  1. Hi mikey14, can we chalk this one up as "solved" now ?
  2. If it did used to beep - and now doesn't - then it sounds like a motherboard problem. You have tried the RAM and removed the hard drive. There is not much else you can try in this instance. I think this is a job for a local tech. If you decide to take it to a small, local shop ask first how much they charge for an assessment of the problem. Some will give you an opinion for no charge. Also - you need to make sure that what is on the hard drive is recovered. We can advise on this if you wish - as your local tech will usually charge for this service. You have already taken the HDD out so all you need is an adapter to connect it to the USB port of a working computer.
  3. Let us know how you get on after contacting the seller :)
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS Did your laptop used to beep ( once ) on boot-up ? ( many do not ) There is a limit to what we can do with a laptop as they are so difficult to work on. Try taking the RAM modules out. They will be under one of the panels in the base of the machine. The mechanism should hinge forwards to allow you access to them. Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and put just one back. Try booting up now. If no luck swap the RAM over and try booting off the other one. Let us know the results.
  5. Hi wrymn I don't think that this is going to be an easy fix. As your machine is only a few months old you really should contact the seller and explain that you have a problem. You can also inform them that you have been here for assistance and have been advised to return the machine for repair / replacement. I would advise that you take off the hard drive anything that you cannot afford to lose ( photos etc ) as it could be the HDD that is at fault. If these companies need to replace it they will not be too bothered about what is on your original drive. Also - If you store any sensitive information on the hard drive I would make sure that you remove it before returning the machine.
  6. This is a possibility. Get back to me after you have tried your laptop :)
  7. You have a thread running on the same subject here http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/15256-BSOD-Issue?p=99491#post99491 Why start another ?
  8. Hi and welcome to ExTS Is it possible to connect your problem pc directly to the router via the ethernet cable ? Start ......type in......devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the > next to "Network Adapters" What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ?
  9. I would be inclined to get a PCI wireless adapter. The USB versions are not as stable in my opinion. If you have not got one I would advise a LAN adapter too. ( for ethernet connection ) It is always best to have an alternative.
  10. I suggest that you use the product that you have bought. What does it say on the label on the CD that you have bought? Is it a legal disk? ================== First of all check that the CDROM is the first in the Boot Order in the BIOS. Switch on and constantly tap DEL ....... or it could be F2 key. If this doesn't do it - You should see ...."Press ** to enter Setup" when you switch on. This will take you into the BIOS. Move around with the arrow keys. You are looking for "Boot Order" or "Boot Sequence" or simlar. If you need to move the CDROM up the sequence it will tell you on screen how to do this. Save and Exit if you do need to change the order - usually F10 =============== If you have any data that needs to be backed up I would do this before you start the re-install process.
  11. I suggested that you strip the motherboard down to just the 20(4) way connection from the PSU. Did you do this or did you just take the RAM out ?
  12. Hi This is an odd one. When you have no connection ( LAN ) with the cable .......... can any other laptop connect ? ( using the cable ) Also ..... can they connect wireless ?
  13. Hi Does the system connect using the wired ethernet cable ?
  14. Hi This is the relevant section of your IPconfig log for connection via cable: Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ***** Description . . . . . . . . . . . : ****** Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : ****** DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . :***** IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : ***** Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : ***** Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 24 May 2013 17:04:31 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 31 May 2013 17:04:31 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : ***** DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : ***** DHCPv6 IAID . . . . . . . . . . . : ****** DHCPv6 Client DUID. . . . . . . . : ****** DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : ***** NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Enabled ======================= All seems to be OK. What we can try it to disable IPv6 and see if that solves your problem. Take a look here: There is a FixIt "Disable IPv6" furthest left of the options. Try this. click here Then run IPconfig /all again to confirm that it is disabled. Give this a try. Note - this is for Win7
  15. Hi and welcome to ExTS That is an expensive piece of kit !! With XP ? Are you behind a proxy server ?
  16. If you contact the seller and ask if they would accept it as a return - you never know :) Let us know which option you are going to use. Obviously - if you can return the bought version this would be better for you ( Free ) The bought version is probably a little simpler to install - less processes.
  17. Thanks - keep us informed :)
  18. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have split your post from the other thread - you are better with your own. The other poster did not create another thread as suggested - so we will never know the outcome. Can you let us know what you have tried so far please ? If any of the following show up in Programs / Features you should remove them too: Babylon Toolbar. Sweet IM. PcTuto. Soft2PC. Agence-Exclusive. Eorezo. Application Updater.
  19. I would be inclined to strip the m/b down to just the 20(4) way cable from the PSU. ( as per my previous post ) Switch on and watch the case and CPU fans. If they remain stable you can begin putting the cards etc back one at a time. If, however, it still re-starts when completely stripped down it is either the PSU or the m/board that is at fault.
  20. When it comes to spending your hard-earned cash you need the best advice. In this case - I was not the best person :)
  21. Hi and welcome to ExTS Did this system used to give you a POST beep on startup ? If so - does it beep now ? If it doesn't beep ( and should ) I wrote a tutorial that may help: http://s13.zetaboards.com/kenspchelp/topic/6964867/1/#new =========== This could still be a PSU issue. Do you have a spare ( of any wattage ) to try ?
  22. Hi You could try using Google and post a few options for the guys here to express an opinion. What you will find is that members will be reluctant to say "buy this one" - as I, for one, do not like doing this as a member could come back later and complain that it doesn't do what he thought it would or he has found it cheaper having paid for it. Just a thought :)
  23. Not too sure - we would need Starbuck or etavares to confirm. I think that MBAM is designed to run in parallel with any AV - so it should be OK. Try this - it will do no harm and may confirm that Randy is correct.
  24. Hi The reason some do this is - if there is a problem with the Operating System it can be re-installed again without disturbing anything on the other partition(s) With a 1TB HDD it is probably a good idea to divide it into 2 or 3 partitions. You could store your photos and videos on one for instance. There is no need to do this as you install - you can decide later and create them when you are sure you know what you want. We will need to involve one or two of our moderators to answer this for you. I will leave a message for them :)
  25. Hi May I ask why you would want to hide behind a VPN ? Where are you based ? Who is your ISP ? =========== Regarding getting your internet connection back ... Try a system restore to a date just before you installed HMA. ( as suggested by GRANDAD :) ) This is for XP. Start ..Run ....type in .....msconfig ...........Click on "Launch System Restore" Follow the screen prompts. This will restore the system settings to what they were on the selected date. Files / photos / data etc will be fine.
