  1. I have mine set up - router is hard wired to the NTL and Server too and the other 2 laptops and 2 pc's wirelessly connect. Cheapest way is definately a wireless card mate and a length of CAT5. but if you want it wireless you need the router. The 1394 is firewire
  2. Do you not have 2 ethernets on the back of the MOBO ?? failing that get a network card they are only like £4 or something - goes in a PCI slot and Voila
  3. Do you not have a router mate?? I am guessing the antenna is for yours to be wireless - I doubt if you can send your signal from your box to the laptop - I know you can on some ABIT MOBO's via there own device - but not seen it on anything else - you would have to run a CAT5 cable from your pc to the laptop in order to share the connection.
  4. Have you looked at your available hard drive space?? I have seen problems like this and they didnt have enough space for the updates to install *Didn't notice this was your first post:- Welcome to FPCH :D
  5. If his works then thats great but it doesn't mean yours are dead if they are being powered as in the drawers opening then they are working but for some reason windows is not fully picking them up - have you tried setting the autorun options yet?
  6. VGA is the blue socket that plugs into the monitor and DVI is the white socket that plugs into the monitor. If you have both connected then a signal is transmitted to both ports and can damage the monitor
  7. You can't for the Image to work no. I was referring more to the other storage drives, and opticals
  8. Also as a side note - see if windows live onecare supports 64bit - thats the one I use and its very very good and can be purchased from any etailer for around £20 a year
  9. You can change the letters of the drives via the control panel and then the disk management you have to make sure that if you are rearranging them that you make sure you change the BIOS setting for the C DRIVE to be at the top. you can also change optical drives in this way -
  10. If it is constantly rebooting without the 20" fan then its a heat issue from somewhere - how many case fans do you have? have you checked the CPU heatsink is still tight? - don't yank it  - just give it a very gentle waggle and you will see if its properly attached
  11. BUT - the whole reason you pay alot for these 'programs' NOD32 etc is to keep this stuff out - what I was saying is if you have a sensible head, you know what sites are bound to be full of Malware - it doesn't float around the internet. People are just click happy and think yes thats ok - accept - but they dont know what they are accepting as they dont read and rush to get whatever they have to do. My point is people who get Malware and Viruses get it for one of two reasons - they illegally download programs that are rife with both. Or they are the click happy ones as listed above.
  12. Ok the problem that you have with trying to transfer data over is that all the MOBO drivers etc are on it - there is a facility within windows to do this I think its in the control panel.
  13. You have some serious problem with IE - have you installed firefox and see if that works yet?
  14. have you checked the rights that they have - some users are very 'restricted' in terms of what they can and cannot use.
  15. It is strange for them both to go at the exact same time - try them in another PC first as it could be the MOBO
  16. It sounds like messenger is still on your system and not being deleted properly - use add/remove programs and then navigate to C:/program files/windows messenger and delete that whole file - restart and try to reinstall messenger and see how it goes. *The post was moved as you are a different member* we do this so one thread is not a million pages long - as it would be if everyone tagged onto it
  17. I have seen some bad ones but never ones you cant get rid of - the net is a useful resource and I use majorgeeks.com for any software that is specific for certain malware/viruses. In regards to the McAfee and Norton ones - we know they are not strong in terms of protection and the best advice is to buy a solution that is strong as in NOD32 - it will all come down to what people use their pc for and their knowledge of Malware and how it gets into your system.
  18. I would also have a look at your startup items and see if there is anything suspicious lurking in there - FYI Daemon tools is known to cause lots of problems - and Norton is NOT very good in terms of protection as you have found out - if you bought Norton then its up to you whether to keep it or not but AVIRA is much better and NOD32 is better still.
  19. try the monitor on the laptop and see if you get any joy with it
  20. It seems that you are suffering from lack of airflow to some of the components - is the CPU fan working (turning) and as your Motherboard is quite old I am guessing the southbridge is actively (fan) cooled also - can you take a pic of the inside of the pc so we can have a look please :)
  21. They are expensive - but if you want the best encryption you have to pay for it ;)
  22. the latest version is 8.5.1302 Download Windows Live Messenger 8.5.1302 - FileHippo.com Not sure if this is the free one as I cannot access it from my current location.
  23. And if you right click your dvd drive and select properties, do you have an Autoplay tab? No? Then click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Scroll down to Shell Hardware Detection and make sure this service is Started and set to Automatic. ;)
  24. Well the PC is recognisng the devices then, so it's not that:- can you try and uninstall the devices later and do a reboot and see if it picks them up and asks for drivers, it must be a driver issue - as they open and close just means they are getting power.
