Hi and welcome to ExTS Try a system restore to just before you used CCleaner. Start > type in ....system restore ...........ENTER Do not use the Windows selection but pick your own date. There is an option to see dates prior to the most recent 5 Your files and data will be fine.

You are not giving me much to analyse here. "It loaded up" ............ I suggested a few options ..........Video Card / Ram / CMOS battery What have you tried ? What worked to get the system to "load up" ? We need detail if we are to make any progress.

eusetep Post the model number of your Toshiba laptop. It may be possible to locate a printable version of the manual. It is odd, to say the least, that Toshiba should have it as "Read Only".

If you are serious about gaming then integrated graphics is going to fall way short of your requirements.

This is your Video Card if I am not mistaken. Take the card out and try booting the machine. ( obviously you will have no graphics ) If it doesn't boot take the RAM out too. If it still doesn't boot take the CMOS battery out for 30 seconds then replace it. ( + on top ) Try again.

Hi Kristof and welcome to ExTS Have you tried booting off a Ubuntu ( Linux ) disk to see if you can access your data? click here Burn it to a CD Make sure that the CDROM is first boot device in the BIOS DO NOT install it. You want to run the oS from the CD. If you boot up with the problem drive connected you may be able to access it and retrieve your data using this method.

Hi Ray I cannot assist further with AVG as I have no way of verifying any suggestions. I know you are reluctant to change - but I really would urge you to consider swapping for MS Essentials. This would either solve your problem or we could discount the AV as the cause.

Try this with the mshtml.dll Start > Run ....type in ...... regsvr32 /u mshtml.dll ( space before and after /u ) This un-registers the dll Then regsvr32 mshtml.dll ( space after 32 )

There is no substitute for using a multi-meter or voltmeter but there is nothing there that is a cause for concern. :) The 5v Standby voltage seems to be down. This in itself is not a problem because this is not linked with the USB sockets at all. It is a constant supply voltage to the motherboard which allows wake from sleep mode etc.

We are not being obstructive here - we are just making sure that both opinions are represented. People do use registry cleaners but they do so at their own risk.

Hi Pete, Try the following: ( This is for XP ) Quit all programs that are running. Click Start, and then click Run. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK. (space after 32 ) When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK. Test the connection again. If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2, 3 & 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below): [You can copy and paste if you wish] Shdocvw.dll Actxprxy.dll Oleaut32.dll Mshtml.dll Browseui.dll Shell32.dll

The 3 I suggested are all free. I and Starbuck use MS Essentials. If you install MS Essentials instead of AVG you will answer this question. ================= If you want to continue with AVG ( there is a limit to how far I can help as I don't have this installed ) Switch off the boot up again. Make a note of the time. Once booted go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\avg2012\scanlogs If there is a log with the date and time of recent booting it is definitely AVG scanning on boot. There will be a setting to change this.

The swap is relatively simple. If you want to go down this route I can provide the steps :)

Hi Ray, If I were you I would ditch AVG and install MS Essentials. AVG is not rated too highly by our security experts. They tend to favour Avira / Avast / MS Essentials ( not in that order :) )

Wizard, Many thanks for this post. I feel, however, that I should point out to members / guests the following: 1. You should only ever run 1 AntiVirus program on your system otherwise they will conflict and ultimately slow your system down. 2. Our security experts do not recommend AVG as the AV of choice anymore. Avast; Avira and MS Essentials are all OK. 3. Spybot is a little dated. MBAM is the program that is recommended on these forums. You can, if you wish, have more than one Anti-Malware program on your system. 4. CCleaner is a useful cleaning tool. We NEVER recommend using Registry Cleaners so if you do decide to use it leave out the Registry Scan and use the default settings. 5. We would NEVER recommend Ausilogics or any other registry cleaner. The registry is the heart of your system and unless you know what you are doing, important keys could be removed and in the worst case scenario could render your system inoperative.

If you upgrade your m/board you will almost certainly need to re-install the O/S. If your O/S is an OEM version then you will need to buy a new one. If you are looking at a new Video Card too then you will probably need to upgrade the PSU. A new m/b will support DDR3 so new RAM needed. You are building a new system - not upgrading :)

Is Windows Live Toolbar there? It may be in Add / Remove ..............is it here ? If you are running IE6 it probably will not show in Add/Remove as it is integrated into the System Files. Updates do show.
