  1. Hi, I am not aware of a free alternative. I was reluctant to reply as this may discourage somebody else from doing so. I will try to find an alternative for you - but many are like EaseUs, they say it is "free" when it actually isn't.
  2. Glad that you are finally having some success with this. Hope it all works out for you :) My thanks too to joddle for adding to the thread.
  3. I can only find DVP-SR760H ................... I assume that this is the one ? This is the detail I got from the manual .... USB port is front right. You would need to select "USB" from the "Display" button on the remote.
  4. I suggested putting them on a Memory stick - did you try this ? [ assuming .JPG or .PNG or similar extension ] [ see my post #16 ] You would need to select USB on the remote. I don't understand this. Can you clarify please?
  5. I didn't suggest this but it is worth a try. I assume that somebody from CHF did ?
  6. Hi Thanks for the model number The manual [ not a great deal of detail] is here - click here It does tell me that your dad's machine supports JPG [ photo ] format. It also says that the machine has a USB socket. You will have to select the USB from the "Display" on the remote. On a blank memory stick - transfer some photos to the stick and plug into the DVD Player. Do the photos play properly from here ? There is a "Picture Navigation" button on the remote - this may be worth trying. I found another manual that may be of some help - click here
  7. I am suspecting that it could be the DVD player then. Two different pieces of software are unlikely to produce the same result. Can you try to find the Model Number of the DVD Player please ? Can you also try to find out if the DVD Player has a USB socket. The reason I ask about a USB socket is - if it does have one you could try transferring photos to a memory stick and use that instead of a DVD disk.
  8. I don't understand this statement. Have you tried a different piece of software in addition to Ashampoo or are you simply confirming that you selected the CD/DVD option ?
  9. If your dad's new machine has played JPGs [ photos ] before then it must be a setting with Ashampoo. There are not too many options but there is one choice that you have to make when burning your photos .... Did you select "With a CD/DVD player" ? This is the option you need to select.
  10. The USB port -see image below - [ could be just one if you have one at all ] usually on the back or side of the machine They are what you would plug a memory stick into. Are your pictures saved as JPG format ? Right click on a picture then click Properties Look for "Type of File" - this will tell you what format the images are saved in. Please let me know. Some video players will only play JPG images. Did you manage to find he Model Number of the DVD Player ? This would really help. If you have any documentation that came with it you may find the Model Number on the front cover. It could also be on the machine itself - see my previous posts - there is an image showing the location of the Model Number. Have you used this DVD player before to view photographs? Please answer all questions.
  11. That is what I was thinking Jim. Also - if it is intermittent then on startup there may not be enough power to run the motherboard or supply the fans. It is worth trying a different PSU if you can get hold of one. Let me know how things go :)
  12. Hi I assume that you have checked inside the case for dust? This can cause similar problems to what you describe. This could also be a Power Supply issue. Do you have a spare to try?
  13. You haven't answered this question. The model number should be on the device somewhere [ see below] This is a Sony DVP-SR170
  14. What is the model number of the DVD player ? Does it have a USB port ? I assume that you have no problem viewing the pictures if you load them from the disk on to your computer ? Do you ?
  15. Hi, Is this the same problem you were having a while back ? - see link below Could it be that your dad's DVD Player is only good for video formats ? https://extremetechsupport.com/threads/creating-photos-to-play-on-a-dvd-player.15648/#post-109826
  16. Good to hear that you got your problem sorted :)
  17. Hi You have posted here twice before - and on both occasions you stopped replying. I am reluctant to offer any advice if you don't intend responding. https://extremetechsupport.com/threads/computer-dont-send-the-message-just-the-subject-some-times.15609/ https://extremetechsupport.com/threads/need-to-go-back-to-w-10-from-w-7.15641/
  18. The fact that the charging LED isn't lit seems to confirm that there is a problem on the motherboard. This is further evidence that there is a problem on the motherboard. If it was a battery problem then the laptop would boot up when you took the battery out and tried to run off mains alone. It is not a charger problem as you have tried two - one new one. It doesn't seem to be a RAM problem either. I suspect that it is the charging circuit on the motherboard that has died. One last thing that you can try ........... Connect the charger to the laptop and jiggle the connection to see if you get the charging LED to come on. It could be a bad connection at the socket.
  19. Sounds like you have a motherboard problem. :( One more thing to try - - - If you have a monitor connect this to the laptop and see if you get any response when you attempt to boot up. There are a few more suggestions here - click here
  20. Hi again So .... It will not boot up with the battery out. There is no indication that the hard drive is spinning [ assuming it is not a solid state drive ] There is no feint image on screen One more thing to try ......... If you can access the RAM [ sometimes under a panel in the base of the machine ] ...... Remove it and try booting up again. The machine will not boot up without the RAM but you may get some reaction. If you DO get something happening and if you have 2 RAM modules - try them just one at a time.
  21. Hi and welcome to ExTS I assume that the battery was running low on charge ? Try this : Assuming that you can access the battery ...... Remove the charging lead. Remove the battery. Plug in the charger again and try to boot up. Do you get anything at all ? If not ...... Take the laptop into a darkened room Switch on and listen carefully for the hard drive spinning up. Is it ? Look carefully at the screen. Do you see a feint image? If so it is the screen that is the problem. [ Inverter possibly ]
  22. Hi Jimmy Not really "Solved" - perhaps partially explained :) [ not sure why they disappeared ]
  23. Hi Jimmy, I assume that you re-booted the machine? The additional restore points box will not show until there are some. [additional restore points that is ] For some reason your restore points have disappeared and will not be recoverable.
  24. This was my thoughts as I read your post. 1. Check that the CPU fan is spinning properly and at speed. 2. Did you use thermal paste [ a very thin layer ] between the CPU and the heat sink ? NB Too much paste is almost as bad as none at all.
