Hi Bob Thanks for the photo showing SQL Server on your system. This utilises a database and can be removed. Your pic shows 6 instances of SQL - the earliest being 12 November 2014. This doesn't go back as far as your original problem but it is showing up in the error reports connected with EON. As you can't locate any instances of EON on your system let's remove SQL Server ( all 6 ) If it is needed by another piece of software it is easy enough to install again. Once you remove SQL Server - --- Disable A-Virus Disable Firewall Disable UAC - click here try the Desktop SP1 file again. If this doesn't work - try the Desktop SP1 file from Safe Mode. Don't forget to turn your AV / Firewall and UAC back on after you have tried to install SP1 ============= I am sure you said earlier that you tried to remove .net framework ...........did you do this ? Some installations need this to run properly. =============

RustyKnight is correct when he says that 32 GB is actually 29.7GB The explanation is - sort of - complicated. Computers do not "count" in tens and units as we do. They use the BINARY system - 1 and 0 ....or ON and OFF. Manufacturers use 1KB = 1,000 bytes A computer, on the other hand, reads 1KB as 1024 bytes [ this is 2 to the power 10 ] This is convenient for the computer. So when the manufacturer states .... 32 GB the computer - working in convenient BINARY numbers - sees it as 29.8 GB Both are "correct"- it is just that the computer registers it as less due to the fact that 1000 is seen as 1024 by the computer for this calculation. This is about as simple as I can make it :)

Hi again The 5.8 GB Partition ( Recovery Partition ) is there in case you ever need to re-install Windows. It will allow you to revert to factory conditions - in other words ...as it was when you took it out of the box for the first time. This is a big improvement. Your drive is not very big and you will have to be careful what you install / save to it. Photos and especially video take up a lot of space. You can get, quite cheaply, an external-hard-drive in an enclosure that you can save large files to. This connects to a USB port. You could use this to backup files and even the whole hard-drive if you wanted to. Let me know if you want more info on this. Try this too: Go back to Search Box and type in .....disk cleanup ...and click on .. "Clear Disk Space by Deleting Unnecessary Files" Windows will then calculate the amount of disk space you can recover. You need to put a tick in the boxes that you wish to remove. "Temporary Files" are just that .....temporary and not needed.

807 MB is not a lot as you said. Try this: Open the Search Box again and type in ..................disk space ....ENTER This should tell you where the majority of your disk space is being allocated. Is there anything there that stands out? [ Windows Key + D will take you back ]

Hi and welcome to ExTS From the specs that I found ...this machine only has a 32GB hard-drive. Do you have McAfee Anti-Virus on this system ? ( the specs I found suggested that it came with McAfee installed ) Point the screen curser to the top right corner > in the Search Box type in ...... C: .....hit ENTER [ that is C and a Colon ] Right click on C: > Properties Let me know what it says against Capacity .....Used Space ......Free Space . In GB please.

That's true Bob - it is a very common problem ......with very few answers. I will see if I can find that E-ON software ...it must be on the net somewhere. I don't understand why I can't find it on the E-ON site ???? I found a bit more info: Do you have SQL Server Express on your system? [ Revo should show this ] Do Not uninstall it yet please.
-
Hi Bob I don't think there is a need to buy the Pro version of Revo .........unless you particularly want it that is :) I will have another look for the EON software. EDIT: found this on the E-ON site If it isn't showing then it must be remnants causing the problem. We need to re-install and remove with Revo.
-
And to you Bob :) I don't suppose EnergyFit is showing up in Programs and Features is it ? You may have had it on your system at one time and removed it - it could have left remnants behind. Try installing the software again then use Revo Uninstaller to remove the lot. I have looked for a download with no luck ....It seems that the software came on a CD with the monitoring hardware. Do you have this ?
-
Have you turned the Updates back on ? ============================ That does seem to be a common factor ....just that the times are slightly out. Let's see if we can get rid of the EON software. Do you have Revo Uninstaller ? If not - get it from here - click here You will need to scroll down for the FREE option. Install it and run it. It will show all installed software - EON should be there. Click on it to highlight. In the toolbar at the top select "Uninstall" Then select "Advanced" [ Moderate is the default ] You will be prompted to OK the registry entries. I have never had a problem with this - so have a quick look through ....it should be OK to remove all. Let's hope that this does it :)

Happy New Year to you and your family Bob. I hope it is a good one for you. A very Happy New Year to all :)
-
I am using v10.1 There is a new version just released v10.2 You can get it from here - click here You want the FREE version. It will not show in My Computer only in Disk Management or on EaseUs. You say that you used the cloned drive and booted up in another system ? You were very lucky - XP does not normally like doing this ...........driver problems. If you are using the disk in a new machine you will just want to re-claim the unallocated space and the Recovery Partition. ?

Wired Internet Connection Issues

Ray may be on to something here. If you are using a LAN to LAN network you will need to disable the DHCP Also check the IP Address on the second router - this needs to be different from the Sky one. example - Sky = 192.168.0.1 The Netgear should be 192.168.0.2 [ at least the last digit should be different from the Sky last digit ] To check this: ( on a computer connected to the Sky hub ) Start > type in .....cmd .... [ do not hit ENTER ] you will see cmd.exe top left of screen Right click on this > click on "Run as Administrator" At the command prompt type ..... ipconfig /all .....ENTER ( there is a space before /all ) Look down the list for "Default Gateway" Make a note of this. On the Netgear Router In the system tray, right-click on the network connection icon and select Open Network and Sharing Center. If your computer is hardwired to the router, click Local Area Connection. Click Details. Your router IP address will appear next to IPv4 Default Gateway. Make a note of this Let us know the two IP Addresses please. You may find this useful - click here -
Hi Bob We should have turned the Windows Update Service off - [ net stop wuauserv ] I don't understand how.you got 10 updates When you did this - did you get confirmation that the service had been stopped ? I wanted to try installing SP1 from the downloaded file on your Desktop without the updates kicking in. ======================= The problem with duplicate files is - some of them may actually be needed. Take a look here - click here This gets a bit confusing in the reading ....but the gist is some of them may be needed. You can identify them with CCleaner - but deciding what to remove and what to leave could be a headache. My suggestion - leave them. I doubt that they will be taking up too much space - and they certainly will not be slowing your system down.

Wired Internet Connection Issues

Hi and welcome to ExTS 1. Do you have any connection troubles if you connect direct to the Sky hub using cable ? 2. Can your brother / parents connect to the Netgear router ( wired ) with no problems ? 3. How many devices are using the network ? 4. Use this link - click here - [ wait for the green "Start" button to appear ] and do a speed test ( wired ) from both the Netgear and Sky routers. Post the results please. Have your brother do the same. Also let me know what speed you should be getting. 5. The model number of the Netgear router may help. -
No problem with the "slow" reply :) Try swapping the RAM modules over and run on the one that has been out. If you get the same problem - this module is faulty. Open up EaseUs. You will see the partitions in text form and at the bottom there is a graphical display. You can use this to expand the C: into the Unallocated space. The Unallocated space MUST be next to the partition that you wish to expand. ( I don't think this will be the case at this point ) Don't do anything yet. A couple of questions: 1. This drive ( K: ...L: ....Unallocated ) do you wish to try to use this as a drive with the original XP on it ? In other words .... use this and do a Repair Install to get it working on another system. 2. Do you just want to use the drive as additional storage for photos videos etc. ? There is a "recovery" partition on it that will be of no use as it was originally installed on a different machine. 3. Is there anything on this drive that you particularly want a copy of ?

Hi Bob Are you saying that you started the SP1 install and after over an hour of going through the process - it failed ? Was it just hanging - or could you see activity ...the progress bar for instance. This seems to be a long time before failing. ================== Let's try something else: Stop the Windows Update Service Start > type in cmd > right click on cmd.exe that appears top left of screen. Now click on "Run as Administrator" At the command prompt type in .......net stop wuauserv .......hit ENTER [ space between each word ] This stops the Updater Service. Now delete the temporary Update Files Then Start > Computer > double click on C:\ Then double click on Windows > Software Distribution > Data Store Delete all of the files and folders here in Data Store. Now click on the arrow to go back to "Software Distribution" Double click on Download Delete all of the files / folders in the "Download" folder. Now try installing SP1 again from the file on your Desktop. If it succeeds or fails you will need to go back to an elevated command prompt and type in .......net start wuauserv ......hit ENTER This will start the Update Service again.

You can get it at any Chemist / Pharmacy Isopropyl Alcohol ( rubbing alcohol ) or you could use Methylated Spirit. Use a small quantity at a time on a cotton bud or soft cloth. -
Hi Bob This is the time that you ran MiniToolbox. We need to know what time you tried to install SP1 so that we can compare the error report with the SP1 failed install. Take the time off the bottom right corner of your screen. There are errors at 7-09 / 7-15 am Can you confirm that this was the time you were trying to install SP1 ? Why did you remove IE9 - ? We put this on not so long ago ?
-
I don't see any log Bob. ( no email either :( ) I didn't want you to try the process ( except installing SP1 again ) just to let me know what you had tried - if anything. MiniToolbox is now in my Signature :) Tick the box next to "Last 10 Events" and "Minidumps"

[Solved] MS Office 2007 recovery

You are welcome. I think you can install it 3 times before it is flagged up at M$ :) -
Good to hear that you got it fixed Tim :)
-
Yes Bob - you can extract it. Not sure that it will be of any use - but at least you will know what is on there :) Nothing lost Bob ....give it another go. Make a note of the exact time that you tried. ============== Did you try any of the following from your email ? Is this your error report ? Error: (12/24/2014 11:22:47 AM) (Source: Microsoft-Windows-WindowsUpdateClient) (User: NT AUTHORITY) Description: Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80004005: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (KB976932). Error code 0x80004005 This problem may occur if a file that the Windows Product Activation (WPA) requires is damaged or missing. This behavior occurs if one or both of the following conditions are true: A third-party backup utility or an antivirus program interferes with the installation of Windows XP. A file that WPA requires is manually modified. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you using any backup / restore software other then the windows7 backup utility? If yes then you need to open and change your schedule settings. If no, then go to control panel > action center > Backup and Restore > click on maintenance > Turn off backup messages. Yes, thats the case. Here's the resolution: Option 1 Windows 7 is hard coded to allow 14 filter drivers, but the following registry sets the limit to 8 by default. You can adjust the amount up to 14 or delete this key and it will be set to max of 14. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\MaxNumFilters Option 2 Remove some filter driver from nacp.cpl --> Chose network Properties --> Select and filter --> Uninstall **Note** Not all networking filters are listed under nacp.cpl, so application may need to be completely uninstalled (i.e. personal firewalls)

Hi Simon Good to see that you found a solution .....even before we had time to reply. :) This will, I am sure, be useful to others.

Hi Matt Hope the op went OK. Let us know how the new CPU goes. You will need to clean off the old paste from the heatsink if you are using this. Rubbing alcohol.
