I can no longer use Windows Update to keep any of my computers up-to-date. Windows Update troubleshooter claims to have fixed the problem on the desktop, but it persists. According to what I hve been able to find on the Microsoft websites, this error indicates that the currently downloading update file terminated prior to completion. I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop, Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) on my ASUS notebook, and Windows 7 Starter in my Lenovo netbook. None of them will update using Wundows update. Might this be an ISP-related issue? I can surf the web reasonably well most of the time. I am forced to use 3G or HSDPA in this locality. Is there a manual way to download and install update files? The offending program, Driver Manager, is a nasty one. It escapes system restore. Ok, use a backup from a day before it was installed, the bugger backdates the install date in the control panel. I missed that fact until after my system was restored. Also, it throws some "severe" Trojan that defender thankfully quarantined. I deleted it and I forget the name. I'm new to win 8 and the malicious software removal tool does not list win8 as supported, just Win 7 and earlier. View this thread

It took a long time to install, but it was successful. After following all the instructions, I got the same error, but for KB947821.Finally, I had ESET scan my hard disk. I have a Dell Studio laptop running Win7 64-bit on an I3 core that had a HDD failure. I have installed a new HDD and reinstalled to the factory setup using the system recovery disks. All is well except that the Windows Update refuses to run. I get the service not running message. I have tried everything I can find on this forum with no luck. Any more ideas out there? Hello I have had a problem with my comptuer ASUS almost since I bought it a year ago. Ive cleaned my OS and system with total reinstalls 3 times it keeps coming back but great news I have now narrowed it down to a net framework sercurity breach error 643 KB 2742592 finally put me in the right direction. I have been totally taken over by a rouge website. I visited I have had my farmework worked over....I just started gettin a handle on this. after I have found the nuemerous programs acellerators web browser microsoft updates and .........etc I have been trying to get help for my issue but havent had any luck with support so I've been reasearching for about a year all the while I have been comprimised by these criminals . I have even called support websites on the phone and received remote help from the criminals holly molly. Calling them crimnals is the nicest thing I can say about this experence. Help me I have a shot at winning. What do you need to know. I get no updates checkdisc and sfc scannow dosent help I have logs and logs of data help . I Dont have a firewall but it seems as though I've got defender on now. I have a Norton program that was put on by a remote helper from one of thiose redirected websites. While updating my Win 8 I received a notification that more was available. As it turned out the upgrade cost 9.99 and turned out to be just the Media Center. I could not find any other changes in my Win 9 Start menu, and other functions all performed the same as before. Unfortunately upon clicking the app the first time, it opened and highlighted on a little window showing my videos, but I did not get a cursor to use for selecting. By wiggling around the mouse and watching very closely, I can see some items on the screen slightly lighten up, and then can double click on that space and it expands the video list, but the only place that does anything else is when I can get the mouse over the X in the top right corner. How do I get a cursor? How do I back up? Or maybe the best question is how do I navigate around? I was finally able to get one of my videos to open but could not back out. I had to shut down the computer and restart in order to get back to the location where I saw the videos list the first time. This is rather awkward situation, and I suppose this program is designed to work with a touch screen, but I do not have one, and if that is the only solution, then I really don't need this upgrade at all. Any ideas how I can get a cursor so I can make selections easy? After reading a few of the FAQ's it looks like I should have seen a "setup" page, but I did not. Can that page be recalled now, or do I have to re-download the program again? Thanks for any help and or advice you can provide. Joel View this thread

I just purchased a copy of Win 8 Pro and I see that there is a process eating up 50% of my CPU. It's called 'Windows module installer worker'/TiWorker.exe. I've tried to run some updates in the hope that it will fix it (although why aren't the updates included in the Win 8 version I just downloaded today, I don't know). I cannot update anything. I am very frustrated as I've wasted 6+ hours of my weekend on this and while I was enthusiastic on switching to Win 8, it turns out it's such a complete waste of time. Incredible and if it wouldn't be midnight, I would be half way through installing Win 7 right now. View this thread

Just realized last evening this security update has been trying to install since 1/10 and always fails. Running Vista Ultimate, SP2, 32-bit edition. Believe this problem is also imapcting inability to print. Don't know what else to do. View this thread

My parent's computer has the Snap Do virus. I just uninstalled their Norton and installed MSE and ran the first scan, but it did not detect anything. What is my next step to removing this virus and any other problems that may be associated with it. I understand that it can open a hole through which hackers can gain access to their computer. I'm not sure what other information you need, but I know Snap Do is showing up only in Chrome. Regards, David View this thread

When several windows are open on taskbar, unable to close 'original' or extreme left window. Usually end up closing down to get rid of open window and starting over. Must be a better way. View this thread

my computer is saying : you maybe a victim of software counterfeiting,, then: this copy of windows did not pass genuine windows validation . its always on the screen with a blue star icon in bottom right, it was a genuine copy of windows and ive just got broadband before xmas if anyone can help or have any ideas would be greatful . thanks tonyQ View this thread

I keep getting that windows update symbel for the last 5 days. Update KB 276562-2393802-2724197 -windows vista KB 2679255. (total of 55kb). The installed update log says that these have been updated for the last 4 days. However, the update at close still shows and the sign still is in the bottom tray. How do I stop this madness? Hardware: Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop OS: Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2 Problem: Windows Update won't download the updates. The Windows Update window opens, it tells me I have 5 important updates and 5 optional updates, I click 'install updates' and the download process seems to start. The problem is that even though the activity bar shows has the green wave moving across it, the download never actually starts. The progress reports 0 KB and 0 Percent, and then just cycles forevers, eventually an Error Window pops up listing error code 80070570. I Googled than and located a Microsoft Fix It app for identifying and resolving problems with Windows Update, that I ran but still no joy. Please advise. Thanks much. Mark View this thread

For some reason KB2736416 will not install after it is downloaded. Also, McAfee Internet Security quit working after it tried to update (at about the same time). I contacted one of their techs and he finally said there was a problem with NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and to contact MS for help. I get error code 641 when the installation of KB2736416 fails. Also I downloaded an update yesterday for windows Defender that installed successfully. I was also running IOLO System Mechanic and it has been telling me that it is repairing hard drive errors for quite a while. Any help would be appreciated. View this thread
