I think Nev may be right. Also - Windows needs about 10-15% disk space free for it to function properly. You have about 2.5% free. On the Vista machine goto Start and type in .bkf ( that is dot followed by bkf ) do not hit enter at this stage. The backup files should be located and this will give you the path to the files. Check there how many and how big they are.

You normally get 30 days to activate it. Try this link - click here

Hi Dave I did look it up when you first mentioned it. It looks painful !! I hope things improve for you :)

[Solved] Dual Operating Systems
KenB replied to grandadfatboy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Ian This isn't a good idea. They will clash and possibly affect the running of your machine. I suggest that you remove AVG and keep Essentials. With regards to Windows XP Virtual Environment in Windows 7 I will let one of the others answer this as my experience of this is very limited. -
I am sorry to hear that. Are the boots permanent - is the condition degenerative ? I know a couple of people who have diabetes but your condition must be fairly extreme ? I hope it isn't too uncomfortable for you.

Nothing wrong with your d/l speed - this is what mine is and I have no problem with You Tube. Your system should play Y-T video without over-clocking the CPU Some system "BIOS" are not set up for making changes to CPU / RAM etc. I also found this article: click here It suggests that MS do not recommend overclocking. If you still want to try I will ask one of our moderators - I am not too familiar with UEFI

[Solved] Dual Operating Systems
KenB replied to grandadfatboy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Ian It is not quite as easy as that - would that it was :) If you just transfer the hard drive with XP on into a new pc you will find that it will not boot up as the drivers etc used by XP will be different from the ones needed for the new environment. With XP there is a way around this .......... if you have the XP installation disk. You can put the drive into the new system then run a Repair Install of the OS. I can explain or provide a link if needed. -
[Solved] Dual Operating Systems
KenB replied to grandadfatboy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Thanks - much appreciated :) It is down to the great team we have here ......not to mention the great members too. If you are installing 2 Operating Systems on one hard drive they will need their own partitions. It is - yes I have linked to a tutorial that talks you through both options click here You can dual boot a 32 bit OS and a 64 bit OS You will need to install SP3 with your XP OS if it is not already there. Your video card suggests it is compatible with XP. It will not, however, be able to make use of DirectX 11 - XP utilises DirectX 9 at best. You may find this free software useful http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/ Give it a go. If it doesn't work out and you want to remove the XP partition this is easily done via Win7. -
Hi again Try running CCleaner from here ( on default settings ) click here No need to buy. DO NOT run the registry cleaner.
-
If it is only You tube I wouldn't mess about with over-clocking. What is your connection speed ? use this ...... click here Wait for "Begin Test" to appear DON'T click on the "Start Now" button.

Hi and welcome to ExTS Please do so - the more information we have the better. Somebody may then be able to assist you further :)

You have already posted this once - there is no need to re-post. I have removed the lnk to G2G. Just let us know what they suggest re. your blue screen and mini-dump files. This thread is closed - please continue with the one in the Win7 forum.

Please look at the OTL section of my previous post - I added it later sorry.

Hi One of our security experts should be along soon to advise you .... but in the mean time please download MBAM from here: click here You want the FREE version. Install it > Update it and run it. Please make sure you put a check next to all that it finds and "Remove Selected" MBAM will produce a log of the scan process. Copy this and paste it here please. ============= Also: Download OTL to your desktop. right click on the link and select 'Save Link/Target As'. if you have problems, try this download link: OTL Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted. When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output. Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check . . http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/new/Otllatest.png Now copy the lines in bold below. DRIVES netsvcs msconfig %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.* %systemroot%\system32\Spool\prtprocs\w32x86\*.dll %systemroot%\*. /mp /s %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles %systemroot%\system32\*.exe /lockedfiles %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav %PROGRAMFILES%\* %USERPROFILE%\..|smtmp;true;true;true /FP HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /rs hklm\software\clients\startmenuinternet|command /64 /rs CREATERESTOREPOINT right click in the Custom Scans/Fixes window (under the blue bar) and choose Paste. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/new%20forum/scan-fix.png . Click the Run Scan button. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/starbuck50/runscan.png Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long. When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them with your next reply. Note: Running the above script with OTL will : turn on your system restore and set a new restore point (XP only) set a new restore point (if system restore is turned on) Vista & Win7. In your next reply, please submit: MBAM scan report Both reports from OTL Whilst we are helping you, please don't run other programs/scans without our knowledge .... it only confuses things. ================= You may need to spread the logs over 2 or 3 posts to fit them in ..........this is OK. One of our security experts will pick this up and advise you further.

Hi and welcome to ExTS Start > right click on "My Computer" > Properties XP should be using Service Pack 3 ( SP3 ) ....... are you ? -
Hi J-L Acer machines with Win8 installed do not have a conventional BIOS ( F2 or DEL key to enter ) I took the following from the Acer site to save writing it out :) ========================= On systems with Windows 8 pre-installed, you can access the UEFI (BIOS) setup screens from the Windows 8 boot menu: Press the Windows (http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/images/icon_Windows8_key.png) key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms. Click Settings. Click Change PC Settings. In PC Settings, select General. Under Advanced startup, click Restart now. The system will restart and show the Windows 8 boot menu. In the boot menu, select Troubleshoot. In the Troubleshoot menu, select Advanced options. In the Advanced options menu, select UEFI Firmware Settings. Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS). The Windows 8 boot menu will also show automatically after Windows 8 fails to start successfully three times.

Please read post #5 by starbuck - you have a serious problem.

Hi Run MBAM again and when it has finished make sure that you select all that it finds and then "Remove Selected" Your log is showing "no action taken" Please re-post the latest log and I will ask one of our security experts to advise you further. Even if MBAM "removes" the problem you will still need further advice. The log is stored in "Logs" which shows in the toolbar.

[Solved] Installing Windows 7 to a new pc.
KenB replied to grandadfatboy's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi It depends on your router as to what you can expect for data transfer speed. If it is wireless g you will get 54 mbs at best If it is wireless n you will get 248 mbs at best. These are theoretical - the reality is that you will get something less. Wireless n routers should have a greater range. Regarding the fan controller - post it in the hardware section :) -
Hi and welcome to ExTS I have moved your thread from the "Gaming" forum to the "Hardware" forum - at the moment this seems to be the most appropriate place. This does not necessarily indicate a virus - more than likely hardware ..........or even software issue. As Nev says - can you provide a bit more detail and any error messages please?
-
Hope you enjoy your holiday - we can continue when you return.

Hi The SATA cables will allow you to connect your HDD internally to a desktop machine. Let us know how you get on :)

Hi This sounds like an OEM disk that companies like Dell use. When it says "......distribution with a new pc " it means exactly that. When you buy the pc from - say Dell - they will give you a copy of the installed OS too. I doubt that this disk that you have bought is a "legal" copy. Where did you get it ? How much did you pay ? ( you can PM me with these details if you wish ) If it was eBay it may be worth contacting the seller again. If it was eBay then you have a chance of getting a full refund if this is, in fact, an illegal sale. Any chance of a photo of the disk and packaging ? Just trying to make a case for you getting your money back :)
