Unable to run Windows Update, whether automatic or manual, responds with error 80004002. Have Dell 580 with Windows 7 Homje Premium 64 bit. Fix It didn't work. Neither did Windows Update Diagnostic. Windows Update Agent Installer encountered "unrecoverable error". Windows Update Readiness Tool apparently installed but gave no response. Stopping and restarting Windows Update didn't work. Reinstalling Windows Update gave "unrecoverable error" message. Any advice would be appreciated. View this thread

Every single Windows 8 update since December 22, 2012 has failed to update. I go into control panel and check for updates and it lists multiple 30+ updates that are needed. Automatic update/install is turned on. I check the log and the status of every single update since 12/22/12 is "failed." The update code 80246008 is common. I have restarted my computer multiple times. Any suggestions? View this thread

Windows update keeps failing to install KB2758857 and KB2726535 throwing up error codes 8000FFFF and 9C57. I've tried Microsoft FixIt but still get the same error codes. I'd be grateful for some help :-) Many thanks in advance. View this thread

I have windows XP Service pack 3. I have 3 Identies on this machine. When I open windows update on my identy It goes to the page instructing me to click on link to download active x control. I recently worked on a notebook computer that had been infected with a version of Ransomware (AKA FBI Virus) I have removed this virus on many a computer in the past; however, when I completed the same removal process (A combination of PXE Malware Removal tools [Kaspersky, Norton, Webroot, TDSS Killer, PowerEraser, etc...] and manual removal [Locating randomly named .exe files) the computer seemed clean. I restarted it, ran updates, ran the original Anti Virus (Malwarebytes / Security Essentials.) programs reported 0 infected files. I put this in the hands of another technician who then brought in back to the client, connected it back to their network only to have it play random music and launch random programs on the computer. In summation; Are computers that have been added to a domain affected by malicious software in different, specific areas? If so, what areas? I only noticed that the malware entry added itself into the users "Roaming" folder. Aside from that, the malware seemed to infect identical to that of a non-domain connected machine. Are there tips from techs who have done many successful removals on domain machines that may be able to supply me with a guide? **** I have read other post, I would like to know if "Emsisoft Emergency Kit" and "HitmanPro" are legit. I am using win7 home premium sp1, i paid the damn fee! what is the soution I have gone to windows anytime update, Paid the upgrade (from home premium sp1 to professionnal) got the upgrade key, and got an error message about invalid key, what is the deal? I have entered the proper key (checked twice), my copy of win 7 is genuine. If the key was not for sp1 how did anytime update made the mistake? View this thread

I need to install HyperV on my Windows 8 Enterprise laptop, however I have found that I am unable to install any update or enable any windows feature. Hi there! I recently installed Norton 360 and I am having trouble starting up the Base Filtering Engine service in order to fix a Norton error. Everytime I try to start the BFE service, it displays "Error 5: Access is denied". I am logged in as Administrator but still no luck. Can you help me fix this problem? I also want to give you a bit more background info, it might help determine the problem. When I got the computer, it had the McAfee protection program preinstalled. It was activated but the time expired. I recently got a virus, (a variation of the FBI Moneypak virus), but I did a system restore, uninstalled McAfee, and installed the Norton 360. It removed the virus and everything is ok now. But, here is where it gets complicated. After installing Norton and removing the virus, Norton gives me the Error: 5013,3 alert, I went to the Norton support site and it gave me some instructions to correct the error. On the last instructions, I have to start the BFE service. I noticed that this was missing, and that McAfee still had its firewall and other componets running. It tried using the Microsoft Fit it Tool, but McAfee was preventing it from running. I found the McAfee removal tool and it removed all McAfee components. I ran the Firewall Fix it Tool once again and it installed the BFE service. But now I am getting the "Error 5: Access is Denied" everytime I want to start up the BFE service. Now I have gotten this alert before when I tried to do some updates, but I never really paid attention to it. I get error code 800F0904 when trying to download and install SP1 for Windows 7 Pro. The install hangs up at 1% every time. I have tried the following: Installing in a clean boot state Installing in safe mode (w/ networking) Disabling all virus software Disabling UAC & Firewall Downloading/Installing via the Microsoft Download Center Running troubleshooter for windows update Running the system update readiness tool When I download/install from the download center, it tries to install Windows Debugging Symbols (which I have installed several times, hoping that it might be the right thing, just disguised). I have not downloaded the .iso file, which might be my next step. Any advice would be appreciated...every other site I've been to has told me to take the steps above, which have not worked. Whenever I try to install KB2756872 the installation fails and the update is removed. Other updates applied at the same time also fail and are removed. KB2771431 is already applied.In order to allow other updates to go ahead I hid KB2756872. However, soon I found that other updates were failing- not all of them, but I presume some updates are dependent on KB2756872. My machine is a 2-month-old laptop on which the only applications are ones that I have applied one by one- I didn't move the system across from another machine, so there is no accumulation of bits and pieces of software that might get in the way (just what Lenovo puts on a new laptop). Just received scam phone call from someone stating that they were an Microsft technician and my computer was about to crash from a rampant virus. They had me verify my microsoft license ID by holding down the microsoft button and pressing rt. I forgot what I entered but they told me the correct ID that appeared. They then directed my to a site calledwww.ammyy.com and told me to click on the center button. I refused and asked for their number and they hung up. Did I already provide too much info? I installed MSE - it reports my comuter at risk, no virus protection. I thought that was what MSE was? If I also install AVG, the report comes up as all working. Do I need both and if not, how can I ensure I have virus protection? Thank you. View this thread

I am unable to update my Windows Vista (2008 HP dv6250 Pavillion Entertainment laptop). I tried to download and run the 2006 version of check for updates, but still get the same Error message: Windows Update 80080005 Please advise how to repair this function so I can be sure that my operating system receives Windows updates regularly, or as needed. Below is what my Malwarebytes is detecting and will not delete. I have used my Microsoft Essentials and the other Malware softeware from Microsoft and they don't detect it. As an intro, I had a problem not being able to restore/create a database on a external HDD, SQL server complaining it does not support sectors with size 3072. After some digging I understood that this could be due to SQL server not being able to read bytes per sector, and indeed "fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo h:" reports "Bytes Per Physical Sector : <Not Supported>" I had this update installed so I removed it and that added back, with no success. Note that it took some struggle to do this, as after installing/removing it Windows got "stuck" on "updating, no not shutdown" message for like 10-15 minutes so I manually turned it off and back on. And eventually remove/install the plugin one more time as it was not visible as installed/removed. Any way, the questions: 1. should the update fix the fsutil for the external drive? 2. how can I check if files were updates as under http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982018 each file appears 4 times, which version is the "correct" one and under which folder?
