i have rtf files on dvd. windows 7 will not open them except in wordpad where they are filed with the non-readable ^&*%$ which make up the format instructions. this a a ridiculous problem, and there needs to be an answer provided by microsoft. View the thread

Have a Dell Dimension 8300 - I replaced the hard drive and installed Windows XP- Having a few problems , but the one difficult to understand is the automatic startup- After I turn the computer off (either by pressing the start switch or via windows Shut Down ) the next day the computer starts up on its own. Is there a picture limit with Photo Story 3 for Windows 7? An older version I used to use had a limit which I found out after spending 20 hours working on a project. The reader app in windows 8 does not open some PDFs. It think's the PDF may be corrupted however the PDF has opened in any other program I've tried. I've also tried on other win 8 machine and experience the same problem. The PDFs I am trying to open are screen captures generated by phantomjs. View the full article

Is there any plan on adding in more office themes to the office 2013. They are very bland and hurt my eyes after working on the computer for some time. After upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8, my main monitor has always been detected as the external monitor. I think this is because my computer was connected to an external monitor when I was upgrading. When I right click and try to change the main monitor from Screen Resolution, the check box is gray and does not allow me to click it. Data; Computer HP Pavilion dv9000 OS MS Vista Process; When I start up the computer it stopps after BIOS session and just give me blank black screen, with a marker in the left upper conner. As I don't have any recovery CD I can't do anything (software installed when I bougth the PC without any CD included). KB2789642 (Microsoft.Net Framework 4 on XP.....). will not install despite multiple attempts and return Error 0x643. This update came with another 9 on Feb 12 and all the others installed properly including KB2789613 also relating to Microsoft.Net framework 4. I am running Windows XP professional and IE8. Checks with McAfee and malware bytes did not detect any problems. Today I have re-installed mcafee. I have tried several of the solutions suggested in the forum to no avail.; . Also the repair option for Microsoft.net Framework 4 Client Profile did not work. Restoring the system to previous checkpoints did solve the problem either. I have not tried anything to do with modifying the registry as it is beyond my competence. Need to add that I may have had some file corruption problems as checkdisk was activated at boot time. Is this update critical to the safety of my system? Any suggestion as to what I can do? The following has resolved the problem: I have downloaded the Microsoft.Net Framework Repair tool (KB article: KB2698555) http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135&ppud=4 The troubleshooter works in several step and after the 3rd step, I was able install the update successfully. We can change a disk from MBR to GPT partition style as long as the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes. But in windows 7 system contains 2 partition one is hidden partition "System reserved " and another is for system i.e C drive So How can I covert MBR to GPT. View the thread

When it gets to "gathering information about your computer, it states "unable to download troubleshooters, please check your internet connection". Checked...was online. Have tried like 5 different times to get it going with no luck. I had it on my computer before I cleaned disk and defragged because of problems I was having with the troubleshooters. I am running Windows XP. Using Windows Pictures and Fax Viewer I want to email some pictures. However, when I right click on a picture to mail it and get the option "Send to" and choose "Mail recipient" I don't get a choice of which mail client to use. It just sends me to a login frame for Hotmail at https://login.live.com. I don't use Hotmail and I want to use my set default mail client, and I wonder why I am not being sent to that one by Windows? I usually connect to internet through out VPN connection at the college. Live tiles update when I connect but when I open an app such as Weather or News they say I'm offline. I have no problem when I connect directly to internet such as through sharing my cell phone internet connection. Solutions I tried but were not successful: Uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network" option. (I lost total internet access by doing this.) Start DNS Client service. Windows Vista - How do I move the buttons in the taskbar back to the left side of the taskbar? Someone used my computer and now they are on the right side and you can only see 2 programs at a time.
