PC (XP) shuts down intermittently
Jelly Bean replied to Prophet1000's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello and welcome. Lets first rule out a heating issue. Download and run SpeedFan and post results: SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer Please could you post your computer hardware this may help us rule out or in an issue. Try an update of hardware drivers and load defaults settings in BIOS. Is shut down random or during a lot of running processes? Or is it during game play? -

Thankyou for the information. I have not found much on this but can quote what others have said on this issue if that can help? Do you have 1 gig RAM or more? Do you have the latest DirectX installed? I am a little stumped on the problem but I also dont like to give up,but I think I have to unless someone else can pop on and give an answer. Here this forum maybe able to help more: Big Fish Games Forums -

Hello there. It appears you may of installed windows on F drive by mistake. You could reinstall windows and delete F while you are there. F is possibly the small amount of free hard drive space that is left free from manufacturers or it was possible it was your recovery console.

Copy both lists and we will see what we can see what is up. You realy should upgrade your RAM to at least a gig if your computer can utilise that amount.

Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1 Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. Next, click on Start > Run, type Cleanmgr and click on OK. Click on the More Options tab. Click the Clean Up button in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the most recent one. This will remove any infected files that have been backed up by Windows. Note: Do not clear restore points on a regular basis as doing so will clear all previous restore points even those that you may need. System Restore is a useful tool to revert your computer back to a working condition if something goes wrong. Re-enable all your security applications and please return here and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. Problems with reinstallling OS!
Jelly Bean replied to tomreigate's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I note your external drive is connected. Could you dissconnect any external hardware that is not required for booting the computer. Items like printer, scanner, external drives, webcam etc. Then load defaults in BIOS set first boot to CD/DVD rom pop in disk and start again. Does that work? Another possibility is your disk contains service pack 1 and the computer contains service pack 2,is this possible? -

Wireless Mouse - not responding.
Jelly Bean replied to Quacker's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Possibly the simplist thing to do is as I did a few days ago with my computer upstairs and the babys. Both have wireless keyboard and mouse,Logitech. They are a pain in the rear. It is connect mouse then keyboard. Its press the button on the reciever then on mouse then do the same for the keyboard. It took a few attempts to get them to connect. They connected in the end but soooooo annoyed me. -
A little cheeky today? Restart the computer and enter setup/BIOS and load defaults save and exit. Does that help? Could you please check in event veiwer on any error that may point to software or a driver issue please? Open command prompt running in Admin mode.Typ in chkdsk /r and hit enter.Restart the computer and let chkdsk /r run. Please note any errors it may show. Again open command prompt in Admin mode and type in sfc /scannow and hit enter.Let sfc /scannow run and note if there is corruption that cannot be fixed. Running a repair maybe an option. Run: Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

New hardware found wizard "help"!
Jelly Bean replied to Casswilf's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Firtsly unplug any external hardware that is not required for booting the computer. Items such as printer, webcam and so on. Restart the computer and do you now get the found new hardware wizard popup? In device manager right click on each USB item inturn and choose update driver. If the popup has gone then connect one external hardware item at a time testing to see wich may be causing the popup. If you figure out one of the externaly connected hardware is causing the popup,as an example the printer, reinstall the printer software and hardware driver. -

Here is a list of commands: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ipconfig.mspx?mfr=true I find when this happens to my babys computer and it often does I right click on the adaptor and choose repair or even an update of the driver. 1. DHCP Service not running. 2. Duplicate IP address on the network. 3. Bad NIC card drivers. 4. Defective NIC hardware Resolution: 1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic. 2. Turn off ALL of the computerand other network connected devices, reboot the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices. 3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers. 4. Replace the Network Interface Card.
