my computer has been trying to do update 80073712, for the past month now, i have tried the system readiness tool and countless other things but nothing seems to work. plus hotfilx doesnt seem to update either now, please help. View this thread

I notice that lately, the last week, that the updates to MS Security Essentials are delayed or not made available by at least two days. I make a habit of checking for updates on a daily basis, sometimes more often, before I open my browser. The updates, up until lately, have usually happened at least twice a day. Yesterday Security Essentials had no update available since 1/19/20113. Finally, toward the end of the day, it updated to something from 1/20/2013. This morning, 1/22/2013, I received two new updates which bring the current update to one which was created on 1/21/2013 at 9:05AM. Usually I would have received an update from something that was created yesterday PM. I wonder if there is, in fact, now a lag in available updates and their delivery to be downloaded? I really appreciate having Security Essentials available. I have tried several of the third party security software and found them to be expensive, cumbersome and very intrusive on the system. Security Essentials does the best job in protecting my computer! Just curious about the apparent update delay. Thanks, Carter View this thread

Why does the safety scanner only partially remove Java Exploit CVE 2012-1723? I'm running Windows Vista HP, and get the report that "java exploit CVE-2012-1723 has been partially removed". How do I find and remove the rest of it? This is a continuing thing...it always gives the same report on subsequent scans. My machine is a Dell Desktop. View this thread

I keep having this nagging annoying error notification sound, but the is no error about what it is describing. This is what it says in the dialogue style notification box: "Windows can now play sounds from this device, click here for more information" However, my sound system is working well and I have no need to be told that it can now play sound. I had earlier brought to your notice that post-up-gradation to Windows 8, installed successfully, Windows 8 Updates repeatedly failed configuration, and the changes are reverted. I have not yet received satisfactory solution to this problem. View this thread

I'm trying to run windows update but I get a message saying "the task cannot be completed because the service is not running, you may need to restart your comnputer." Have been trying for sometime now to download and install the above Windows updates. Everytime they fail to download Failure code 8E5E03FB. Download goes to 11% then a failure notice appears. Have succesfully downloaded and installed 'Important' and 'Optional' updates since the 2 above updates failed. Have tried the Microsoft 'Fix it' plus installing one at a time but still no success. Have also tried turning off my Firewall and Anti Virus software both together and one at a time. Am using Windows 7 32 bit SP1 plus Norton 360. Would be grateful of any help. View this thread

when i try to run an update for my virus and spyware definitions it tells me there is an internet connectivity problem and it can't update (last update was in December as computer has not been used) because of an internet connectivity problem. I was offered from a web site an original copy of Windows XP Sp3 (they supposedly had 20 to 30 of them). I asked if it had a Certificate Of Authenticity (holographic thingee with s/n and key), and the response was the same.. "It's an original oem copy that will work on any brand of machine". Now, for $35 dollars, I may take the risk (I'd see the Statue Of Liberty raise her left hand for $35). My question.. if this is a cheap knock-off, illegal copy and I load it then go to Microsoft's Update site, will I be able to download Microsoft Security Essentials, Internet Explorer 8, and have access to all the Updates that those products require?
