  1. hello again you could try a Acer e-recovery restore , which would return the laptop to its factory state to do this press f10 when you see the acer logo this will take you through Acer's in built recovery
  2. Quick thread update I suggested to Yockie via a mail he try a set of head phones and they work , suggesting the laptop speakers themselves are at fault , further investigation continues
  3. Grub4dos is a alternative boot loader replacing windows master boot record , so the 1st question I have is do you have a windows disk ?
  4. Hi your looking for a black exclamation mark next to the sounds icon in device manager. To open Device Manager, click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. Once there find the sounds Icon then see if you have the black exclamation mark in a yellow triangle next to sounds if you have we can go from there in sorting your problem

  7. I agree with Randy on this one Cliff , personally if its for kids i'd have a look for a reconditioned machine i myself got one recently and for me was the cheapest way to replace a system that i broke

Hi depends if its a desktop a tenner will buy you a reasonable 5.1 soundcard open the side fit in its slot securely reboot vista will prolly auto install the drivers plug in the speakers and your on your way , if its a laptop and you want to improve ytour sound its either better speakers or a external soundcard hope that helps dave

Ok folks here's my problem I have a dual boot XP and Win 7 machine now xp relies on realtek for my sound drivers and all is ok in Win7 Realtek software shows my front and back panel inputs within its software but try as I might I cannot get the back panel to cut off when I plug my head phones in the front I have deleted Realtek and tried MS's own drivers to no avail re-installed Realtek and no still nothing for now I have a switch that I manually turn the back speakers off when I want to use my headphones I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.   12. hi and welcome to freepchelp have you tried booting in safe mode so it loads off failsafe drivers and then re-activating the display adapter
  13. me been me has firefox beta and ie 9 beta and chrome beta and apart from running ie 9 in compatibility mode for a few sites I gotta say its rather good
  14. I agree with Randy on this one take it back get your money back because it does sound like a BIOS password and without that if you did decide to do a reinstall you couldn't change the boot order in BIOS anyway

Hi Stony Is your sound on your motherboard or been provided by a soundcard you can remove, if its on the motherboard and you don't want to play around inside there fitting a sound card which you can get for 7 quid i'd get a external USB one and plug the speaker jack into that again there around 7 quid External Sound Card USB 6 Channel 5.1 Audio: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics that's one of the better ones . but u can pick up basic one's from any decent pc shop Hope that helps Dave

I would just like to post a personal thanks to our Security Guy Starbuck, a close friend of mine has been having major issues and with my help has thrown everything at the machine to keep it running least to say i got stuck and called on Starbuck and he came to the rescue one again like he has done for so many others and with his help we are almost there, a properly working PC so once again Starbuck thank you Dave AKA Armageddon

  21. Cheers Starbuck Mbam sorted it all after she ran the scan again i had a good look at it last night after I posted and noticed 95% was adware anyway am glad shes got it right though and it gave her enough of a scare to get some AV protection , how are ya anyway sir

Seems my friend miss bean didn't run the scan right she forgot to hit quarantine and delete the scan has now been run and has shifted the lot a SAS scan was also run and shifted a few other bits then mbam was re-run and everything is fine now i'd personally like to run a Panda online scan to be sure but she runs of a dongle thats as slow as she seems happy enough now it works and running quicker i have told her to make sure she has a antivirus now and recommended MSE
  23. Hi guys I wonder could someone have a look at prolly the worst mbam log i have seen and make some recommendations the log is from a friend of mines pc am seriously thinking a wipe and start a fresh is the best bet
