  1. Hi Zoƫ Don't use glue. The connection needs to conduct electricity and glue is not the best conductor. Does that round connection fit on the spade connection that is at the end of the wire shown ? If so - you could try using a pair of pliers to squash it a little to make it tighter ( be careful here ) or ...... you could use a little kitchen ( aluminium ) foil between the joint so that the joint is tighter. Is this a possibility ?
  2. Assume you have internet ? Try this link - I think this is what johhny-marshal is referring to http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html Click the "Search Now" to auto-scan
  3. Hi and welcome to ExTS This is a strange one !! Are you sure that the new CDs are "New" and not copies ? Start > type in .......devmgmt.msc ...ENTER Are there any yellow exclamation marks next to DVD CDROM ( click the + ) Are you also sure that it is some CDs ............. There are 2 lasers in the drive. One for CDs and the other for DVDs One of these can get damaged and prevent one specific disk type from being read.
  4. You may be lucky. Some machines need their resolution settings and refresh rates set to the tv settings. Not heard of the series of LEDs on Asus boards before - but that means nothing .......... it is a distinct possibility. Synapse ( one of our mods ) may be able to answer this with more conviction :) Let us know how you get on with pulling the RAM and the HDMI connection to TV
  5. Hi and welcome to ExTS Take a look here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html Various prices - depends what you want to spend
  6. Hi Nick Pull the RAM modules and then switch on. Let me know if you have anything on the monitor. If you have no HDMI > VGA adapter you will need to use the Video Card.
  7. Hi Ian and welcome to ExTS Start > Run .....type in ......devmgmt.msc ..........ENTER Click the + next to "Network Adapters" 1. What is listed ? 2. Are there any yellow exclamation marks / red Xs ? 3. If you connect with an ethernet cable ........can you get internet access ? 4. Are you using a wireless adapter with the desktop ......connected via USB port ?
  8. Hi Nick If this is Win7 - do you have the original installation disk ? You should still get visual on the monitor. Does the motherboard have an on-board connection to connect the monitor to? If so - remove the video card and try the on-board. I will need to check if the RAM is compatible - but for the time being ..........take it out and see what happens when you try to boot up.
  9. Hi Nick and welcome to ExTS You say you have a new motherboard ..... If you kept the old HDD have you used the original OS that was on the drive ? If so - it will be unlikely to boot up. Is this the case ?
  10. Hi and welcome to FPCH Most routers have a built-in modem so you may not need your old one. As BeeCeeBee suggests - let us know the make and model number of the router and we can take it from there :)
  11. Hi - I managed to locate a connection :) ( don't know how long for ) This is looking like a motherboard problem. Take a look here: http://kenspchelp.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=172 Follow the tutorial and strip the motherboard down to basics. If you get no beeps then - it is a m/board problem as you have already swapped PSUs. We can explain how to get data off your hard drive if it comes to that :)
  12. Hi Tino I have located a connection :) I have added the picture to your last post. All you do is copy the IMG Code from the Photobucket image and paste it into your post. I cannot read what it says in the box - but I assume that it is Login Name ( or similar ) and Password. Try Admin for both / or try Admin for login and Password for password / or Admin for login and nothing in the password box. Take a look on the base and back of the router. It may tell you here what the login details are.
  13. Those temperatures are fine. I am now thinking it could be PSU. Do you have one that you could exchange ? (it doesn't have to be the same wattage) Take a look at the motherboard capacitors. Do any have domed tops or leaking ? I am away for a few weeks so somebody else should pick this up :)
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS We are a diverse bunch with a wide range of skills. You should pick up a lot of useful info here.
  15. I will leave a message for them to take a look.
  16. OK - we have discounted the RAM. ============ Take a close look at the capacitors on your motherboard. Are any of them domed or leaking ? If so - you have a motherboard problem. http://www.auroracomputer.ca/images/bad_cap.jpg My next suggestion would be to try your wife's PSU on your machine. If you need any advice on doing this just shout. I am away from tomorrow.
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS The specs for your m/board are here: click here .. How do you come to this conclusion ? The PSU is linked to the case - not the m/board. If it is a standard case then any standard PSU will fit. The Wattage is governed by what you have on the system. It should be on a sticker on the old PSU. You can use a greater wattage with no harmful effects.
  18. Off to a wedding then to France for a few weeks :)
  19. Does this happen at the same point each time ? Does the system run OK with all other applications ?
  20. Hi and welcome to Fpch Good to hear that you seem to have solved your own problem. :) If you would like one of our security experts to check over your system ( just in case ) then post the MBAM log and they will take it from there.
  21. It is rare that 2 RAM modules develop a fault at the same time - but it is possible. Take a module from you wife's system and try it in yours by itself. If you get the same problem then it is not the RAM. Does your wife's computer beep once ( short beep ) when switched on ?
  22. The GTX is the superior card. see here There are 3 GTS options ( use the down arrow at "Compare any two graphics cards )
  23. Hi If you are getting a message on the monitor I would assume that this is OK - but try your monitor on your wife's machine to confirm. Does this system have a video card ? You may need to take the side panel off to check. This is where the monitor cable is attached at the back of the machine. It is an additional card to the motherboard. I am hoping you do and there is another on-board connection you can try. If there is - take the card out and try the on-board video connection. ====================== You took the RAM out earlier - take one out and leave the other in. Try booting. If no luck .....switch off .....swap the installed RAM for the other module and try again. ================== I am away for a few weeks - so hopefully synapse ( moderator ) will pick this up for you.
  24. Thanks for the feedback. That is certainly one way of making sure it stays asleep :)
  25. I'm away for the next month Ray - so will pass this to Nev :)
