  1. That is a good find there David, thankyou for getting back to us.
  2. Hello and welcome to the forum. Ok I am not sure of this issue other than you maybe infected. Are you able to restert the computer and repeatedly tap F8 and choose either last known good config that worked or safe mode with networking? If you can enter either of these I think you should possibly visit our security section and be checked for malware. But if you can hang on while checking for above I am sure someone else will pop on and try and help you.
  3. You are very very welcome. If you need help in the future please pop back and ask,we are here to help you. You have a good day.
  4. I would not buy that one. Try Amazon,if funds are limited buy Kingston value RAM. Look for Crucial value RAM also they are both decent enough.
  5. Thankyou for the results. Yes you appear to have 2 x 512 mb installed. Ok you can have mixed RAM modules. Ok you must stick to the speed as indicated by the scanner. You could fit 1 x 512 mb and 1 gig RAM stick then some time in the future buy a second 1 gig stick. Or go ahead and buy 2 x 1 gig sticks it is upto you.
  6. Make a folder on the PC and then transfer all the files to it. Do not open the folder untill you have scanned it with your AntiVirus as soon as you transfered them over.
  7. Run the curical scan link I posted and post me the result of tha scan please. If there is two slots on the mainboard for the RAM to be fitted and you already have a full gig of RAM fitted you fit the new 1 gig into the spare slot. I need you to run the scan to make sure you have a full one gig installed and not 2 x 512 mb. If you have 2 x 512 mb then you would have to buy 2 x 1 gig sticks. You can buy most brands as long as it is the correct speed etc. Curucial,Kingston,Samsung. Please do not appoligies,we have many levels of members of computer experience here on the forum.Ask questions we are here to help you.
  8. Hello and welcome. I am not sure of the problem which has caused this but I am sure others will jump in and help. But I will ask what service pack you have installed? You need to update to SP3. Are you able to test some other type of PCI card in the slots? Load defaults in BIOS and see if that helps. JB.
  9. Well yes of course there is,it will take strain off your graphics card and improve performance. The system will run faster. You would then have 2 gig of RAM installed if you keep the origonal and the fit the new one.
  10. You can fit the hard drive as a slave drive. Do not remove the main drive from the computer. On the hard drive you need to fit as a slave set the little plastic jumper to slave drive if it is IDE.Sticker on top of the hard drive will show you how. If SATA just plug in the data cable and power supply and restart the computer. Please power off the computer and remove from power outlet before opening it up.Touch power supply for a few seconds then fit hard drive.
  11. Logon to the laptop and connect to the internet. Run this scanner and it will tell you which RAM and what speed etc can be installed on the laptop: RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com Please note matching pairs must be installed. So if 1 gig is fitted now you need to buy the same sized and speed etc. Then download the graphics card driver from here by filling in your graphics card make and model and OS.Download and install: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers
  12. Yes David remove one and reboot see if you can logon to the PC. Then shut down and test the other stick on its own and reboot see if you can logon.
  13. Hello David. This error appears to point to faulty or incompatible RAM. If you recently added more RAM remove the stick you fitted see if that helps. If you have more than one RAM stick installed remove all but one then see if the PC will boot. Then remove that stick and place in another and see if the PC boots. Information here: "STOP 0x0000008e" error message during Windows XP setup
  14. Hello and welcome. You cannot fit a new graphics card into a laptop I am afraid to say. You could install another gig of RAM which would help the performance. Update the graphics card hardware driver.
  15. You would have to buy a 3.5 inch external case or the convert cables to turn it into an external USB drive.
  16. Hello David. If you use a full install disk or recovery disk then all data would be lost. Could you connect the hard drive to another computer first and remove all your data? Restart the computer and repeatedly tap F8 then choose last know good config that worked or safe mode do either of these work for you?
  17. Hello and welcome to the forums. Oh an R.A.F man.My brother was in the R.A.F for some years. He left the forces and became a police officer. He also spent time in Germany,Scotland,Devon and a few other places. Nice to meet you and look forward to reading your postings on the forum. JB.
  18. Caskin have any of the fixes Wolfeymole posted for you on another forum worked?
  19. My opinion is the hard drive could be on its way out. Check cables are fully seated to the hard drive and mainboard, check that the cables are not damaged. Download/install the Western Digital hard drive diagnositics tool and run. WD Support > Downloads > Select Product# Results were?
  20. I tend to agree with snow. Other than an update of your graphics card driver and setting the controls via the monitor controls and windows display properties you may of bought a monitor that could be on its way out.
  21. It could be a printer or status.msi is a file which arises due to partly or incomplete installation of Windows xp or Windows vista. to prevent this you shall install Windows xp or Windows vista completley, from the same cd you had partly installed Windows xp or Windows vista or uninstall it if you want to work with the present windows of your computer. If the error does pertain to a printer uninstall your printer software and driver and reinstall.
  22. Goku after just dealing with some FaceBookers who all appear to have the Vundo Virus and varients I would agree with you,The malware section is the best option.
  23. You did correctly not to press any key the second time. Read this: "Error Loading Operating System" Error Message When You Restart Your Computer During Setup What size hard drive was in the PC origonaly and what size have you fitted as in gig?
  24. That is brilliant. Set first boot to CD rom pop in the disk and save and exit BIOS. Hope it goes well.
