System & Error Info: I am using Windows 8.1, 64-bit on a Dell XPS 13 laptop I got last August. The same two updates (KB3046002 and KB3000850) have been failing for months now. I ignored the failures at first, and whenever Windows Update told me there were more updates, I tried to download all. Every time, all other updates except these two "Important" updates would install without problem. When they fail, and I click where it says it failed, errors 80070003 and 80070002. Attempted Solutions: 1. I downloaded the Windows Update Troubleshooter, ran it, and tried the download again, with the same failure and error codes. 2. I looked up the updates, and it said KB3000850 was issued in May 2014, and KB3046002 in November 2014. It also said there were pre-requisite updates for the Nov one, that I could not find in my installed updates, but they are not being found by Windows Update. 3. I followed the instructions on Antivirus Software:[/b]I have AVG Antivirus Free version installed, and it is up to date. Another Antivirus software/ad came on my computer, but I deleted it with other bloatware immediately after the first startup. Dell currently offers McAfee LiveSafe with its current XPS laptops, and it sounds a bit familiar, so I think that was the one mine came with. So ive been downloading for so long this updates and i thought it was finished until it says that it was currently installing other updates... I have recently started to receive the following erro messages: "svchost.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost" then "svchost.exe - Application Error The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occured in the application at location 0x7c812fd3" and "the instruction at "0x781705d0" referenced memory at 0x00000013" The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program, Click CANCEL to debugthe program". These message come up at various times and there appears to be no pattern to it. My windows defender is off, it was working a couple of days ago and it was completely fine, but now it's saying it's off. this is what comes up when i try and turn it on, please can someone help me, i can't afford to not have it on and then i get loads of virus' so please, i will do anything for this to work again View this thread

Attempting to update gives me this error: WindowsUpdate_80073712 I ran the System Update Readiness Tool, after that it still fails to update. I just ran AdwCleaner. Here is a link to OneDrive with those logs: http://1drv.ms/1Bz5dQ0 I have also tried to repair Windows using Installation DVD. That fails and only leads to the blue screen warning. Hello MS Community, Please can anyone let me know if they are having the same problems as I am experiencing, and if there is a fix? Since a Windows Update in the first half of May my laptop(s) are constantly dipping in to the internet and hard disk. I know it is accessing the internet, as when I turn wireless off the activity ceases. Concerned about what is being transmitted and hard disk wear. I am fully virus protected and have run a few malware scans, but nothing comes up. I have got 2 laptops being affected by this. I am not a technical person so don't know where to start, apart from pay some exorbitant amount to PC World to fix it! Please can anyone shed some light on this. Thanks in advance. "Files can't be uploaded to your OneDrive because there's a problem with a folder name." New machine, new Windows. For unknown reason OneDrive freshly installed by Windows Update does not like any file with '...' prefacing filename (e.g., '... go!.docx'). Even stranger, right clicking OneDrive changes it to SkyDrive until next boot. At same time, after OneDrive changes to SkyDrive, then sfc /scannow finds corrupt data store - on brand new Windows machine! My community has been using AutorunGuard for several years, and we've found it very useful protection against possible malware coming in from shared pen drives. Until now, we've been using Avira, but now we wish to switch to Emsisoft Antimalware. The Read Me files that we have about AutorunGuard give a few command lines that you can paste into the program, if you want to switch to AVG etc, but they don't give one for Emsisoft. Received a windows auto update. Next time turning on computer got "startup" failure message It tried to troubleshoot problem, could not. Went to system restore. This process repeated twice more and then I got on. Received another windows auto updated (16 items) and all went well. Received another single update item and the whole process repeated itself. I thought I should update my computer and I receieved the following message Windows Backup failed while determining libraries location of one of the users included in backup. Details: BitLocker Drive Encryption cannot be used because critical BitLocker system files are missing or corrupted. Use Windows Startup Repair to restore these files to your computer. This just takes me back to where I was/am with the updates. How do I recover missing or corrupted files? Are there any ideas as to what I should do? Here is the thing, The security of windows 8.1 is really bad.. When I try to update the Virus and spyware, I get "Virus and spyware definitions could not be updated." Windows 8.1 is what I am running 32byte. I do not have any other virus protection on my computer now or ever. I have been trying to resolve this for the last couple of days. Initially, I wasn't even able to open Windows Defender but after reviewing a few forums that was taken care of. WD is set to Automatic. When I go to Action Center to try and turn them on, I get the revolving circle then the system folders OS (C:) pops up. DRVSTORE is in blue instead of black like all the others. I tried re-enable Windows Defender simply by typing in the command line: sc start WinDefend Enable." I ran a SFC and errors were found but unable to take ownership of the files to change...kept getting an error. Here are some of the filed corrupted: "utc.app.json" , "telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json" , "Amd64CNBJ2530.DPB" Ii just cant seem to fix it. I am at a loss. Please help. View this thread

Hello: I'm not clever enough to figure out why Windows Defender is not scanning all my files. i have Windows 8.1 on my H.P. Envy Touch Smart m6 Sleek book. When I try to do a custom scan it does not allow me to. When I do a full scan,it only scans about 64,700 files and sometimes less. I download Microsoft's safety scanner and it scanned for a little over 3 hours and caught 1 Trojan. That helped but it didn't change the way Windows Defender runs. I would appreciate it if anyone knows or has an idea as to what I should do, in order to get Windows Defender running properly. There is also an error code when I manually check for updates. it is for Windows Defender however I failed to write it down. I would appreciate any advice as to what I should do in order to get Windows Defender running as it should. This started to pop up a week ago yet when I press ok Internet explorer will open but says "page cant be displayed". It has stopped me from doing anything on my computer because now other apps say they can't connect to the http server. Please if anyone knows how to fix this please leave suggestions below. Does anyone here know how to remove Kingsoft Antivirus software? It downloaded on to my pc without my knowledge. Because it is in Chinese I cannot uninstall it as I don't know which buttons to press.
