I have an app dll that refuses to register in Windows8. It worked fine in Windows7. Some users report it works OK on there system but most report the same error When we run regsvr32 to register the dll, it generates an error that says it was loaded ok but the call to DLLRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80004005. Research on this error says it corrected by running with elevated rights. We run the process as an Admin. We have tried opening CMD prompt as an Admin, turned off Windows Defender, disabled Windows Firewall and also tried doing it in Safe Mode. Every attempt always returns the same error code. I have tried multiple searches but all say just to run in an elevated mode. We do but it still fails. All searches indicate the error is an indicator of a security issue. Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this and how to correct it - Can you help me find the forum that would be appropriate for this info. The app ran fine in Win7, and survived an in-place upgrade to Win8. It seems to appear with new OS installs or when the registry is cleaned of any reference to the app and then an install is attempted. On XP sp3, Need to delete Outlook Express 6, cannot find it in Add/Delete. Even searched hidden folders. Cannot find it, Also tried in Programs, Accessories, etc. How can it be deleted so we can try a re-install.? I am having trouble with some of the features on windows 8. Although I have an O2 connection, I can access my email and google etc however on some of the windows 8 features it says that I am offline in the top right corner. I would like to know where I can find a driver to use my 'one touch x310e alcatel' internet key in my new tablet that is running WINDOWS 8. I have never been any problem using this internet usb key in my netbook, as my netbook runs windows xp. The internet key is compatible up to WINDOWS 7 32/64. Every time I successfully logged in to the Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, when I try to shut down or restart it won't work, but hibernate is working. I just reset my windows only, and after activated and installed windows update caused my shut down or restart totally not working. Tried Uncheck the box titled "Turn on fast startup (recommended). (NOT WORKING, still unable to shut down or restart) Tried "bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes" in command prompt using administrator won't work! Tried "shutdown.exe -s -t 0 " in command prompt also not working, after popup shutdown.exe, and display nothing :( Any other solution? I can't even shut down for few days, just using hibernate, and I don't want to refresh windows or reset windows again, due to I lazy to reinstall software + games again. I got Win8 Media Center and installed it fine and no problems on that score (with the exception of the fact that I think requiring a separate Key for it than is required for Win8 has made things idiotically complex. For instance, my present Media Center key expires 2/1/13 or so. What happens if I need to do another install of the OS after that date? It does not appear that Media Center will be able to follow me cleanly--and I *hope* Microsoft will be coughing up a key that works when I need it.) What was surprising about Win8 MC in a negative sense was the fact that certain Fox DVDs utilize a playback format that seems to require DVD playback through Media Player, which Windows 8 does not seem to provide even with the full-fledged Media Center installation. This would have been a cake-walk with Win7. I've had to install VLC on top of Media Center to get those DVDs to work (there was no DVD firmware/region issue, etc.) This seems a simple case of a codec Win8 Media Center doesn't have being found in a gnu-licensed share-ware/free-ware/open-source 22mb DVD player. VLC does a great job, though, I have to say, so in a sense I'm glad Microsoft forced me into that route. You think Microsoft is going to correct this in a future Win8 patch of some kind? Windows Backup does not complete successfully and I get the message "The system cannot find the file specified (0x 80070002)". Windows error procedures have not found the answer. MS Fixit files troubleshooter found that the location where Windows Update stores data has changed and must be repaired by changing WU locations to Windows default settings. I have Windows XP, and I haven't used it for quite a while. Today I tried to boot it up but I got stuck in the blue 'Microsoft Windows XP' screen. I have tried to boot it up in safe mode, no difference, still got the blue screen. I have tried to put a Windows 7 Disk so I can install Windows 7 on it, it didn't know how to get the menu up for the Windows Disk so I can start. Hello, I recently finished building my first computer. I mistakenly installed windows 8 and it has been a disaster. After finally getting it installed any time I tried to install a driver, or even just Google chrome, my computer will freeze. I had problems while installing updates after reinstalling windows. I used microsot update and rolled back the computer when I would loose functions from installing out of order. I have everything up to date now, but, I have several duplicates in the history file on microsoft update. Should I remove these or just ignore them? I ask because they show up in history, only one instance is in my control panel. Any thoughts? View this thread

Every time I start up computer Windows Security Alert tells me Microsoft Essentials is turned off but ME is green and telling me it is monitoring. Hi - I have a 2008 desktop with Vista 7 and Windows Mail. Since June 2012 (7 months ago) whenever I send an attachment, ( one photo of any size or a large Excell file) my computer will send. However... the recipient gets a dozen or so packets that cannot be opened. Frustrating and the impression of a "stupid sender" or a virus issue. This situation with my computer arose when a neighbour sent me a photo from her phone and I forwarded that photo. I have Norton antivurus that is current. My Windows updates are current. I am migrating our office from a workgroup to a Server 2012 Essentials server. Things have gone smoothly with the Win 7 desktops where the local user account migrated automatically. The problems started with the Windows 8 machines where the migration is not automatic. I have used the Easy Transfer wizard to backup my profile, but when I try to port it to my new domain account, there is no option to select the domain user--only my previous local user. I read in another post where the problem is related to the local user being a "Microsoft Account" user, and my account was of that type when I ran the WETW.
