Just a word of caution Gavin. Third-party encryption programs are known to cause problems after they are uninstalled or after their trial period expires. It is advisable that you back up your data to reliable external media before you encrypt your data as there have been cases when people have been locked out of their own data. Don't want to scare you but you must be aware of the risks involved. :) -- Goku -

Yes, you are right there. And the price seems quite reasonable to me. :) -- Goku -
There are some precautions you can take to avoid the trouble. The simplest and easiest one would be to backup your registry before applying the fix. And though, the footnote says that your CD burning programs may lose functionality, it happens very rarely as most programs are capable of "protecting" themselves against such changes. So, you can proceed with the fix safely as it will not cause any damage to your Operating System, and if it does, then we have the means to reverse it. If you are still not assured, name your CD / DVD burning application and we will try to provide you with a download link for it. That way, if your CD / DVD programs are affected by the fix, you can reinstall the program(s) and resolve the conflicts. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku

Another option would be to try and delete the option using Unlocker. A very handy tool to delete stubborn files. :) -- Goku

What Happened to Scanner&Camera Wizard?
Goku replied to struggling's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
OK Struggling, I will try to help you fix this problem first before turning my attention to your other problem as this one is comparatively easier to resolve. Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix Camera Wizard.reg. Double-click on the file and you will be asked whether you want to import the information into the registry or not. Answer Yes to the prompt and sometime later another dialog box will pop up informing you that the operation was successful. After you have done the above, reboot your computer. Note: Please create a backup of your registry before you perform any of the above changes. It will ensure that you can revert your computer to working condition if anything goes wrong. Please perform the above procedure Struggling. I have changed the file's code to add some other registry keys which are responsible for the automation of the wizard. Please perform the fix and see if it resolves the problem or not. Make sure your camera is unplugged while you are applying the fix. Also, I will download the tool from Microsoft and comment on its usage when I have more time. Please wait for further instructions while I do that. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku- 13 replies

Hello Djaj. I will reiterate Barry's advice and suggest that you remove AVG immediately and install Avira or Avast as a replacement. I just hope that it resolves the conflict and resolves your other problem too. In either case, please keep us posted on developments. :) -- Goku

Do you have a Logitech mouse or any of the company's device? What Antivirus are you using? I have a strong suspicion that the two might be conflicting with each other resulting in the crash. Also, please do the following and report back the results. 1. Click Start. 2. Select Run. 3. In the Open: box, type shutdown -t -0 4. Click OK. Note: The above procedure will terminate all running processes resulting in an immediate shutdown. It is advised that you save all your important data and work before you proceed with the above instructions. Provide me with the required information as soon as possible. Good Luck. :) -- Goku

Hello Struggling. I will research your other problem after a bit but here is what you can do to fix your Windows Scanner and Camera Wizard is not running problem. Please download the attached archive and extract it. If you are unsure on how to open the archive, use the instructions from here and continue. After you have extracted the archive, you should obtain a file labeled Fix Camera Wizard.reg. If the above problem does not resolve your problem, please download this tool from Microsoft and run it. Let it correct any defective settings it may find and reboot your computer again. The problem should hopefully be resolved. Also, this might sound like a long shot but can you try performing the disinfection procedure again, preferably in Safe Mode as I still doubt that you have the remnants of an infection. If not, then please say so in your next post and I will try to look up for an alternate solution. Hope that helps. :) -- Goku Fix Camera Wizard.zip -

Hello Devlin. What you state is not possible as drivers are needed to operate any kind of given hardware. They 'communicate' between the software and hardware on your computer to exceute various kind of tasks. Therefore, there is no alternative, as far as I know, to installing the device drivers however boring the process may be. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. -- Goku

And since you hate Norton, I would recommend you to remove it. But Norton can be very notorious to remove so I would suggest using the instructions from the below article to remove it completely. How to Uninstall Norton Instead, replace it with Avira AntiVir and run a full system scan with it. Make sure the virus definition files are updated before you proceed with the scan. After you have done the above, your problem should be resolved if it is related to Malware. If not, then please report back here and we will try our best to help you out. Good Luck. :) -- Goku -

Thanks for the update Barry. :) -- Goku -
OK Djaj. Time to try another shot at this. Right-click My Computer | Properties | Advanced tab | Under Startup and Recovery | Settings button | Under System Failure | UNCheck: Write an event to the system log | Under Write debugging information | Select (None) | Click OK | Click Apply | Click OK. Right-click My Computer | Properties | Advanced tab | Error Reporting button | Disable error reporting | Click OK | Click Apply | Click OK. Click Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK | Scroll down to and double-click: Error Reporting Service | Click Stop button | Click Apply | Click OK. Restart the computer after you have performed the above set of instructions. They should disable the error reporting feature in Windows XP and hopefully get rid of the error too. Let us know how it goes though. Good Luck. :) -- Goku
