  1. I'm in the market for a portable hard drive. Or, at least, I think I am . See, I need to install a Virtual Machine which will host a dev environment. And my current laptop only has one physical hard drive. So, I'm thinking I'd be better off running it on a portable hard drive. Question is, what should I get? I'm thinking about 100Gb size should be enough, although a larger one wouldn't hurt (if I need to add more machines later). But, what about transfer speed? Seek time? etc... What should I look for? I'm thinking the limiting factor here will be the USB 2.0 port, so does any of the other stuff matter? Anyone have experience in this? More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds
  2. When the Windows Workflow Foundation (WF)*was first introduced in the .NET Framework 3.0, the only way to host a workflow in a client application was to use the WorkflowRuntime class programmatically, start the runtime, and create/start an instance of a workflow.* Furthermore, if you wanted to communicate between the client code and the workflow logic, you needed to ues a ExternalDataExchangeService.* This required a fair amount coding effort to get even the simplest of workflows up and running.* The .NET Framework 3.5 introduced Workflow Services which are Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) Services authored as workflows.* Workflow Services give you a new way to accomplish this scenario using a much simpler,*cleaner, and arguably more elegant approach.* In this three part screencast, I show you how to improve on the more*manual hosting + ExternalDataExchangeServices approach by hosting a workflow in a client executable*using Workflow Service. 5. There's a load of options for getting a VPN working with Windows systems. My scenario's a little complicated, but here's my situation: Windows Server 2003 box sitting behind a NAT at a dedicated IP address (my house)FWIW The modem/router I'm using supports forwarding VPN A bunch of other machines on the network [*]A second "Site" comprised of another Domain Controller (in the same AD domain) and one or two other machines (university halls) Second site is behind a NAT behind a dynamic IP address, connections incoming to this network may be difficult [*]And roaming machines with access only to the Internet (no local DC available) I want the second DC (in halls) and the other computers at that site to be able to communicate with my LAN at home, as well as any roaming machines to be able to get into the LAN as well. This is especially important for the secondary domain-controller (where frequent communication is important) But I don't know what to choose: The Routing and Remote Access role uses "dial-in" a lot of the places, even though that's not what I want. Then there are third-party VPNs and hardware VPNs (by Cisco, for example). So can someone tell me what I want? Ta. Oh, and the ability for a non-Windows/Linux box to be able to get access is a plus too. More... View All Our Microsoft Related Feeds

  24. Still can't get my wife's Vista machine(new Dell 530) to see a share I made on my Vista machine(Dell XPS 720). I made all computers in the house the same workgroup using our last name. I've follow every instruction on this site: http://www.maximumpcguides.com/share-a-folder-in-windows-vista/ I made a share of my music folder, adding Everyone as a co-owner. But when I go to her network setting and double-click my computer it sits there for 30 seconds and says it can't connect. Am I missing anything? Both of our computer are right into the back of the ADSL router, would it work if we were in a normal hub together? My boys have their laptops into a hub so it would be easy to run a wire to that. Youngest also has a new computer (Dell 1525 laptop) with Vista and can't get him to connect to mine either.
