  1. Have a look here Bonjour (software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) ;)
  2. I am afraid I cannot try this guys as I have Vista :)
  3. Ok :o Maynard - I think you have some serious underlying problems - does your girlfriend beat you?? - there are sites for that you know :D
  4. Hi Sparkles Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help - hope that you enjoy your stay and that we can help you where needed :)
  5. Hi Kelly found this:- Whether or not you're on a local area network, odds are you don't really need the little logon (login) screen asking for your username and password that comes up when starting Windows. To remove this prompt, follow the following directions: Windows XP - solution 1: Select Run from the Start Menu, type control userpasswords2, and click Ok. Turn off the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok. Windows XP - solution 2: If you have one user account and no password configured, Windows XP will log you in automatically. Otherwise, you'll have to do the following: Obtain and install the Windows XP version of TweakUI. Open TweakUI (it's in Start -> Programs -> Powertoys for Windows XP). Expand the Logon branch, and click Autologon. Turn on the Log on automatically at system startup option, type your username and password, and click Ok.
  6. It will only be one of 2 things:- 1 limitation of the GPU 2 limitation of the Monitor Most LCD TV's now have a refresh rate of 100Hz as opposed to the 60Hz PC monitors use:- DO THE FOLLOWING AT YOUR OWN RISK you can make your monitor go to a bigger resolution by changing the hertz to a higher setting. If you do that be careful because you can burn up your graphics card or you monitor
  7. Right - was watching Independence Day last night............ peoples opinions on whether we are alone in the universe? I think we are not - but as I am a sci-fi geek there could be many reasons for this:- Stargate - wormholes to other universes - no one wants to come to ours:( Star Trek - ships would take forever to get here even on warp 10 :D And more importantly I remember seeing a program on discovery I think on Mars saying that its core was made from Ice - life at one point?? and before WOLFEY or MAYNARD jump in no I didn't fall asleep watching Total Recall lol :D
  8. As Kelly has said it will be a limitation of your GPU - to support 1920x1200 (which is a 24" monitor resolution) your card must be up to the job, there is normally an easy check for this - if their is only 1 DVI port on the back - then as a general rule it will not do it. My old 30" Dell monitor used both of the DVI ports on my GPU to achieve the maximum resolution.
  9. you missed the age old classic of leaving the seat up :D Janice - yes women are needy beings :D Now where is Bonnie for her 2 cents (wasn't me this time lol)
  10. lol good one maynard is that modelled on you :p
  11. ATI has released their first official driver with Radeon 4800 support. The new Catalyst 8.7 release brings the usual round of bug fixes along with a handful of performance enhancements in games including Company of Heroes, Call of Duty 4 and Lost Planet. Drivers & Software
  12. Ok here's my input:- 4:Saw 2 5: Toy Story 6: Clockwork Orange 7: The Rock 8: The Money Pit 9: Revolver 10: Beetlejuice 11: Red Dragon 12: 12 Monkeys 13: Bird on a wire 14: Stealth I watch far too many movies :D
  13. I am sure it used to on SP1, when they introduced SP2 I think it was a security 'feature' of that. :(
  14. It doesn't actually say what supplier it takes for the GPU so therefore it 'should' take either ATI or NVIDIA *One thing I did notice at the bottom of that page was a warning saying this particular Motherboard only takes upto a 95Watt CPU* for the amount of money you have available I would look more at the ATI front for a card Scan Computers UK: 512MB Sapphire HD 2400 PRO PCI-E (x16) 64Bit GDDR2, CrossFire VGA/DVI/S-Video, Retail ;)
  15. When you do a BIOS update you lose all the previous information that was on the BIOS as everything defaults to it's original settings - in the BIOS mostly under overclocking options there are is an option called fan controller and there will be a number of options to turn them to quiet - so they don't rev up as much.
  16. If you get a message about something you are using then 99.9% of the time it's fine - most AV programs give false positives - if you use the program then they are normally ok to hide on the AV scans :)
  17. 4 ports on the MOBO - do you mean SATA ports - BIOS's and MOBO's are very particular about changing parts round - if you remember what port you moved it from, try it back in that one and see if it boots. If you can't remember do the below steps. it should tell you at the bottom of the BIOS screen on that page - normally page up/page down and when the HDD is the first one on the list make sure you SAVE and then EXIT :)
  18. Happy birthday :) aahhhhhhh birthdays - gone are the days of Thundercat toys and Sega Megadrive games :(
  19. Ok - so you seem to have 2 cdrom or dvdrw drives on the IDE channel and the SATA disk as the 3rd MASTER - when you go into the BIOS there will be an option called boot device priority - you need to check that the HDD is number one in that list what connections did you swap?
  20. It sounds like the Hard drive has died - you should have more that one port for the cable on the motherboard - please try it in the other port and see if you get any life. Have you changed anything recently - software or hardware? How old is the PC? in regards to the 3rd master - error - this is implying you have 3 hard drives - unless you have 2 dvd/cdrom drives that are SATA too
  21. Hi Dave Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. We are here to help - so no question (PC related) and maybe some others in (fun stuff) will be beyond our reach ;)
  22. I second that - we are a pc site first :) but we have to also be aware that some people who do not know as much tech have a place to be a little mad :)
  23. I would as Wolfey has said doubt this - or there could be many piracy issues involving this method. ;)
  24. I doubt it would be that one stick slowing the system - but for future reference do not mix RAM suppliers if you can help it - they do not 'normally' work well together. they are all the same speed which does help ;) so they will all run at the maximum speed - MOBO permitting. I would check the RAM manufacturers and see what there timings are they will probably be 4-4-4-12 but have a look and check that yours in the BIOS correspond - I would guess that the CORSAIR and KINGSTON RAM needs more juice to get them to better timings but you will have to check the Micron one can handle it. you may get better performance with just the 2 sticks of Kingston and run them at the sites recommended timings and voltage ;)
