OK, so I foolishly thought: "You've had Windows XPII SP III for a number of years. Time to update." I bought a Windows 7 32 bit program for my old Dell Dimension E520. Thank God I printed the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Report which warned me what to expect with a number of programs, including Dell AIO Photo Printer 962, Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album, WordPerfect12, and a few others would either not work, or have issues with Windows 7. First the Dell AIO Photo Printer 962. In spite of the fact I've updated drivers, and the little checklist on the screen tells me it's read for use, I keep getting a message saying something like "Your computer can't communicate with your printer. It then advises me to unplug/re-plug the USB cord, the power cord, re-start the computer, etc. I've done all that, nothing. Second, the software I bought from Corel, WordPerfectX6. The thing installs OK. Then I try to run it and I get a message stating: "WordPerfectX6 has stopped working" No S_t! I've tried uninstalling and re-installing it and nothing. I've got a call to the free 1-time support line, but I swear I'm on the verge of returning the thing and just doing with NotePad. What is critical now is the DellAIO Photo Printer 962. Has anyone had THAT problem and found a solution? I mention the other problem in case the two events are related. And since I use Windows7/32-bit, a Microsoft Product, I am taking a shot that maybe SOMEONE may have a cure! Thanks in advance for any advice. Serial-Poet :o( View the thread

The system keeps going in circles. I try to sign in and log-in site says that password is incorrect and gives me the hint, but it is the log-in that I'm entering which is the password necessary to log-in to the account. How can this be fixed? I'm able to get on my wife's page, but not mine. View the thread

Home built computer with Retail Vista Installed. I always made backups intending to reinstall on same machine if hard drive or MB went bad. Full image backup was on removal hard drive that did not get damaged. Never planned on losing entire computer to Sandy Storm Surge. I reinstalled before on same computer with success but never tried migrating to a new computer. Cannot uninstall Vista from old computer as it was submerged in salt water and is dead. I am not very knowledgeable but I can follow instructons. Thanks. View this thread

Since the last Cumulative Security Windows Update for XP, my computer (which is on AutoUpdate!) will not update itself. It does download the update, but it doesn't install it. The downloads complete, but installation fails. I've tried dozens of times, including reverting to default settings throughout the computer, and the Microsoft Mr. Fix-It Center. Still, no Windows Updating. The Icon in the notification area of the taskbar remains, and yes, it goes through the same ring-around -the-rosey, each time I click on it, over and over.....till I'm blue in the face. Please tell me what I can do!!! View this thread

The webcam.exe file pathway has overwritten to just about every other .exe file path. Also, a good portion of the icons have also been changed to the webcam icon. The original file path for each application is still there, it's just that the webcam pathway has been written in front of the original pathway. While looking at the component services for the time that it happened, this is what I found: - System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Application-Experience [ Guid] {EEF54E71-0661-422D-9A98-82FD4940B820} EventID 500 Version 0 Level 4 Task 0 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x1000000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2013-04-18T04:45:00.385756600Z EventRecordID 103 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 9144 [ ThreadID] 8324 Channel Microsoft-Windows-Application-Experience/Program-Telemetry Computer Jason-HP - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-21-668076596-1840948959-1949022313-1001 - UserData - CompatibilityFixEvent ProcessId 9144 StartTime 2013-04-18T04:45:00.357755000Z FixID {5CD0B801-68F1-4D35-9369-84CB29E54A8A} Flags 0x20102 ExePath C:Program Files (x86)CyberLinkYouCamYoucam_webcam_camera_video.exe FixName Win7RTM View the thread

I am getting the "low disk space" message on drive C and have used disk cleanup with minimal results. It shows 1.04 GB in "Tempory Files" but although this box is checked this space is not freed. There is 55.6 GB on drive C and only 500 MB free. I have about 2 GB in program files so what other than Windows Vista is using the remaining 50 GB? View this thread

What happens to files that are snyc'd to a user's computer and they get terminated?, will the file eventually become useless(not being able to open) after not syncing for a while? or will it just be like any other file a user may have copied to their machine to work on...its just there and nothing can be done about it. windows xp windows firewall not turning on.
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
I just got hit with a virus attack that turned off Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall, which made it difficult to get rid of as neither would then turn on - tricky little **** of a virus. So I ran a scan with Malwarebytes which seems to have caught the virus (it found & deleted 10 infections - although I ever copied the names which might have been helpful) and I then uninstalled/reinstalled Microsoft Security Essentialls which now seems to be working. The problem now is that when I open up Security Centre and try to turn on the Firewall I get an error message saying "Due to an unidentified problem Windows cannot display Firewall Settings." How does I fix this and get Firewall turned back on? View this thread -
