Was läuft hier falsch? I am a wedding photographer and up to this week have used XP Pro. Due to a PC blow up I have had to get a new one with Windows 7 Pro on it. In XP I edited my pics in Nikon Picture Project then copied them to My Pictures. I could then change the final order they appeared in by left clicking and dragging. This does not work when I copy them to a Pictures folder in Windows 7 Pro, I cannot change the order they appear in, I need to do this before I burn them to CD/DVD to give to a client. It is a minor thing but causing me major problems. I would point out that I am nearly 70 years old and it took me several years to master XP, I do not have that much time to master Windows 7 so any help would be really appreciated. View the thread

I just got my first W8 hybrid in the form of Samsung Ativ Smart PC Pro XE700T1C. It's too early but I'm impressed already by the newly revamped OS. Indeed, it started to bring back the WOW in Windows. Nice work, I wish Microsoft continue to listen and innovate. Maybe it's nitpicking but I have this little wishlist. 1.) Option to make the tiles transparent in the Start screen so that they won't block the underlying wallpaper. I love those transparent widgets in my Android handle. 2.) Option to use a different image other than the natively-provided images as the wallpaper on the Start screen. 3.) Negotiate with Swype or Touchpal to bring any of the swiping keyboard across to W8. I love those keyboards. View the full article

I just got this new laptop, complete with Windows 8. Everything was fine until I realized after updating one night, the next time I used it, I got the BSOD, telling me "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart", then it shows a "system service exception". It wouldn't stop crashing, so I restored my computer to the original state (and started everything from scratch). A few days after that, I shut down & noticed that the computer was updating again, and sure enough, when I turned it back on, I got the BSOD again, and again. I didn't think the UPDATE could be the culprit, but it just cannot be anything else! This is crazy! I purchase a new laptop, complete with Windows 8, then as soon as I go online with it, it starts updating which just happens to screw up my new computer? Do I just refresh my computer again, clearing everything once more, and turn off the updates forever? Or is there something else I could do? Here are the details of the error report: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION C:WindowsMinidump10513-27768-01.dmp C:UsersNameAppDataLocalTempWER-71323-0.sysdata.xml C:WindowsMEMORY.DMP Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I have windows xp and when I turn it on it takes a while to start. Sometimes about 10 minutes before the icons appear. It also is slow shutting down. Once it is running there are no problems. Sometimes it does start right away. It could be a software problem. Is there a way to see what is slowing the startup and shutdown mode? Is there a way to fix it? Thanks. Harold View this thread

In order to run the application I have to right-click the application Icon (ex: Word) and when the menu window opens, I have to click the open tab to run the application. How do I correct this problem. I have tried configuring selective startup options, but this has not fixed the problem. View this thread

After I restored the system to an earlier date, I was able to use IE without any problems, however when the PC was shut down for the day it reinstalled the same 14 updates that caused the problem. I can use Google Chrome to access the net, but do not have my "Favorites" available. Frank View the thread

hey guys, first time poster here so sorry if I do something incorrectly. Ever since I upgraded from win7 to win8, I have had multiple explorer crashes when browsing my big folders/drives. It is quite annoying as it loses whatever file transfers are in progress. I have done various searches to no avail. I was hoping someone could please analyse the various dump files. https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=870F6AE76A12C73C!242&authkey=!AK8ZGdENIwYgajM https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=870F6AE76A12C73C!239&authkey=!ADKwyDo5IxmMTGY https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=870F6AE76A12C73C!240&authkey=!ANdpwD-95aY8A4Q https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=870F6AE76A12C73C!241&authkey=!AKU92toERQAHIfw Thanks in advance :) View the full article

I have a retail copy of windows 7 professional that was activated on another computer which I am dismantling and no longer going to use. Can I use that copy of windows in my new computer that is running windows 7 home premium oem (just installed new motherboard and it keeps asking for activation) without any problems? If possible am I going to have to do a clean install or can I use anytime upgrade? I am going to give my younger brother my old computer which he should be able to have rights to the oem license, is that assumption correct? From what I've read in the other questions and answers the oem cd key is locked to the computer and since I will be giving him most of the original computer (minus the memory and hard drive) this should work right? Hello, all. Loving Windows 8! I'm finding myself working in the Modern environment much more than I thought I would before I installed it full time after it went RTM. The issue I'm having with Outlook 2010 is this: Unless I'm working in the desktop environment at the time when new email arrives, there is no audible indication that a new email arrives. To sum up: When I'm working in the desktop environment, the email notification sound works fine when new email arrives. When I am in the modern environment working on an app or simply sitting in the Start screen, there is no email notification sound when new email arrives. Regards, Don View the full article

Hi everyone, I'm really stuck here with my HP dv7t-7200 laptop.. I'm running Windows 8 Pro (64-bit) & after a Windows Update reboot, I can't get to the start screen. The spinning balls continue for hours & hours. I know there's a recent restore point that I can restore to, but I'm having trouble accomplishing this.. My laptop has a RAID array, so I need to load the storage driver in order for the Windows Recovery Environment to be able to see the hard drives. I don't see any options for doing this, can someone please help..? Here's where I'm at step-by-step: 1) Boot from Windows 8 DVD 2) Choose "Repair this computer" 3) Choose "Troubleshoot" 4) Choose "Advanced Options" 5) Choose "System Restore" Step (5) gives an error message : "To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore" I believe this is occurring b/c Windows, as booted from DVD, can't see the logical hard drive. If I could figure out how to load the Intel storage driver from USB, I think Window-on-DVD would be able to find the restore point on my hard drive. In Windows 7 Recovery, there's an option to "Load drivers" during a repair operation. Where is this option in Windows 8? Here are further troubleshooting steps I tried, based on Internet search results: A) How do I mount the USB stick (which has the RAID driver for the laptop)? The following link is old, but the steps work. I stopped after step 6. Internet search : windows command prompt mount usb http://www.ehow.com/how_8541121_mount-usb-drives-windows-xp.html B) After navigating to the mounted USB drive & appropriate folder, how do I load the RAID driver for the laptop? The following link suggests to use pnputil.exe, but this program won't run in my Windows 8 DVD recovery environment command prompt. In any case, is it true that if & when I'm finally able to load the RAID driver, then DISKPART should be able to mount the drive & System Restore should see the Windows installation & offer to repair it? Internet search: load windows drivers from command prompt http://superuser.com/questions/531594/windows-how-to-install-driver-from-recovery-command-prompt Any help appreciated, Thanks, Brad View the full article

I got a new hard drive for my laptop a few months ago after my old one experienced "physical failure". Ever since then, a few things have been off. The one I want to fix most is the headphone issues. When I plug headphones into the jack, the little bubble pops up saying "You just plugged a device into the audio jack". However, sound still comes out of the speakers, and when I open up the playback devices window, it doesn't list the headphones even when I tell it to display disabled devices. The headphones work fine, I tested them on my roommates computer. View the thread

I get a blue screen error on startup. Windows tries to recover but sometimes it won't startup and a message is returned saying windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown. Early this a.m. I was using my computer and worked on 3 Word doc. I saved these docs on a USB(DataTraveler) and shut down the computer with this USB still in the port. About 20 min later I turned the computer on again and got that Blue Screen. Very shortly a message appeared saying windows could not start the computer then a message that recommended that I start in the Repair mode so I clicked on that. During the time that it was trying to do any repairs I got the message that I should let it start the computer in a previous time but in doing so any new programs would be gone or something similar to that. There is not always time to read all of the message and I did not memorize them. The last message said app that if the computer started successfully the problem had been resolved. The problem apparently was due to a bad section or sector of a disk. Fortunately the computer started as it normally does As I stated I had saved Word docs on a USB which was still attached to the computer. When I tried to open one of the docs, which had been writttened in Word Starter as I do not have Office, the computer could not open it until it downloaded some parts or data. After this download the doc opened and all appeared normal. Shortly Adobe put up a message saying that it needed to be updated. This update did take a while but there did not seem to be any problems. I took out the USB after clicking on the Safe to take out...... Now, app 5 hours later the computer started up the way that it usually does, of course a faster startup would always be better even when I am not in any hurry, and all seems fine. There is no problem opening up the Word docs or any other programs. I wonder how can I see why the repair was needed and what caused the problem? What dump or log do I look at and how do I read those logs? Will the problem happen again? That Blue Screen did not look good so how do I or what can I do to avoid seeing a Blue Screen or being notified that I need to start tis computer in Repair Mode? Well any help, and I've gotten great help from the Forums, would be appreciated. I have a HP G62-34OUS Notebook with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 10. For a while I was having problems with Explorer and Skydrive but things are working well now. Recently I did have a problem with Video not audio on using Hulu to stream an old tv show. The video stopped while the audio continued. However installing a new video drive seems to have helped. It hard to say because this was the second time that such a problem had occurred and the first time was app 2 months ago so we will have to see. I also have problems with a damaged library that does not seem to get fixed despite some good advice from the Forum however I work around this when using the Windows Media Player. all other programs work fine. Thanks, henry View the thread
