Jelly Bean replied to dazzac1965's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
The Vaio will have issues if you install Windows 7 and may not run correctly or display correctly. XP mode is also included in Vista. This is used to run programs that are compatible with XP and not Winows 7 or Vista. So you could run older programs and games. -
advent 7090 laptop Screen not working. HELP!
Jelly Bean replied to Edna's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hello and welcome Edna. This isnt looking good at the moment. The laptop could of xrashed due to overheating, this is an issue with lots of laptops. When left on beds and softfurnidhings etc it causes vents to become covered and the machine cannot cool down. That is not saying this is what happened in this case. The problem could be a bad cable connection. It could be as you say broken graphics card wich I am afraid to say means a whole new mainboard Laptops have intergrated graphics cards wich are not simple to replace as a computer. If it is hardware issue then I am afraid I would either take it to a computer repair shop as they are difficult for normal users to try and fix and more issues could be caused. Have you tried to restart the laptop and repeatedly tap F8 key and choose last known good config or safe mode thats if the screen will allow you to see the options? -

Hello and welcome to the forum. I have a few ideas of why this maybe happening. Lets fiirst check that this isnt malware. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1 Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Is the windows 7 testing as genuine? Can you validate Windows 7? http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/ This link explains downgrade paths and I note it said: About OEM versions of windows? Are you using OEM or a retail disk? What are you trying to install? Has the OS you trying to install been used before on any other computer? Microsoft OEM Partner Center

Are you leaving the space in the commands? Its ipconfig then a space / Do you have a main computer connected via cable? Ahhhh the possibility could be hardware not good enough to hold a good signal.Other laptops hogging the network. Interference from cordless phones, mobiles and other wireless products. To close to a wireless router can cause drop outs in signals. To far away and thicker walls cause a drop of signal/connection. Using the XBOX could actualy be the cause also. What make and model is your wireless router? -
You are most welcome. :)

Your welcome. Astra32 is good and can be used as a free scanner,no need to pay.I realy do not like these scanner programs you have to pay for. There are many many free ones that do the job just fine. Belarc is a simple free one that may not give you full hardware specs but for a quick and easy guide it is brilliant. You can install the Reatek codecs.

Hello there. Ok I am not sure of the problem yet. But lest see what we can do. Have you asked Virgin to resend your signal to check the modem? Do you do a fare share of downloading as Virgin now cap your downloads to a certain meg then cut your speed wich may appear if you are being disconnected?Or is anyone in your house hold downloading a lot?A combination of several people downloading will soon mount up and virgin will cut your speed. Are you able to trace your BB cables and check for any damage or breakages? Can you check your speeds for me and post results: Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test Update all drivers for network cards on each machine vvia device manager. Could you possibly have an infection on any of the computers? -
ASTRA32 - Advanced System Information Tool - Free Download Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit Opening up the computer and checking code on the card and doing an online search of it is PCI card. Check computer manual if the card was origonaly installed when the computer was purchased. Is it PCI or onborad is a factor. There are many ways to find the make and model and the correct driver. Including driver scanning software. The make and model of mainboard is another way and check the makers website on what sound card is installed.
