Removing the font files from the folder doesn't help, the issues remain with IE10. From what I've read online, installing fonts is just a matter of copying font files to WindowsFonts. Is this correct? How to uninstall fonts? (I can't find any Windows 8 related help info on the MS website.) When copying over my font files into WindowsFonts, there's a notice about incompatible .PFB files... I simply selected "skip" for all of these, so I'm assuming they're not the problem. Also, I didn't overwrite any existing fonts--I selected "skip" for any duplicates. The other font files are Type 1, TrueType, and OpenType. Shouldn't these be OK to install? I'm looking for: Suggestions about how to proceed with installing my fonts so that IE10 doesn't get screwed up; And, information about how to uninstall fonts without having to do a system restore. Hello, I'm having some problems using the GDI+ BlurEffect on Windows 8, on both the 32 & 64 bit version. Everything works fine on Windows 7 or Vista but on Windows 8 when having a radius <20 the blur is only made horizontally, as soon as it increases to 20 or higher everything works as expected. This happens with both ApplyEffect & DrawImage, and I didn't test any other effects so I don't know if it's the only issue. One important note is that I use the GDI+ functions from C#, but as this works fine on Windows 7 I don't think this is very important. I checked this with a project I found on CodePlex, as it has similar code, and the issue is there too. I have a new Canon Pixma MG5320 multifunction. I am unable to get the setup to complete with out the "Network setup of the printer FAILED". Despite numerous attempts of: 1) Download driver from internet instead of the install CD. 2) Using msconfig with selective start up and all program except Microsoft disabled. 3) Created new administrator account and went through everything again. 4) Disabled firewalls and anti-virus The error is consistent and I never have the device created under Devices and Printers. The install occurs without any errors being flagged and you only see the error if you go into set-up details and look for it. The printer sees the computer when it searches and it responds. The printer and the Router both seem to be communicating correctly. The auto repair and troubleshooting programs I have run like fix-it do not detect any errors. The printer works correctly via USB cable. I do not want to continue using USB as that was why I wanted to go wireless. I am sure I am forgetting some of the things I have gone through in my attempts to get this operational. Anyone with ideas or know what is going on please help. Canon tech was very knowledgeable and says he sees this about once a month. He believes some program is interfering with the installation process. I do thank you in advance. Good day. Involved: Windows 8 Pro x64, Outlook 2013 x64, SSTP VPN with CHAP auth hosted by Windows Server 2008 R2 x64, mail hosted by Office 365 If I'm not connected to the VPN, outlook connects to o365 and works as expected. When I connect to the VPN, outlook drops the connection. I also have outlook.com mail set up with EAS, and it works as expected both on and off the VPN. After investigating the connection status in outlook (control-click on tray icon, connection status), I see that when it's working (not connected to the VPN), the connections for o365 have a proxy server (resolvable and pingable) and server name (not resolvable, not pingable, as expected). When I connect to the VPN, the connections disappear and reappear, but with blank proxy server fields and server name fields identical to what they were before connecting. I can request and get account autoconfiguration information when connected to the VPN... And I just realized that the DNS for the local network I'm testing it from matches the domain name for the email. Outlook probably thinks I'm connected to the internal network when I'm connected to the VPN. Is there any way to tell it I'm not on the internal network? View this thread

Is there anybody who have tried installing Windows Xp from Windows Vista op ... then back to Windows Vista? Originally we have old desktop with Windows Vista and for some reasons we need to reinstall the op. That time we can't find the windows vista cd, so we install our available XP. After 8 months 24hrs a day on...have problems again. Finally we found the windows cd and wants to install it back. Now I am afraid if I will reinstall the Windows Vista it will be rejected during registration and I will totally lost the XP. I recently sysprep'd my hard drive to move it to a newer PC, the installation went fine but Win 7 needs re-activating. However, I cannot use the activation key that came with the original installation disc, so I phoned the support number...Firstly, after I enter all the numbers I am asked if this copy of windows is installed on one PC (#1) or more than one (#2). It is a family pack allowing for 3 licences (and I have it installed on 3 machines) so I enter #1. I then get a message telling me that this copy of Win 7 cannot be installed on more than one machine (which isn't true) and the line goes dead. So I try again.On my second attempt, after entering all the numbers and saying it is only installed on one machine (yes, I had to lie to get past the automated system) I eventually get to speak to an adviser. The adviser told me there was a issue with the system and she couldn't do anything, I questioned further but apparently she can't understand me (yes, I phoned the UK number) due to my English accent.Where do I go from here? In start: Windows 8 Enterprise US on one PC, Windows 7 Prof Russian localized on another PC, bunch of ANSI-format TXT files with non-US language content (Cyrillic 1251) in folder on USB-flash. On Windows 7 PC Windows Explorer search field find russian words inside ANSI .txt files and showed (with citation) in results. On Windows 8 PC Windows Explorer find nothing when enter russian words in search field, on same files. When enter a numeral or latin string - on both machines search field work well. That was tested&checked: Install language pack and select Russian as locale for non-Unicode programs in language preferences - nothing. FINDSTR from command-line - nothing (same as in Windows 7 though) Select-String PS command - nothing (again same as in Windows 7) Enable 'Always use automatic language detection when indexing' in Group Policy - nothing Is there a way to teach Windows Search for non-system embedded language searches? I upgraded to W8 from XP and got a dual boot system with W7 and W8 as a result. After a while I needed to restore an image I made from W8 using Acronis and it turned out to be impossible. Whatever I do, Acronis will always rename drive C to F and that will be unbootable then (winload .exe misssing or corrupt). The old F is now C and has an older bootable version of W7 restored onto it, not the W8 i choose. I tried everything imaginable. Taking the C drive out, Downloaded a new default bios, Downloaded the latest Acronis software. The result is always the same. Now, my only other thought is that W8 wants to see XP present on the disk because that is where I upgraded it from. I would appreciate any help. View the full article

Hi everyone.. I'm using Windows 8 Enterprise x64 Build 9200, I found a problem when installing some or one system update from windows update, on my test I can apply all the Windows 8 security update, microsoft visual, virus definition, and all office update without problem. But I found some of the windows system update cause the modern apps can't be launch, i'm not sure which one of it. I have updated many of it and I left some system updates that I thought will cause this problem.. It just open the main page of the apps then it close again. It happened on all modern apps, firefox, and other normal desktop apps can't be opened without problem. Also it cause windows help executable(If I not wrong with the name) to be stopped and need to be close. I have run sfc /scannow and Windows does not detect any integrity violation. I've been having this problem for some time and finally looked into it this evening. I have a folder that I often write files too that never refreshes automatically without a manual refresh ("F5"). I had applied a fix to my XP computers at work a long time ago to help with DFS folders not refreshing and I found that this helped my problem in Win8. Here is the setup under which it occurred: Windows 8 64bit Enterprise The Downloads shell folder is redirected to a local hard drive called G: at G:Downloads. Note that G: is not a network drive - it is a local drive. And if it matters, G: is a mechanical hard drive (C: is a SSD). Open the Downloads folder on monitor 2. Start Notepad++ (third party text editor) on monitor 1 and create a file called test1.txt at G:Downloads. Even after waiting for 2 minutes, the new file test1.txt does not appear in the Downloads folder. I also re-sort the files by clicking on Date Modified twice and the new file still does not appear. Once I hit F5, the new file appears as expected in the Downloads folder. I applied the workaround indicated in NoSimpleNetIDList[/b] in a new key at HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer. Once I applied this workaround, new files appear automatically. I don't know what the side effects of this are in Windows 8, but if anyone knows, please let me know. It does appear though that this is a bug. I didn't see a category for Windows 8 bug reports on connect.microsoft.com and so I have not reported this there (I only saw a category for Win8 embedded).
