Hi, I made an .msp with OCT for Office 2013 and excluded Lync and Outlook. I also changed the shortcut to [startMenuFolder]programutbud but also kept the default shortcut. This works fine. Then I want to make another .msp for using later on where I want to add Lync and Outlook so I made a new .msp. The installation works fine and install both Lync and Outlook and under the shortcutfolder "Microsoft Office 2013" and “Programutbud” it looks fine but under my own shortcutfolder the icons for Lync and Outlook are blank. Does anyone have a solution to this problem Thanks Lotte View this thread

I am trying to switch from using a Local Account to a Microsoft Account on my recent reinstalled Windows 8 laptop. However, when I use the option 'Switch to a Microsoft account' and then enter my work email address I get the error: "This email address is associated with a primary Microsoft account. Please use that ID." I'm guessing that has happened because previously I'd associated my Domain Account with a Microsoft Account; this Domain Account has the Exchange mailbox with my work email address. The computer on which I'd done this failed and was unrecoverable, so I'm unable to check any settings. I've used the link https://account.live.com/ManageAssocIds and logged in with my personal Microsoft Account and checked that my work email address isn't associated with that, it isn't; and I don't have any other Microsoft accounts that I'm aware off. I've also tried logging in with my work email address at https://account.live.com/ but it tells me that the Microsoft Account doesn't exist. So what I need, to be able to use my work email address for a new Microsoft Account, is either: (a) Find out the details of the Primary Microsoft Account to which my work email address is associated or if that's not possible (b) have my work email address released/removed from it's association with a Primary Microsoft Account. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? View the full article

I have successfully set up this virtual machine and have 2 questions. 1 - I hate that you have to press CTRL-ALT-LEFT ARROW to free the cursor from the Virtual Machine's window. My wife has limited ability with her hands and I wondered if a function key could be used to replace that ? 2 - I can't figure a way on re-boot to start the virtual machine and CONNECT to it. On reboot I would like the Windows XP machine started, the window for the XP machine opened, and a program inside the XP machine to be started. Is this possible ? Thanks for any help. While we tried to Pick an existing certificate file from the file system through Choose Certificate in package manifest, we get "The certificate you selected is not valid for signing because it is either expired or has another issue error". The certificate which we attached is the one we got from the Symantec for implementing enterprise apps. View the full article

I am in Windows Update ****. I have been told that I have new updates to install, every day now for about a month, and these are always the same ones. Every time I start up my laptop the same message appear. Every time I updates and install the same updates only to have them appear the following day (or even the next time I turn on the PC) I am now waiting for Bill Murray to turn up and tell me that Groudhog Day it over! Below are the five updates, which as you can see are showing that they have been installed successfully. But I know I will have to do them again soon... Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 (KB2600217) Installation date: 02/01/2013 04:12 Installation status: Successful Update type: Recommended Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2487367) Installation date: 02/01/2013 04:05 Installation status: Successful Update type: Important Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2468871) Installation date: 02/01/2013 04:04 Installation status: Successful Update type: Recommended Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 (KB2656351) Installation date: 02/01/2013 03:55 Installation status: Successful Update type: Important Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2533523) Installation date: 02/01/2013 03:46 Installation status: Successful Update type: Recommended HELP..Please The time to install these is getting very silly. Hi, I've recently migrated my data (8,5Tb) from Windows Home Server v1 (Drive Extender) to Windows 8 Pro (Storage Spaces parity mode). The pool is made by 11x2Tb HDs and the Storage Space is 20Tb thin provisoned to ensure me a 8192 cluster size for further expasion. What I've noticed is that I have by now 2,5Gb of Non-Paged-Pool memory locked of my 16 Gb Ram installed! Using poolmon.exe I found that the non paged pool is allocated to a proces with TAG "SpBu" that it seems to be related to StorageSpaces driver?! It seems also that the more files I add to the SSpace the more non paged pool grows; btw, if I free space from the SSpace the non paged pool decreases. So, my question is: Is it a normal behaviour that Storage Spaces needs to allocate so mouch memory (2,5Gb for 8,5Tb of data in parity mode) or I have some other problem maybe related to my additional Promise controller driver? I'm having trouble getting my wifes laptop to display the proper "pictures" using the metro "pictures" application. Let me explain our setup. I have a desktop (my machine) with a dedicated media drive that holds all of our documents, pictures, videos, and music. On my machine I simply included those directories under the various "property" dialogs as additional "library locations". So on my machine when I pull up the pictures application it shows them just fine. Next, I shared those same media directories with everyone on the network so she could easily see them using explorer. Once she was given access I did the same thing on her laptop, included those shared folders under the various "property" dialogs as additional "library locations". Whenever she pulls up her documents or pictures in explorer she can see the extra "shared" locations just fine. The problem, however, is when she uses her metro style pictures application it doesn't seem to be including pictures from those additional locations. How can I get this to work so her pictures, documents, music, etc shows exactly the same way? Thanks! - jeff I wish I could program in theory. Everything works there. View the full article

There appears to be a growing crowd of users experiencing BSODs involving the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouses. I, for example, have the WMM4000 on a Vista 32 bit machine. If the receiver is unplugged, instant BSOD (IRQL-type error). Even then, on occasion, the laptop will just hit the same BSOD error on its own.Is there a definite answer for fixing these mice? I have 2 installs of Windows 8, one Pro, one Enterprise. I am having an issue setting the screensaver to display my photos. I get a message stating: There are no pictures in c:usersmy user namepictures. I have a bunch in there, and the photo app sees all my pictures too. If I chose a single sub folder under my pictures, the screensaver will work, but it will not work when the pictures(my pictures) folder is selected. Anybody experience this issue or found any kind of workaround? Randy Oster View the full article

I recently downloaded the Window Pro update to my Windows 7 laptop. I was not aware that Windows 8 would lock down my account. I am the only user of this computer so I never created a separate user account. Now when I attempt to open IE or many other applications, such as the 'Store', I get the 'Application Can't Open---Store can't be opened using 'built-in administrator account try logging on with a different account'. Well that would be fine except all my last two years of work are not available to any other account. Windows 8 turned my user account into a restricted admin. Is there a way to change this set of restrictions? Can I enable this account to have access like before? Richard Tamboli View the full article

Happy New Yera, Dear Microsoft Friends! When I attempt to save a film edited in Movie Maker 6 while using the "DV AVI PAL" save mode, my WMM keeps crashing. I am using VISTA business and I successfully saved a much smaller WMM file (High Quality VIDEO) without any crashing issues.I have lots of disk space and work memory. Why is this happening? Is there a simple fix? If so, please be so very kind as to explain in laymans terms--I'm not a computer whiz, unfortuantely. :-) If not, is ther a WMM version that supports Vista Business and supports a plug-in for color saturation. Any help is greatly appreciated! Have a nice day.Betty Botter View this thread

I have had a few problems while setting up with Windows 8 mainly with the wireless keyboard and mouse not working at all but some of this appears to be working at the moment ! My main issue now is that I have no keyboard or mouse during boot up which means I cannot access my bios at all or enter safe mode or other options. Once I get to the home screen/desktop the mouse and keyboard work again, I have tried a wired mouse and keyboard but it still does not work until I get to the start/desktop. Any idea why this is and how can I get to my bios or choose safe mode etc if I have no control ??? Also during boot, I am seeing a screen with a choice of windows 8 or Windows 7 XE which I do not have a clue what it is, there is no other operating system installed or should not be. Again as I have no control I cannot click on the Windows 7 XE logo to see what happens and I have to wait the 30 second countdown before the system automatically loads Windows 8. Where can I delete or find any reference to this Windows 7 XE thing, whatever it is. Thank You View the full article

This may be a bit of an obscure one, but hopefully someone else is running WSUS on their server and has the same issue.... I've upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and am having an issue with using a live user ID as my login. However, this is a slightly different issue from the normal one: I have WSUS installed on my WHS2011 (2008 R2) server and I finally managed to get the RSAT tools to install on my windows 8 client (I only have a couple of real clients, but use quite a few VMs as I am studying for Microsoft Certs, and I like to keep my VMs up to date!). However, the WSUS remote admin console won't connect from the Windows 8 Client to the WSUS on the server. I have saved a windows credential for my old local account so that file shares work, and they do work fine. When I check the security log on the server after trying to connect the WSUS console, it shows that the full live ID (my_name@hotmail.com) is being passed across as the user name, so this is why the connection is being blocked. I'm not really sure how to get around it. Of course, I can remote desktop into the server and administer WSUS that way, but it's nicer to be able to do it from my client PC. Please note that this is a Home Server so it's not a Domain environment! Any suggestions gratefully accepted. View the full article

windows 8 File location from start screen
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
Hi guys, How do I locate the actual file from the link in the start screen? For example, I just installed the netflix app. The big netflix logo now appears in the start screen and allows me to use netflix. However, I want to see whether the executed netflix program exe is digitally signed. To this end, I have to locate where the file is located and if there are multiple netflix files in my drive, WHICH of those files is pointed to by the link on the start screen. How do I find out? Thanks. View the full article -
I am trying to install MSXML 4.0 sp3 in Windows 8. It starts then stops with " An error occured during installation of assembly component {74974f83-779E-3983-A06B-D6B9ABF34537} HRESULT: 0x80073712 " Hunting on the MS web site I found there was a msxml4-KB2721691-enu for 64 bit versions. However this (even running as administrator) gave the same error I have spent days hunting for answer on the web so obviously it is not a common problem but has certainly cropped up a few times but with no answers Do I reinstall windows 8? Is there something to look for that might be missing? Is there a setting I have to make. While I am not computer trained I can find my way around and usually solve my own problems. However at 71 yrs and having made the move from XP to Win 8 with all ties cut, I am feeling a bit out of my depth here. Any help appreciated bussoz View the full article
