[ Sprint Hotspot ] You say the phone connects with your laptop. Is this in the same location - using the same router ? If the location is different - does your laptop connect wirelessly using your step-dad's router ?

    Hi, I have contacted The Aston Charity and it seems that they ceased to function after March 12th The lady I contacted informed me that the broadband scheme was extended for 6 months - taking it into September. You should still have a connection - according to her - unless you stopped the payments. ( This isn't our business ) OK. Let's see if we can help. You are using Sky broadband - is this right ? How are you trying to connect the desktop to the router ( wired or wireless ? ) Which Operating System is on the machine ( Win7 / Vista ) ? Presumably you are using a computer on the home connection now and it is OK ?

    Hi The drivers for your machine are here: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/ca/en/cadhs1/Product/dimension-4700 You need to load them from the site not transfer a folder from the old HDD.

    Hi again Have you tried switching the router off then back on again ? This will renew the ip Address - this may be the cause of the problem ...........but it doesn't explain why wireless is causing it. The manual for the router is here: ( may need it later ) click here EDIT: Forgot to say ....leave router off for 10 mins to allow ISP to allocate the old IP Address elsewhere.

    Hi and welcome to ExTS Is your friend using your router ? If he/she isn't then this is a very strange problem. What is the make and model number of your router ? Do you mean connected to the router via cable or connected wirelessly ? A bit more information would help :)

    Thinking again .............could you be talking about remote access ? Being able to control one computer from another even if you are in a different location.

    Hi again I am getting a fuller picture now. Was the machine kept at home and not in school ? Did the Aston scheme set the machine up or was it the school ? Did any of your kid's friends get one - just thinking that they may be able to remember what changes they made.

    They don't go too often - but it could be. You may have more than one - if changing the first doesn't solve it try swapping them one at a time.

    Hi You understand - we have to be very careful providing help here ..........we have to make judgements based on what is written. for instance: You wrote in your first post... you then wrote.... My kid .....implies you are the parent I couldn't ......facebook ........implies you are the student at the school. You also say it is a desktop. How can you carry a desktop to school and back ? I know it is frustrating for you ..........but we have to be careful. I still think that contacting the school direct would solve this. Do you want me to do it ? If so let me have the number.

    Let us know what they say. I did suggest earlier that this would not be an easy fix.

    You will need to reinstall the OS. If you have data on the other drive it may be possible to access it with a HDD to USB adapter.

    Hi, I taught in schools for over 30 years in the Birmingham area of UK. ( Now retired to Wirral ) Let me have the name and phone number of the school and I will see about contacting them regarding this scheme where pupils are given PCs to keep for their own use. They MUST still have an IT technician / manager on site ( my school has 3 ). They will be able to let us know how they set up each machine. I may know somebody who works there :)

    As this is a new PC it needs to be returned and a replacement provided. A clicking hard drive is rare with a new system - but not unheard of. [The drive is dead or dying] Being the cynic that I am - is your friend SURE that this system is new? Did it come boxed? Does he have a receipt from the store/shop ?

    Hi and welcome to ExTS This could prove to be awkward as we are unaware of what they have done. I assume that you do have an ISP - who are they ? [this would be a monthly subscription] How are you trying to set up the laptop ? (assuming it is a laptop ) broadband via a router ? wired ? wireless ? or dialup ? [this is free to connect but you pay for the length of time you use it]
