  11. Hi, I know this sounds like a stupid question but I am stumped & hoping that perhaps there's something more required than simply entering somebody's personal email. I have a family member in Belgium who is on her deathbed, and her attorney called me to request I send him an email from my computer in order to fax or scan paperwork. He gave me the following email, & I called him back 3 times to make sure I got it right, for it kept coming back as "undeliverable"! *** Email address is removed for privacy *** (no caps) I tried it with www. & even different computers & browsers. I am 100% positive I got his email correctly but for whatever reason I am unable to send it from my desktop here in California. My email hasnt changed in 12 years: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. Does anybody have a clue about needing to use a special protocol to email from California to Belgium? thanks kindly, regards Alan View the thread

  15. I have notebooks with Windows XP Professional and Windows 7 Professional that are running 24x7 for months churning out heavy duty batch jobs daily, and there are no issues with those computers. No growing memory usage, no slowing down over time. I usually have to reboot only when Windows Updates require it. So they run fine for weeks and weeks without rebooting. However, when my notebook is Hibertated daily (when I go to bed and when I have to move from office to/from home), the performance of the PC will degrades over time. This is experienced on Windows 7 as well as the latest Windows 8 Pro. On my Windows 8 Pro, after a week or so of on/Hibernate cycles, the PC will become very slow, even though I am using only less than 70% of 8GB of RAM. It reaches the state where, even when there are no sustained hard disk access, the painting of Microsoft Office screens will take ages in slow motion. Below are two typical screen shots, rendering in progress and when it settled down, when I hit Alt-F R in Excel. The black rectangles are not redacted parts (the red ones are) but the screen painting in progress. They appear to correspond to the graphical icons in the final picture. Does Hibernation maintain full memory fidelity when I switch on the PC again? What can I do to make the PC not lose performance. Please don't suggest shut down instead of Hibernate. Thanks. 22. I have tried a couple fresh installs of windows 8 to resolve this but with no luck. After installing windows 8 and running windows update my raid 0 array in the disk optimize tool are showing correct (ssd) but can not optimize. I then install intel rst drivers (tried 3 versions) and my media type for my ssd raid 0 change to hard drive. I contacted intel support but they say its a windows 8 issue as Intel control center knows my c drive raid 0 is ssds. Is there a way to correct this or manually change the media type to ssd? 24. I have a Microsoft MN-500 Broadband Networking Wireless Base Station which ran well on my old PC which ran XP SP3. I now have a laptop running XP SP3 and when I try to use the wireless router, it says that there is a "compatability issue with this version of Windows even though it is the SP3 XP as my old PC. I can't find any solution on the Microsoft web sites. Any ideas? View this thread
  25. I Can't get Microsoft Update to install on Vista SP2 32bit I know this is an old chestnut here, so apologies if I've missed the proper fix... Windows Update is fully up to date after a Vista re-burn back to SP1 (and then half a gig of Win Updates). Unwisely I had re-installed and activated his Office pack too soon. So decided NOT to register for Micrsoft Update until later - just to limit the time downloading and installing updates Windows Update is now fully updated, BUT...Microsoft Update won't play ball. I've tried the following MS Fixit for I've found postings saying the WU Client needs to be re-installedbut found no downloadable package - just the Fixit as above. Others still have or have had the issue ([url="here) Looked at KB901539 (careful - it's Win XP)Checked Vista, and found equivalent components, just different names, but much the same thing (using the DLL properties)The manual steps went fine (probably duplicating part of MSFixit).Result - No fix Went to the MS Update Catalog websiteInstalled its ActiveX control, hoping that's it... NOPE Googled lots. It's still a fairly common problem It could be as simple as a registry boolean value...?? Decided this is the best forum in the hope that a kind MVP will help a mug trying to be a Good Samaritan. (Done quite a few systems in the last 10-15 years.) In a bit of a hurry - I want to hand it back done asap spilly View this thread
