I have a HP Compaq dc5750 (like i always do for a year now), and I asked my dad to pre-order Simcity 2013. System comprises of windows 8 pro logging on to a windows sbs 2003 domain. This was working until this morning when after a reboot the user trying to logon only sees the little dotted circle animation. There doesn't appear to be any login happening. I have a 128 GB Microsoft Surface Pro (win 8 pro) with a 64 GB microSXDC card inserted. The card was formatted using NTFS with the Surface Pro and mounted as an NTFS folder I'm able to read/write to the card without issue, but the volume (or the mounted folder) does not appear inside Windows Backup for me to back the data up. I've also tried with the card mounted as a lettered drive (D:) with the same outcome. My WHS v1 server DOES seem to back the data up when it's mounted as an NTFS folder, but when I try to view the contents of that folder in the backup I'm informed I do not have the necessary rights. Despite the WHS Connector running successfully and many attempts to tweak the folder privileges, I've been unsuccessful at accessing the contents of the folder in the backup to verify WHS is in fact capturing the content. Has anyone discovered a way to accomplish the backup of your SD card in Windows 8 short of XCOPY or similar? Thank you in advance for your assistance. Ken View the full article

I have noticed I am not alone as many questions have been asked for some time now on the same issue. I ended up downloading ie9 from microsoft downloads and it installs in a diferent way to the windows update format, closing programs before loading. This did not work so I went back to ie8 and gave up. I had another go this morning and low and behold it worked, I installed a java update and a windows update kb2797052 and it still worked. I have a number of machines that the Windows + X key combo does not work on, and right clicking the start menu (On the bottom left) does not cause the menu to appear either. Okay, I've had this issue since I upgraded to W8 from 7 a couple months ago, and I've been getting by basically using 8 like 7 with an extra UI that doesn't work, but I thought I would post here to see if someone could help me figure this out. Like the title says, my windows 8 store app will not open. It reacts when I click it, but then doesn't do anything. Whenever I try to launch it, the event viewer shows an error "Activation of the app winstore_cw5n1h2txyewy!Windows.Store for the Windows.Launch contract was blocked because of a temporary issue with its license. Try launching the app again in a moment." Also, I seem to be missing the other Windows 8 apps (News, Mail, etc.) that I think are supposed to be installed on all systems by default. This is the only windows 8 computer I have worked with, so I'm not sure whether or not that's the case. I am also part of a domain (through my university), which I have seen might cause some issues sometimes. Hello, I'm a newbie to Windows 8, so please bear with me. I can log in to our company's Exchange 2010 server via Outlook Web Access on a new HP ElitePad 900, but once I'm in, a very basic task seems to be failing. In IE 8 or IE 9, when you double click on an email title, the email opens in a new Internet Explorer window. However, when I double tap the email title in either Metro mode or IE10 running in desktop mode (with the window minimized-i.e. not taking up the full screen), the web browser seems to infer that double tap means "zoom in to the current page a little bit." I'm guessing that part of the problem is that I don't know the Windows 8 touch UI very well. How do I open the current email in a new window? Or even a new tab? Thanks! View the full article
