  1. Hi Richard and welcome to ExTS , firstly we dont recommend using any registry cleaner as they can cause more damage than good , secondly having two Anti Virus's is going to cause conflicts and cause problems since you've encountered problems using the standard add/remove programs may I recommend revo uninstaller download this and use this in advanced mode to remove virgin's security , reboot and let us know what happens after hope this helps Dave

  9. hi Roadrunner the laptop in your link is more than enough for your needs , unless you plan on doing lots of video editing a i3 processor is perfectly fine , a i5 processor is basically a 4 core processor , in reply to your other question if you can find xp on ebay cheaply am sure myself and my colleagues here will be happy to instruct you on how to reinstall your operating system. Dave
  10. Hi Dopey first of all am glad everything seems to be ok for now , secondly we here at FPCH don't really advise using registry cleaners as they can cause more harm than good , what I would do is download Malwarebytes and then run a full scan , then copy and paste the log here if theres any problerms one of our security guys will then advise . Hope this helps Dave
  11. Just a quick point was the hard drive quote including fitting a reinstall of the operating system etc etc because even then it sounds very expensive a PATA hard drive double the capacity you have now is only £20 at amazon Click here
  12. Hi BeeJay yes it needs to be set up but not connected to the internet , or you could remove the hard drive from the tower and connect it to the laptop using a hard drive dock http://www.amazon.co.uk/Freecom-31994-Hard-Drive-Dock/sim/B002611YO2/2 and get your data from the drive that way
  13. Yes it's possible BeeJay with a USB data transfer cable http://www.amazon.co.uk/Speed-Transfer-Cable-Windows-Vista/dp/B003TL4558/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_1/279-9508825-2159708 plug one end in the laptop the other in the tower and let the built in software do it's job
  14. if you can run another scan and post that log , I then think we'll leave the security guys to take a look

  18. Zorin OS core 6 is the newest Zorin and looks and behaves like windows 7 and unlike lots of Linux systems comes with the required codecs for playing avi's and mp3's , Two more Linux systems worth looking at for ease of use are Pinguy OS and Linux Mint 13 , all these will run in live mode and if you decide to install will detect different operating systems and offer to install beside them. Hope this helps Dave
  19. Hi I bought my last system as a barebones ( no drives ) from novatech and installed my own , as far as Linux goes Ubuntu is fine but getting the right codecs for MP3's and Avi's etc is a pain for a newbie If you are willing to give Linux a go may I suggest either Linux Mint 12 or Pinguy 11.04 both these work straight out the box so to speak since the codecs are already there.
