I presume that MSE scans incoming emails and email attachments but how does one do a scan on a specific document or 'double check' by doing a scan on a specific email or email attachment? View this thread

my dell laptop has Vista 32,4g's of memory.Downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials 6 months ago,was working fine,then got the scan alert (mustard color) stating a scan has not been done in a while.It shows last scan on the 11th,even though I have a scan scheduled every sunday,I scanned the computer but I still have the alert icon. Hello, I have Microsoft Security Essentials, and am happy with it. But I don't understand how to use it in individual situations, such as downloading a program from a website. For example, there are trusted websites I download from but I would like to scan the program beforehand, and I don't know how to do it. Nothing I read seems to explain how to do so sufficiently. I do know, for example, that I need to right click on a flash drive to scan it with my antivirus, but I still don't get how to scan email attachements and software from the Internet. Second question: I received a scam email from "Fedex," which asked that I click a receipt in order to pick up a package. I opened the email itself because I was expecting a Fedex package, but I never clicked on the receipt. Should I worry about having a virus? I have run my scan and nothing appears to be infected, but that might not mean anything. I subsequently called Fedex and they confirmed it was a false email. Thanks View this thread

Updates for .NET Framework 4 (KB2736428 and KB2742595 show up in windows update. I install them, and the installation completes with no error messages. However, after a few days (or if I check on Windows Update immediately after the installation) they still appear as "Important Updates". I ran "Fix it" and it says it repaied problems in Windows Update, but the updates keep showing up. View this thread

My Windows and Macrium PE image backups fails. Hours & hours wasted.I tried Fix-it a few times - not successful - tho I could be wrong about that. I just don't know of a way to find out the reasons why. Microsoft says its a Windows Update error.I did a restore as far as I could go back and re-installed the latest 13 January updates.I was successful with a Windows image backup - I only think so is I put the security setting from one notch from bottom - to the bottom.But I have no idea if I just did a work-around. I next tried to do another image backup with Macriium PE which failed when nearly finished.The thing is I had put the security back up one notch again.I never had any backup up problems before with either backup programs.I would like to have some help to be able to verify the Windows Update error with file: 0x80070002 (3 for last digit - MS takes both into consideration.I will appreciate anyone's help to fix and verify the fix.I am not quite a beginner and do not have an advanced knowledge of computer.HP Pavilion Windows 7 Home Premium 64bitI have been using my internal hdrives for USB backups - using XP hard drives - have been doing this many times previous.I will appreciate anyone's help with this...sincerely101ron View this thread

I have found a problem with Windows 8 automatic updating. I have my PC set to receive updates automatically. I will be working in an app and it will stop responding, or I will be typing on my Bluetooth keyboard and it will stop working. If I look in Charms Settings>Power, I will see that there is an update waiting to be installed. If I restart and install the update, the app and or Bluetooth keyboard will work. There are several workers in my office that have a similar problems where a update in waiting will stop an app from working. An fixes out there? View this thread

On the MSE History page it shows several, all are "allowed" and one is quaranteened. Previously, whenever there were threats, there was a delete button to get rid of them, but not now. MSE recommends deleting them, and I want them gone, but trying to highlight and delete doesn't work. View this thread

I bought & installed "System Suite" for a general tune-up (no real problems before install). Within 48 hours of installation, I received a horrible virus that nearly crashed everything. The only way I was able to "fix" the problem (I am not computer savvy) was to find a restore point the day before the "System Suite" was added. Now that I am back up (though not as fast), should I do anything to get rid of the "System Suite," or leave well enough alone? I can't install the latest virus definition download on 1/15/13. It's 400mb and I get error code: 8009610. The update that keps failing to install is: KB23101.38 (Definition 1.143.35.0 This is important as my MSE scan has found malicious software related to java on my computer. I updated java yesterday and thought this was the end of it, but this evening after an 8.5gb MSE malicious software update download, the next full scan found a few malicious items and now I can't install the latest update. The automatic updater does not update. I have a Windows Vista Home Premium i bought in 2009, and it has worked great till about last year when it stopped updating.
