OK Bob, the simplest method will be to open the port by accessing your router's configuration page. I have tried to locate a procedure to make the task simpler but I could not find one; at least not now. Please try and find your way around if you can. Otherwise, please wait for further instructions from me or anoy other helper. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku

Also, there is a bug in Windows Vista which is also one of the cause of the error. Please install the corresponded Hotfix and see if it resolves your problem or not. Error message when you try to shut down or to restart a Windows Vista-based portable computer that has Bluetooth devices installed: “Stop: 0x0000008E” Hope that helps. :) -- Goku

OK Bob, I am a complete novice when it comes to Networking so please bear with me. Can you tell me who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and what do you do to connect online? Also, what modem / router do you use (if any)? -- Goku

Hello Biker. I might be wrong but the most obvious and easy way to resolve your problem is to try and take the ownership of the highest possible directory. For example, if your files are stored in the Program Files directory and you need to take their ownership, you could use the instructions from here and apply it on its sub directories. This way, you will be granted the ownership of all the files, directories and documents available inside the Program Files directory. So, if your files are stored in My Documents or My Pictures, you might want to apply the ownership options on the Documents and Settings folder, usually available in the C:\. Similarly, perform the steps to take access of any directory and its contents. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku

Hello Bob. Please try and follow Barry's advice as he makes some very valid points there. There is just one thing I need to know; do you connect wirelessly or do you use a router or ethernet connection to get online? The port 995 may be closed on your computer and therefore we need to know that information to provide you with the instructions on how to open it. Post back the required information as soon as possible. -- Goku

Ah sorry, my bad. Please read the second link and try the troubleshooting instructions suggested. In Vista, the settings might be different, so you might need to use a different tact to access them but I think you can find your way around them. If you can't, then please post back and I will try to post the appropriate instructions. Hope that helps. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

Hello Barry. The actual error code is 0x00000008E; you just need to replace the O's with 0's. Here are two Microsoft Knowledge Base articles that might help you with your problem, Neil. You receive a random "0x0000008E" error message on a blue screen in Windows XP General troubleshooting for an error message that you may receive randomly in Windows XP: "Stop 0x0000008E" Hope that helps. :) -- Goku

Fix CD Drive Hello Jember. If Randy's solution doesn't work do the following. Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix CD Drive.reg. Double-click on the file and you will be asked whether you want to import the information into the registry or not. Answer Yes to the prompt and sometime later another dialog box will pop up informing you that the operation was successful. After you have done the above, reboot your computer. You should now be able to access and use your CD drive. Note: Please backup your registry before you apply any of the above changes so that we can revert back your system to working condition if something goes awry. Note: Using the above registry fix might cause some programs to dysfunction or work incorrectly. In that case, please reinstall the affected programs to resolve their respective errors. You might say that you have already tried the fix but I recommend you to rerun the fix since I have now modified the code. Please try the fix again and see if it helps or not. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku Fix CD Drive.zip

That is because Windows, by default, checks the file name in the C:\WINDOWS directory and not anywhere else. That is why if you type only the file name that is stored in a directory other than the stated one, Windows will give you an invalid path error. By the way Syoza, the symptoms you state are commonly caused by Malware infections. I strongly urge to run your computer through our disinfection procedure as it will serve as a more efficient solution. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku

Hello Devlin. I have played Recoil and I must say, I was addicted to it instantly. The graphics were smooth, the story engaging but the gameplay was very tough. You might find some relevant games on GameSpot though. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku

No Bob, CastleCops was a site that was a milestone in Internet Security. Fortunately, its databases were shifted to System Lookup before the closure so the valuable information is still preserved. Just hope it returns under some other name like the TomCoyote Forums. :) -- Goku

Hello Bob. Mailwasher's shutdown wouldn't be half as bad news compared to the CastleCops shutdown. The bad guys are going to have a field day with it gone. Fortunately, there are three to four more universities but I don't think they are enough. -- Goku

It is with great regret that I must inform you that the legendary security site CastleCops is now no more. Here is what you get when you try to visit the site. The news comes as a real blow to me as CastleCops was one of the best security advisory sites ever made. It even used to be a university to train Malware fighters so its going offline comes as a big loss to the world of internet. :( I just hope that some other CastleCops comes back online; bigger, stronger and better than the one just closed. -- Goku
