  1. Hi Bob Don't worry Bob - email is fine :) The image that you sent me is here ( for reference ) - click here The content looks correct. I used an ISO of Win7 some time back and I have just compared the files on mine with yours - they are the same. So it looks as if we are good to go :) [ Make sure you label this DVD and keep it safe - it can be used to re-install the Operating System at some time in the future if necessary ] I am concerned about your photos. Can you please confirm that you do have a copy of these and the copies are NOT stored on the actual computer that we are working on ? Also - if you have documents on the computer that you don't want to lose please make a copy and store them on a DVD or Memory Stick.
  2. You still didn't answer the above. If you are getting an error message I would like to know what this is. If you are not getting an error message I would like to know how you were made aware that the AMD driver stopped working please.
  3. Hi It is a legitimate MS critical update. Have you installed it ?
  4. Hi What would make the AMD Display Driver stop working and then recover itself? Do you get an error message that gives you this information ? You didn't answer the above. ============= I am having no joy on the HP site trying to locate the drivers for your Video from what you have posted previously. I can find information on other sites but not HP !! Can you let HP Auto find your pc - click here You are looking for drivers - specifically the AMD one for 64 bit Windows 8 You need to let me know if the driver version is different from 13.351.1105.1005 I have found the driver version that you indicate here - click here And the one you list is the most recent. Let me know what you find.
  5. Hi Bob The pic that you sent me looks as if you have unpacked the ISO click here Is the original file still there ? Try right clicking on it if it is > is Burn to Disk an option ?
  6. Hi Bob I am sure that you would know if you had copies of the photos that you store on the computer. This is normally done using a DVD / Memory Stick / External Hard Drive / Internet based Cloud ( or similar ) It is generally done manually - it can be automatic - but you would know in either case. If you are unsure if you have backups, then it would be a good idea - if you cannot afford to lose the photos ( and files ) - to make a copy of the data that you value. I am not suggesting that we are going to lose it .....this is just a precaution :) Do you have an external hard drive that you can use ? This is probably the best as it will hold more. You can use DVDs if you wish. ( or a large Memory Stick ) It is always best to have a copy of important files off the computer just in case of problems.
  7. Hi Quirkie Do you get an error message that gives you this information ? In Device Manager ....what is listed when you click the > next to "Display Adapters" then right click on The AMD device > Properties > Driver > Driver Version [ Should be a series of numbers ] Is there a yellow exclamation mark against the AMD Device ?
  8. Hi Bob - yes you do need to burn it to DVD. You have downloaded a 32 bit image of Home Premium. Is this the exact same version of Win 7 that you have on your computer? [ This is important ] You should have the download file accessible in Downloads or possibly on the Desktop. Insert a DVD into the drive. Double click on the ISO icon from the download. It should be as simple as that. I suggest that if you are given the option to "Verify" then tick this box. ( This will check the burn and make sure it is OK ....you don't want a corrupt version of Win7 to work with :) ) Before we do anything else .... we need to make sure that you have a copy of all of your photos and any other files that you don't want to lose. Let me know how you get on burning the image. :) =========== Re. Win 8 I think you would get very frustrated with Win 8 ....it is very different from Win 7 Personally I prefer Win 7 ....I guess it is just what you get used to ( although I use Win 8.1 predominantly .... it is on this laptop :) )
  9. Hi Bob Nev has reminded me of another option ...... Digital River. This is a legitimate Microsoft download site. It is possible to download Win 7 with SP1 on it and use this to upgrade your present installation. Your installed software etc would be left intact. The process is not without its problems and is a little complex. Take a look here - click here and here - click here This would solve your problem re SP1 but I would only suggest this if you were completely happy with the process and the risks. ========== Bob, Do you have your photos and files backed up to an external drive? I would suggest that this is the first thing you should do if we are taking this any further :)
  10. It is not clear if you are running two Anti-Virus .... In Win 8.1 Defender is an Anti-Virus software. So is Avast. You should only have one AV running on your system. You should turn off Defender if you are still using Avast.
  11. Hi If you were upgrading the OS or repairing it ( not a full installation ) then Windows would probably remember the password. You can check if there is a password set by going into the router software. Open Internet Explorer and where you see http://www.******* at the top .....delete all of this then type in ..... 192.168.1.1 ...ENTER This should get you to the router login. The Login is probably ..... Admin The password is probably Admin or password Once inside .... look for "Wireless" or "General" [ all router software is different ] and see if you can locate the password. It will be there somewhere. If you cannot access the router software let me know the make and model number of your router. If you had to input a password originally I suspect that this is still the case. If your Login password is still Admin or password you may wish to change this. If you do then make sure that you pick one that you will remember otherwise you will not be able to get back into the software again.
  12. Hi Bob We certainly do not want to go down the re-install route for this one. If it is a "Recovery Disk" there is no option to try a Repair Install .....which is a pity. Did you try a System File Check with Starbuck ? ( sfc /scannow )
  13. Too true - it gets frustrating when I can't run my usual mile in 4 minutes anymore !! :)
  14. Hi Good to hear that you managed to get your files back :)
  15. Hi When you - or anybody else - first connects to your network ... do you ( they ) have to put in a network key ( password ) ? [ once you have connected, Windows remembers the password so that you don't have to log in again ] If you look on the router ... base / back or on top ..... does it give a password ? [ do not post this here :) ]
  16. There you go .....you can't help yourself !! :) :)
  17. Hi Bob I have only a very brief outline as to what you have tried so far from Starbuck. I understand that you had malware on your system - but that has now been sorted. If you can - can you tell me some of the things you have tried so that we do not go over old ground again ? Thanks. [ As I told you - I am away this afternoon for a few days. If I don't add to this by Monday please send me an email or PM :) ] NOTE TO OTHER MEMBERS - Please DO NOT add to this thread. I do not want to confuse the issue. This has been an on-going problem.
  18. Thanks Nev - I had a quiet day ....... and before Pete makes some barbed comment about age .... I quite enjoyed it :)
  19. That is good to hear Mike. What caused your problem in the first place ? No - it certainly wasn't a virus. I think it was a connection problem. If moving the SATA connection to another port solved the problem of your drive being recognised then it certainly was a connection problem or the specific SATA port that the drive was attached to initially was down. ( You don't say if you are using this particular port again ) Either way - you are up-and-running again :) Take Nev's advice and get any drivers that you need from the manufacturer's site. Device Manager will give you a good idea of what the OS is having problems with. ( yellow exclamation marks )
  20. Thanks Muhammad :)

  22. Hi Jim EDIT: I just replied as you were posting .... you don't need any further help with posting images :)
  23. Nice one Jim :) Proof, yet again, that perseverance pays off.
  24. Thanks Christian :)
