  5. I still have no wireless mouse or keyboard and no one seems to know how to fix it but I came across another problem today. I got the free serial number emailed to me from Microsoft and attempted to follow the instructions and download it. As mentioned I have no keyboard so using a wired mouse I cut and pasted the '"Add Features" into the search box as instructed. All I got in the settings tab is a box that enables me to turn Windows features on and off. There is nothing there at all about adding new features. How do I find the download so I can install it. I have never known an operating system as complicated and awkward to use and for a Microsoft keyboard and mouse not being recognised is ridiculous. Can anyone help with this issue or with my keyboard issue as well ! Thank You View the full article
  6. Please Help!! Needed to do a factory restore on my 10 year old Compaq Presario as it was so slow and lots of rubbish. Used the two Emachines Restore CDs that came with the computer from new. Now Windows XP Home Edition 2002 will not boot at all. Have tried all modes including Safe Mode. I would assume that now the registry is corrupt following the restore. The Windows Xp obviously came installed from new and have no windows set up disks to install. Can anyone help me to get the system up and running again or advise what cause of action is needed. Would assume that I will need to boot from CD/DVD drive so hoping there is a disk available. I have the original product key details on side of processor to validate legitate software. 10. I inserted a new CD into my PC and it came up correctly. I then copied it to my hard drive but couldn't get it to come up from that copy. I inserted the new CD into my PC again, but this time it wouldn't come up. I took the new CD to a second PC and it came up correctly. I then took an old CD and inserted it in the first PC and it came up correctly. In other words, the new CD and the first PC seem to be working correctly except when they are together. Another point: when I insert the new CD into the first PC, go to Windows Explorer and hit Computer/DVD drive, the area of the screen which should show the amount of disc space used and the amount still free, is blank. And a final point: when I insert the new CD into my PC, there can be heard the usual clicks but not the few seconds of whirring sound which often can be heard when a CD is 'warming up'. Can you help? 11. I moved my boot disk to a new motherboard and need to clean up errors. I have not been able to repair or install a new system from my original disk. I installed a 3rd party PCI to IDE 2 channel controller for the disk. There is no floppy or IDE interface on the new board. I installed the driver before moving the disk because it was the only way to get to the IDE boot drive. It works well except for the occasional freeze on the internet. I am sure I have some loose ends in the registery or possibly missing files. I updated my system from a Pentium III to i5-3550. Max memory on old board was 512 MB and new one now at 4 GB with room for 32 GB. Can I purchase a new Windows XP Pro installation disk at latest level, or is there a way around this problem? I have a downloaded SP3 disk which I used to update my system when SP3 was released. View this thread
  12. Starting this morning whenever I tried to sign in to Hotmail (IE 10 Desktop) the URL would flash between -- I think -- Hotmail.com and live.com and then tell me it encountered a problem and to try to login later. I verified that other sites requiring the same authentication (e.g. SkyDrive) didn't have this issue. (At this time the "Modern" IE 10 seemed to work fine but later on it began displaying the same behavior as the Desktop version). I fired up a new Windows 7 VM, IE 9, went to Hotmail and successfully logged in. Next I disabled all Start-up Addins for IE 10 Desktop but now when I try to login to Hotmail I get a 5050 answer: 50% of the time the application crashes, the other 50% of the time it asks me to logon later. I also tried logging into "live.com" instead of "Hotmail.com" and am getting the flashing URL bar again and the message "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in right now. Please try again later." Finally, I found that by running Desktop IE 10, as Administrator, my login was accepted. I was going to uninstallreinstall IE 10 but could not any such option. For what it is worth, Windows Defender did not find any issues. How can I determine the source of this issue? TIA, edm2 View the full article
  13. I get a message that says to insert a writable disk but it always spits it back out. Another thing when I check the available space on my E drive disc the diagram shows the whole disc is blue. It does not show any numbers indicating available space. I thought maybe there was a problem with my CD-R disc's so I bought some CD-RW disc's but it didn't make any difference. I have been using my DVD player to watch movies and play music I have recorded on disc's with no problems. I just don't understand why when I find songs on Frostwire I want to record that it ejects the disc when I tell it to burn the song. It didn't seem to matter if I was in the torrent section or the Library section on Frostwire. I'm very frustrated please help, thank you. View this thread

  16. I just purchased a new computer about a month ago. Everything is working fine hardware-wise. Within the past day I have been unable to use file explorer. I click on any folder on my desktop and in the taskbar it shows that the correct folder is open, but there is no display. I had the same problem with Google Chrome, but after a computer restart Chrome is working. I can click on any folder and none will display. When I hover over it, the small view of the folder is there. Can I receive some help with this problem. Thanks Itouchmaniac View the full article
  17. I found an old post from 2009 here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-desktop/my-display-icon-is-missing-from-my-control/c3a4d7c1-0149-4c41-bcbc-75ba11c6d99d I tried both of the suggestions described there, but neither one restored the Display Icon. I'm wondering if anyone has ny other suggestions on what to try. View this thread
  18. We have recently installed a Windows 8 Pro edition OS on one of our 64bits laptops, and the installation works great. Installation of programs have worked fine (such as Office and Opera webreader), but when installing latest versions of java (Version 7 Update 10), both 32 & 64, the installation stops and shows an error. We downloaded Java from the official site and the Windows 8 is activated with our valid key recieved via e-mail. Below roughly translated errormessage from google translate: "Can not open thisinstallation package. Verify that the package exists and that youhave access to the one, or contact the applicationvendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."- I run the installation as administrator. Does anyone know what this could be caused by? I have searched the web for two days without finding this out. Offcourse we open internet explorer from desktop mode and download it directly to desktop mode where we also try to install it from. Please reply here and/or send an e-mail to morten.austad@c2i.net if you would be so kind! This since I am helping someone else with this issue and will not be checking this thread on a daily basis. In advance, THANK YOU! View the full article
  19. Hello everyone, I recently installed Windows 8. I have some issue, but I'm not sure if it's a feature or a bug. When I minimize a tile, the sound from it is decreased immensely. For example, if I open IE10 from the app tile, and open a YouTube video and play it, when I switch the screen to something else, such as Desktop, the sound is decreased dramatically. The same happens even when I open Xbox music and switch out. Is there some way around this? Thanks What is a signature? View the full article
  20. I thought this might just be one PC, but am finding this problem on home, work and even my Surface RT. Sometimes when viewing web pages (or graphics in metro apps that use IE to display content like a newsreader) a graphic will be replaced or mangled with a what looks like green video noise, and sometimes part of the previously viewed graphic is part of it. It's hard to describe without seeing it, but it shows up on pages with lots of graphics boxes like news blogs (sites like a Buzzfeed or Google News). This is what happens: Its very very common, and I thought it might be video drivers (mostly use AMD), but when it happened on my Surface I found this to be more common than I thought. Is anyone else seeing this or have a fix? Curt Kessler - FLC View the full article

  24. While doing searches ie google... yahoo or any other search engine , I find an untold amount of old useless, information that is not needed, outdated, and completely useless. For example lists of addresses for stores that no longer exist. It would seem to me that all this needless information is taking up much space that could be detrimental to the World Wide Web .... Anyone know about this stuff? jim View this thread
  25. My system has a third party raid controller on which I have installed Windows 8. Everything works except recovery mode. When I run recovery mode I don't have any of the normal options I am used to seeing in safe mode. I have to load into System Image Recovery, add my RAID driver, and go back to the main recovery mode screen before it will detect my installation. It seems to be too late by then for any safe mode options to be displayed. In Linux I am accustomed to adding any needed third party drivers to the 'boot image' if I need them loaded before the kernel. Would adding the drivers to the Windows 8 install image also add them to the Windows boot image after install? Can the boot image be mounted and drivers added to it with dism? If not, how do I get the safe mode options? View the full article
