Sony Vaio - Slow Atheros AR9285 Wireless Card
Jelly Bean replied to Robert01's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello and welcome. In my opinion but I am sure the guys here will say other,Atheros aint that good. To have the laptop right next to the router is not a good idea, take it to another room or further away from the router.I dont think BT routers are that good either also BT can limit connections to the router unless you pay them a higher premium to do so. Mobile phones, cordless phones, radios etc can all interfere and drop a signal. This maybe simply a case of BT limiting your connections and speed. Each wireless connection to the router will limit another connection. Some machines may get a good speed others a lower one. You have heard of capping speeds as well? Also as an example your BT router only gives you "upto" the broadband speed you pay for. This means if you pay for 10 meg speeds you may only get 5-6 meg speeds wich will help limit your speeds. If you are only on 2-4 meg BB then maybe you need to upgrade to a higher speed. NOT all connections will run at the same speed.Just because one wireless connection appears pritty fast that dont mean ALL machines connected will run at the same speed. Others I am sure will input. But known fact you never get what you pay for nore will you get the speeds manufacturers state you will. -
Missing or corrupt Windows root\system32\hal.dll
Jelly Bean replied to gizmo87's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Here is what to try: Restart the computer and on the screen it will say "? press to enter setup" ? could be F1,F2,Del or another key, press the key it tells you to.Once in BIOS/Setup it will tell you what key to load default settings. If you are unsure of the BIOS,power off the computer and remove from power outlet.Remove BIOS battery for 2 mins replace reboot. Restart the computer and repeatedly tap F8 and choose last known good config,if that dont work restart the computer and repeatedly tap F8 and choose safe mode with networking.Does that work. Is the hard drive even reconised on startup screen or in BIOS? -

I have not heard of connecting to another PC to repair the files maybe someone else knows how. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314477 Have you tried rebooting the computer and booting into recovery console? Thats if it has the hidden recovery console installed. This is press F11 key on startup. Packard Bell Recovery Management opens. Click Restore system from factory default. Caution: Continuing the process will erase all files on your hard drive. Click Next to continue. Your hard drive's original, factory-loaded contents are recovered. This process will take several minutes -

You need to install the software that came with the camera and the hardware driver. Do this either via the disk supplied with the camera or go to the make and model of your camera website and under there support tab you should be able to download the software. -

Camcorder connectivity
Jelly Bean replied to thingameejig's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello there. You could use a software like DVD Sonic. To connect the video recorder to your computer you need a firewire 1394 connection. A way to get analog video into your computer - If you have a camcorder with a firewire (1394) connection, and you have a firewire card in your computer, you have everything you need. You can connect the audio and video output of your VHS tape player, into the audio and video input of your firewire equipped camcorder, and then connect the firewire to the computer. Doing this, you are passing the analog video through your digital camcorder, where it is converted automatically to digital format, and then forwarded onto your computer. Your VCR may not be compatiable. You could conect your video recorder to a DVD recorder via a skart lead. http://magic.sc-streaming.com/players/WhichPlayerV2.swf?campaignID=1938 You could also buy extra equipment to do the conversion. Others will input I am sure. But I think your issue maybe more of a wrong type of port/cable connection. -

Well I dont understand the washing up liquid choice if you could explain this thought please? As this would just break the laptop. If the laptop is still under warrantee it should realy go back to the shop for repair. Try entering BIOS/Setup and load default settings and see if that helps. It is possible your hard drive iis broken. But as I said if it is under warrantee I do not recommend taking it apart due to it will then be void. -
Step 1 Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator). It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin. Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion. Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean. Step 2 Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop. Make sure you are connected to the Internet. Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked: Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [*]Then click Finish. [*]MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install. [*]On the Scanner tab: Make sure the "Perform Full Scan" option is selected. Then click on the Scan button. [*]If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button. [*]The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient. [*]When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found". [*]Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process. [*]Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found. [*]Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. [*]When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below) [*]The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM. [*]Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM. Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware. Step 3 Download OTL to your desktop. if you have problems, try this download link: OTL Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output. Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/new/newOtl2.png Now copy the lines in the codebox below. Code: netsvcs msconfig %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe /md5start eventlog.dll scecli.dll netlogon.dll cngaudit.dll sceclt.dll ntelogon.dll logevent.dll iaStor.sys nvstor.sys atapi.sys IdeChnDr.sys viasraid.sys AGP440.sys vaxscsi.sys nvatabus.sys viamraid.sys nvata.sys nvgts.sys iastorv.sys ViPrt.sys eNetHook.dll ahcix86.sys KR10N.sys nvstor32.sys ahcix86s.sys nvrd32.sys symmpi.sys adp3132.sys /md5stop %systemroot%\*. /mp /s %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles CREATERESTOREPOINT right click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the blue bar) and choose Paste. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/new%20forum/scan-fix.png . Click the Run Scan button. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/runscan.png Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long. When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them with your next reply. In your next reply, please submit: MBAM scan report Both reports from OTL Thanks.
