get SP1 on your machine would be a complete re-install. [ I know you don't wish to do this :) ]
15. Are you having problems - or does it seem to be OK now ?
16. This is good to hear. :)
17. I am out for an hour or so Bob .....back soon :)
18. I will mark this one as "Solved" :)
19. Hi Bob Take the disk out of the drive. Shut down normally and try a re-start. The System Restore would have reverted your system settings [ registry ] to the date prior to the .bat "fix" Hopefully it will boot up normally now.
20. I will be here all morning Bob .....check back regularly. :)
21. Which browser are you using Ray ?
22. I got your Blue Screen image. Please confirm that you cannot access the Advanced Startup Options any more. [ by tapping F8 once per second after switching on ] If you CANNOT access the Advanced Startup please try the following: Put the Win7 disc that you have in your optical-drive, switch off - and restart to boot from the DVD. Watch for the “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD” message. On the "Install Windows" screen, make the appropriate selections for language, time, and keyboard, and then click “Next”. On the next screen, click “Repair Your Computer”. Do NOT click "Install now" Click “Next”. The “System Recovery Options” screen shown below will open. 6. Select System Restore Select a date that is before we tried the .bat file fix - so before the 27th Let me know how you get on.
23. Thanks for the Speccy data - all normal. You may well have fixed it :)
24. I can understand why you don't wish to make changes to the Registry. If you are happy doing this - no problem.
25. Hi Bob We are going to have to try restoring the registry backup that we made. Boot up in Safe Mode using you BF2010 account. Start ....type in ....regedit .....ENTER Click on File > Import > Desktop Scroll down to "Registrybackup" and click on it to highlight. Now click Open. This should install the backup. Hopefully everything will be back to normal. Try re-booting normally.
