  1. Apparently the update I ran this morning corrupted the registry and disabled my keyboard and touchpad. Has anyone else discovered the fix for this? Toshiba's tech support line wanted to charge me $100 to fix the issue, which seems like extortion since this is because of an update that's unavoidable. View this thread
  2. This update keeps failing with the given error. I have tried running the Windows Update fixer and renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder, both to no avail. What else can I try? View this thread
  3. Windows update in Windows 7 keeps telling me updates are ready to install that are already installed. How can I reset Windows update so updates seen as successfully installed in update history are no longer listed as necessary updates to repeatedly download and install? Thank-you. View this thread
  4. PC: HP G5350uk Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1 My PC is set to sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity. I have recently downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials and have noticed that if the PC is sleeping then Security Essentials stops working and doesn't restart until I 'wake' the PC. Is there any way to prevent this from happening - apart from removing the sleep settings. I ask because it seems to me that if the PC isn't inactive (because it's running something) then it shouldn't go to sleep? Thanks for your help. Charlie Simpson View this thread
  5. This may seem trivial, and might just be my OCD kicking in, but yesterday I noticed TrustedInstaller ran in the morning and did a check for updates, and then it just stayed in Task manager most of the day, using no CPU or ram or anything really, just sitting at 900 kb. Thing is, it never does this. I'm completely updated (using Windows 7 desktop), so I restarted yesterday afternoon and it was gone for the rest of the day, until waking the computer from sleep this morning it ran again and now is just sitting in task manager, again doing nothing I think. It did another check for updates this morning, found none, so why is it running? I have 1 "important" update from January that's been there, the Framework kb2901983 update that's not really necessary and I don't think would start causing this problem since it's been there since January. Also have some optional updates, again, from past few months, although one is recent, May 15th, a Windows 7 update that I guess isn't important. So why is it running if it's not installing anything? Will it go away eventually? Usually if that's running, rundll32 is running too, but it's not. So again, is this nothing to worry about? View this thread

  8. Hi all, My dad's laptop has acted funny for a few months. To give a a few example: typing "h" would produce "h6", typing "p" would produce "p ", and hitting space key would produce "p- ". This problem happens when using web browsers (IE, Chrome, Firefox) and Office Word. I have worked with a malware specialist to try to resolve this issue, but with no luck. He suggested that the problem that my dad's pc has experienced may have something to do with multi-byte languages such as Chinese package that's installed on his pc. Please find the logs from MBAM, OTL, Security Check, ADWCleaner, TDSS Killer, and Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit BETA from the link below. http://gladiator-antivirus.com/forum/index.php?s=fe887bd4919b957baaad67cd73457499&showtopic=131904 Thanks! 10. Ok, so this is new. Since I bought this computer and started using Windows 8, I have had nothing but issues with updates. Now with this latest batch of updates computer has crashed 3 times today. When I try to use the F1 shortcut to safe mode to stop it. The computer goes into a repair mode for an hour. At first I was getting the fatal error c000003a applying update operation 391 of 140637 (cdd.dll) after a repair it changed to c0000034 error. I currently have about 30 important installs waiting and over 100 optional installs waiting because I have to install 1 at a time. I say about 95% of the time the installs fail and am getting VERY upset. I spend about 4 hours a weekend trying to install a random update. I know you will tell me to reinstall windows 8... To bad, I can't because there was no disk with the laptop. Good job Lenovo... So I am guessing I have a $2000 paperweight and have to spend $500 on a worthless program???? NO THANKS... What the hell can I do? FYI I have been waiting 4 hours for windows to come up and I don't expect it to. View this thread

  17. Severity Rating: Critical Revision Note: V2.0 (May 21, 2015): Bulletin revised to announce the availability of a new update (3065979) that fixes a known issue that some customers experienced after installing the 3045171 security update on all supported editions of Windows 7/Windows 2008 R2 and earlier systems. 18. Severity Rating: Important Revision Note: V2.0 (May 19, 2015): Bulletin revised to announce the release of the Microsoft Office for Mac 14.5.1 update. The release addresses a potential issue with Microsoft Outlook for Mac when customers install the Microsoft Office for Mac 14.5.0 update. Customers who have not already installed the 14.5.0 update should install the 14.5.1 update to be fully protected from this vulnerability. To avoid the possibility of future issues with Microsoft Outlook for Mac, Microsoft recommends that customers running Office for Mac software who have already successfully installed the 14.5.0 update also apply the 14.5.1 update even though they are already protected from this vulnerability. Customers running other Microsoft Office software do not need to take any action. See Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 3048688 for more information. Summary: This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office. The most severe of the vulnerabilities could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Microsoft Office file. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerabilities could run arbitrary code in the context of the current user. Customers whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than those who operate with administrative user rights. View this security bulletin

Summary: This security update resolves ASLR security feature bypasses in the JScript and VBScript scripting engines in Microsoft Windows. An attacker could use an ASLR bypass in conjunction with another vulnerability, such as a remote code execution vulnerability, that could take advantage of the ASLR bypass to run arbitrary code. For example, a remote code execution vulnerability that is blocked by ASLR could be exploited after a successful ASLR bypass. View this security bulletin
