  1. - Hardware GPU, MOBO and CPU limit the software. Developers use the same technology as us, they cannot make it any better as they do not know what advances will be made in Hardware. thats not to say it wont run on new hardware. I love topics like this :)
  2. Have you always used the drive as a 'storage' drive, it sounds like it was not setup properly originally. How many drives do you have and what are their sizes? as some MOBO's cannot handle more than 2TB
  3. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  4. Hi and welcome to FPCH :)
  5. Ok - you need a PS2 keyboard - not an adapter from a USB to PS2 an actual PS2 keyboard. when you plug it in keep pressing whichever key the BIOS tells you to enter the BIOS. When in the BIOS, set the first boot device to HDD and disable the 2nd 3rd 4th etc. There will also be an options for Disable floppy drive A and or B, disable those. Make sure you SAVE and EXIT the BIOS -
  6. It sounds to me, if I am reading what you are saying correctly is that your laptop is loading up correctly, and you hear the bootup sound etc, before the actual screen displays the image, is this right? You can try updating the graphics drivers which will be on the Dell website, or you may have an issue with your monitor.
  7. Just to add to what the others have said - the 8800GTX is a very hot running card and the GPU's own cooler is not sufficient on its own, can you let me know what case you have. You probably need more cooling
  8. Have you checked that your MOBO actually accepts more than 4GB of RAM, the fact that you are using 2x2GB sticks does not mean that its meant to take more than 4GB of RAM, the chipset can normally handle 4GB of ram in any configuration but if you overstep the mark, that may be causing you issues, as you are trying to use something your MOBO is not meant to have in place if that makes sense.
  9. Lol - I just let people know its coming - 3/5 of the UK now uses broadband Maynard, no hampsters needed here to power it :D What's bandwidth (is it that 50Meg per second thingy I get) :D
  10. There is a patch knocking around (official before anyone asks) that will allow you to run DX10 on XP a quick search for DX10 on XP on google may prove useful :)
  11. So thats me, Match and Polo vs you up to now :D
  12. Play the latest games regardless of your hardware | News | Custom PC was meant to be this
  13. Right - since Maynard is now back I have a complaint against him:- He keeps stealing my game trophies :( I will get you Maynard - :D
  14. both, your hadware has to support the shaders, but you also need the latest direct X
  15. but thats the point software developers are limited by the technology thats around at the time, and base it on that, so software will ALWAYS be behind hardware
  16. The ability to play the latest games on older machines Valve promises to make DRM obsolete | News | Custom PC
  17. DELL warranty - have a read of this Forums - Dell Warranty opening case - PC Advisor It wont invalidate your warranty
  18. you arent going to get much for your £60.00 at the moment im afraid - can you stretch to £93? This is a good card for the money Play.com (UK) : Play Value GeForce 9800GT / 512MB / DDR3 / PCI-E / Graphics Card : Computing - Free Delivery
  19. From what I remember it only has space for an HDD and nothing else - so if they are on the HDD then yes - the more expensive ones come with inputs so that you can just USB or firewire the thing into a lappy or PC and move stuff over :)
  20. The thing that annoys me is that all ATI seem to do is sandwich 2 GPUs together. I know Nvidia have been guilty of it in the past too but they are extortionately expensive and its normally cheaper to buy 2 of the original cards and SLI or crossfire them.
  21. Oh and dont forget Yoyo tech :)
  22. I doubt it, but they have to be 'seen' to be trying :D
  23. Just dont expect too much from it :D
  24. your PC hangs as you have done something to alter the last time it booted ok. The BIOS flash is probably the problem, lets say you chose the right BIOS update ok and then popped the CMOS - and reset the first boot device back to HDD and disabled the other boot device priorities - it should boot up as normal
  25. I do have MSN, but not on it and cant get on it as im at work. Mobo cd is the cd that has the drivers on for the Ethernet and chipset, USB etc. You would have something supplied when you bought the computer - you need those disks
